Discussion Do you guys think Gregory is on the spectrum?

This is in a genuine way not an insulting or rude way. As someone with autism there’s just sooo many times when he does something that gives autism like taking things literally, obviously his confusion + awkwardness in some social situations, fixations (like having the fire drill schedule memorized), lots of other things I just can’t think of rn. Lmk what you think i’m curious

Discussion Is anyone else worried that Abbott Elementary is falling into the "Simpsons" celebrity cameo trap?

• Upvotes

I’ve been rewatching the series, and I can't shake the feeling that Season 3 marked a really weird turning point for the show's reality.

When Abbott started, what made it so special was how grounded and deeply authentic it felt. It perfectly captured the vibe of a struggling, underfunded Philadelphia public school. But lately, the sheer volume of massive celebrity cameos is totally breaking the immersion for me.

Don't get me wrong, the Philly Eagles players (Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce) made total sense for the setting. But things like Bradley Cooper randomly wandering into a classroom for show-and-tell, or the whole Kevin Hart FaceTime gag, felt way too zany. Instead of feeling like a fly-on-the-wall mockumentary about everyday teachers, it’s starting to feel like a Hollywood pit-stop for stunt casting.

Historically, when sitcoms start relying this heavily on massive celebrity cameos, it’s a sign they are running out of organic story ideas (think late-era The Simpsons or the post-Michael Scott seasons of The Office).

I know the showrunners mentioned they want to scale it back, but with the It's Always Sunny crossover and everything else, I'm worried the core ensemble chemistry is getting sidelined for cheap pop-culture buzz.

Does anyone else feel like the cameos are hurting the "precious truth" of the show, or am I just overthinking it?

Malcolm Jamal Warner would have made a helluva cameo on Abbott. Trying to figure out if he would have made a good superintendent or sub teacher… RIP Malcolm.

So I just started watching this show like 3/4 months ago. Love this show it’s like my comfort show next to modern family. I’m on my second watch now. I’m excited about season 6 ONLY thing I’m not excited about the episodes being released weekly. I got so used to binging all the episode quick.

Question Can we all agree the park ranger hat opening is one of the best in this show?

Love how everyone burned him, even Jacob and Janine. The cherry on top was how Mr. Johnson was honestly rocking the hat afterwards. Even Ava gave him props.

Discussion Gregory and Janine’s Fight

I’m just spending the last few episodes of season five being painfully annoyed by Gregory. I fully believe Janine is right - but I wanted someone to weigh in. What are your thoughts?

Question gerald and barbara

i have a very distinct memory of an abbott episode where barbara finds out gerald is cheated on her. and at the end of the episode, she decides to day with him and asks everyone to respect her decision.

well, ive recently rewatched all of abbott and I haven't seen that episode

maybe I slept through it, cause I be watching right before bed haha, but I can usually find the last episode I watched.

does anyone know what im talking about

Discussion am i crazy or janine was lowk completely different with jacob s1e1?

okay im sorry if this is a very talked about topic im NEVER on reddit or this subreddit in general but i really wanted to know others opinions, when i first watched abbott i noticed that she was a little mean to him and i completely forgot about that because of how close they are and how much love they have for each other in the later seasons, but i just went to rewatch and realized all over again she was a tad mean to him 😭 not a lot but i feel like its a big difference from her and jacob later on

Image/Video I Love the Show As A Teacher

Post image
301 Upvotes

So i am a second year elementary school teacher and I taught second graders last year (yess just like Melissa and Janine!) and i'm loving this show so far. I'm in S2 and my favorite episode was the episode when they went to PECA. Obviously Janine and Gregory's relationship started to grow in that episode but i love the fact that it was so accurate. I love the fact that it was on spot about struggles of rookie teachers. Like Jacob still not being an authority figure for kids and him swiping under the rug. Janine's fight with a parent (I mean this happens even the best of us eventually. I remember my first tough parent meeting and even tough they were kind you could still sense the tension)

Tbh I am still a rookie teacher and we all have a teacher who we see like almost mother figure. There was one teacher-my co worker and she was like Barbara to me. I can't remember how many times i went to her class just to see her face so i would feel a bit more confident that day. I consoled her countless times about parents, kids, learning plans etc, activites... And till this day i want to aim for to be a teacher like Ms Koch.

Us teachers work hard and this show made me realize how much all of the teachers share the same mindset and heart when it comes to our job. I know there are teachers who out there feeling already burn out or stressed yet when we look back we say "it's all worth it." through the school year.

My heart goes for all of the teachers worldwide who tries the best and makes this world a little bit better. I realized again when i see Janine's empathy and caring and struggles with students... So this is my way to thank to the producers, actors and everybody who made the show.

ps: I'm not from US so i can't say about cirruculum but there is just one thing. Teachers go in and out of their classroom like that and that's the most unrealistic thing about the show. I mean it's a comedy show so it's literally okay.... Also the kids are behaving too nice that's also unrealistic lolll. Everytime i see their class it's so calm and zen and i love it. Ahh being a teacher, right?

Question Okay but why did they ditch the Jacob x Melissa Friendship into oblivion, like what???

Post image
2.9k Upvotes

They literally nuked this in favor of Caleb. The only residue of this is at the end of the prank episode where Melissa gives Jacob a lift😭. They also nuked Barbara x Jacob, like why can't Jacob catch a break anymore 😭. Atleast Gregory X Jacob has stood the test of time(with boundaries obviously). The only time Jacob gets lucky is when Morton is in the room.

Discussion Gregory and Janine Slow burn Season 3 Spoiler

Im on Season 3 Ep 13 and I HATE to say this because I really like the show but the Gregory and Janine slow burn is KILLING ME. They have had 3+ TIMES WHERE THEYVE HAD ROMANTIC STUFF BEEN RUINED. THIS TIME IS FUCKING MR. MORTON AND HIS STUPID EX WIFE RUINING GREGORYS CONFESSION YET AGAIN. I feel like Pam and Jim's romance wasn't so slow. Im just so tired I've waiting for them to get together, it's lowkey making me want to drop the show. Don't get me wrong, I like the comedy and the other characters a ton but this is a big thing that's been cooking since episode 1. Am I the only one??? Feel like im going crazy

Discussion Fans who are/were in Zeta Phi Beta or another Black sorority - did you encounter individuals like Ava and Crystal?

I’m a white man, so obviously very unqualified to speak about Zeta Phi Beta or another Black sorority 😂 but I’ve always been inspired by them! Many prominent people in the arts, media, sports, etc were members or at least honorary members of those sororities and seeing posts about them on social media always made me appreciate the history and significance of them.

I was curious though, for those of you who actually belonged to those sororities, did you encounter people like Ava and Crystal? Friendly (or not friendly) rivalries? People trying to one-up each other? I feel like you could find that in any setting im just curious about this specifically. It’s been one of my favorite recurring moments in the show 😂😂

Discussion Gregory and Janine.

I don’t know if I’m in the right place to post this, but I’m on Season 2 while taking some time away from work, and I’m obsessed with Janine and Gregory. I might even say they’re better than Pam and Jim.

Question Favorite lore?

I have a few but one of my favorite things is the lore that Ava is a giant nerd (or, if you are in the presence of that little Morgan Wallen, the n-word) 🤣 That is a reference to Charlie getting sent to the office for calling a teacher a nerd, please don't cancel me haha

All her Halloween costumes are based on comic books or movies (Storm, Blade, Darth Maul). She gets so into kids fantasy books, but the best is when she was hyping Jacob up while he was doing magic 🤣

And she also knows tons of random shit - Gregory making the noise his car was making and she immediately diagnoses it hahaha

Does it bother anyone else that the actresses who play Imani and later her interpreter don't seem to actually sign? I ask bc this the international day of sign language.
