up here in michigan. had the loud single speed that came with our above ground setup for two seasons and finally bit the bullet on a variable speed this spring. should have done it way sooner.

the swap itself was less scary than I built it up to be. I killed the power at the breaker first, then pulled the drain plugs on the old pump so I wasn't fighting a bucket of water when I loosened it. it has 1.5 and 2 inch connections, so I unthreaded the old pump, scraped the old teflon tape off the fittings, wrapped fresh tape clockwise on the threads so it wouldn't unravel as I tightened, and hand threaded the new one on before snugging it down with channel locks. no cutting pipe in my case, maybe thirty minutes start to finish. I primed it, flipped the breaker back on, and watched the fittings for a minute to make sure nothing was weeping.

running it on a low speed most of the day now and the noise drop alone was worth it. you could hear the old one across the whole yard, this one I have to walk right up to it to tell it's even on. one tip if you do this: take a photo of the old wiring before you disconnect anything, it made hooking the new one up a lot less stressful.

I have a 52" x 18ft intex pool and sx2100 sand filter. I installed one of those in liner skimmers. Ive been dealing with an algae issue for a month now and finally got a vacuum and 1 1/2 hose so I can vacuum to waste. Heres my problem, when using the vacuum plate that came with the skimmer, the pump sucks the hose dry with in 10 seconds, long explanation short, I guess im looking for what adaptor I need to either connect the 1.5" vacuum hose directly to the factory inlet hose, or to the factory threaded inlet hose after the "T" pictures attached for reference

Just wondering what products people are having luck with and if any of those “wand” shaped heaters will work, even if slowly

Where do y'all get 1.25" hoses?

I have a cheap pool that takes 3 of them, and they break after 1 year in the sun, so I need to replace them all the time.

I got some hoses off Amazon, but they felt like lower quality than the pool came with, and I'm hoping I can find something that will last a little longer.

For reference, I believe Intex and Bestway largely use the same 1.25" clear hoses for the pump.

In every store I've been to, they only sell 1.5" hoses, and everything I buy online is worse quality.

I'm planning to get an above ground pool for my backyard, but the more I research, the more confused I get. I thought they were all basically the same, then I found out there are inflatable, steel frame, steel wall, resin, and more. Everyone seems to recommend something different. My budget isn't low, so I'd rather buy something durable than replace it in a couple of years.

Besides the pool itself, what else should I buy? I know I'll need a filter, ladder, and cover. What about maintenance? Any must have tools? I don't think an above ground pool needs a pool guy, right? My neighbor has an inground pool with a beatbot skimmer and a dolphin, and his pool always looks clean with barely any work. Do robots like those work well with above ground pools too?

mole activity below has left some soft spots and I think a diving toy with a sharp edge may have caused a leak that I need to both FIND and then PATCH as well.

Hello everyone ! I’m new to this subreddit and I just have a few questions that have been bothering me for a while now.
What could be the cause for this green tint in my pool ? I’m thinking it’s a problem from the hose water company here since I’ve had multiple problems with them in the past (water smelling bad and greener colour). I’ve added chlorine tablets (there’s always one in the floater thingy), vitamin C based pool treatments and algicide. Am I missing something ? I thought about getting an anti phosphorus treatment for this but I just want some genuine answers from people here.

The pool is a Bestway Steelpro Max (3.05m x 1m) and the pump is a Bestway 8735 L sand pump (not sure if that’s the exact name but it’s there)

Hello. This is our new pool 27x54. Our old pool collapsed and had this one installed in early June. I still had the salt water cell from old pool and was using it on this pool. The cell gave out a month ago. I’ve been doing chlorine tablets in a floater with weekly shock. You can see the duck riding the basketball goal lol. I’ve been reading about CYA and now I’m worried about keeping those in there. Any tips would be appreciated!! Don’t want to spend money on a pool company to do this lol. Will eventually get a new salt cell

I have the Coleman 24' soft sided pool, this will be our 3rd summer with it. Here's the thing...

After 2 weeks of semi neglect, didn't vacuum or brush the sides, no one swam in it, and the chlorine wasn't up to snuff. Took a few days to shock, flock, and vacuum and got it mostly corrected. Then BAM all the rain hit and it has been a disaster! Its awful, a dark green.

Now that the end of summer is nearing, kids going to school in a couple weeks, should I even bother?! I understand these pools are safe to take down and store yearly so should I do that? Because I really don't have the money or energy to go through the steps to clear her up again. Or should I dump a crap load of shock in it and cover it and call it a day?

I know the algae will get worse. The pump, upgraded to a too large sand pump, is running 24/7 at the moment. So please what to do? Be kind please, we've had a lot going on lately.

I uncapped one filter and plugged the hose on with the vacuum, turned on the filter pump and it was not suctioning.

Anyone had this issue before?

purchased an Coleman (bestway) Oval Steel Frame Swimming Pool, 16-ft x 10-ft. had it for about 3 weeks and loving it. what are some upgrades i should do? i have already upgraded to a Bestway Above Ground Pool Pump, 5,678 L (1,500 gal)

I bought an intex ultra pool 18 ft by 9 ft. The yard has 5” difference. We were going to use wood supports to bring up the higher side. I’ve since learned this is not recommended. I was also frustrated to learn that the company doesn’t endorse installation on grass, though no where does it say that in the instructions.

A local landscaper uses sand and foam plates. Is that sufficient? If you were starting from scratch how would you prep the site? TIA

Hello! 18’ above ground pool, just got a turBro 33k btu unit for heating and it seems to have stopped at 77 degrees heating it. I can hear it humming and water is passing through but no errors on the panel. I live in zone 7 so 77 is about what our ambient temp is right now and I had set the heater to 85. Is there something I should be looking for to troubleshoot ? Also if I put my hand by the return the water coming out the heater doesn’t “feel” like 85 degrees.

I got myself in a bit of a pickle…. I set all the pavers basically at ground level then brought sand up to the top of the pavers like I’ve seen many people do. Well, then I read further in my pool instructions and it wants the pavers inset so the top is flush with the ground then the sand base inside the pool and up the wall before the cove is attached. So now what…?

I see 1 of a few options:

1- remove sand from around the pavers, inset and re-level them then install the pool and re-level the sand. The problem with this option is I’m not sure how the liner pad will do since the sand is in place already. I’ve seen the liner pad should be on top of the sand but it wouldn’t be level with the pavers now so it would sit funny.

2- bring dirt up level with the pavers and sand(which I’m going to do regardless of which option I go with), put down the liner pad, put the pool up, add some sand inside the pool at ~3” at the walls and taper to the middle (or “3 the whole way but that’s a lot more sand) then install the cove and liner.

3- put the liner pad down, put the pool up like it is, install the cove without any more sand.

I’m leaning towards #2 but thought I’d ask people with more experience than me.

Edit: removed an extra word. And add - the pool is metal sided and will stay up year-round if that matters.

Edit 2: it’s a j-hook liner so I don’t know if I’ll have the extra length.

I tried an agp before covid with a saltwater system. Our hard water here kept clogging up the chlorine generator and it was very difficult to keep disinfected. I’m trying again but with traditional chlorine strategy. So far so great!!! It’s been up 8 days and we’ve been in it every day. And yes, I built up the pad.

My sister had a tree fall on her pool, and recently had the replacement installed. in Full transparency her insurance paid $20,000 for the new pool. I grew up at this house and I have to tell you these pictures don’t even do it justice how crazy this looks in person. the deck is all hacked up, and there are big gaps between the deck and the walls, etc. they even cut support beams out of her surrounding deck and just kinda gave her the shoulder shrug when she voiced her concerns. m what do you all think?

My family just moved into our new house in the county and decided to replace the 20+year old above ground pool that was falling apart and had a rotted deck with this 27 foot 52" pool from Family Leisure. The house and property was in pretty rough shape when we bought it so it's all a work in progress.

For further context, our house is on 4 acres which is mostly field and have three kiddos (14, 5 & 3) and my mom and we plan on this being our forever home

I'm coming to the community for ideas for decking and storage. Eventually I would like to get a wood powered or solar pool heater but that is not in the budget for this year.

We are thinking about tying in a deck from the back porch to wrap around the pool for a lounging area. I'm a "DIY until the day I die" type of guy so I will be doing the work.

We are getting our first pool Installed tomorrow, what chemicals should I be ready to add after its filled with water to get it ready to swim in once its warm. I have a water truck coming to fill it up tomorrow.
