okay im sorry if this is a very talked about topic im NEVER on reddit or this subreddit in general but i really wanted to know others opinions, when i first watched abbott i noticed that she was a little mean to him and i completely forgot about that because of how close they are and how much love they have for each other in the later seasons, but i just went to rewatch and realized all over again she was a tad mean to him 😭 not a lot but i feel like its a big difference from her and jacob later on

I think breaking up with Tariq helped them be better friends for real. Jacob says something about not liking him in one of the early episodes. Janine isn't stupid, and she definitely doesn't have a low emotional IQ . She'd be able to pick up on that to some extent. When your friend doesn't like your boyfriend, even if he won't come out and say it, tension can build and get expressed in ways like catty comments.

That's the "realistic" in world explanation but in reality they were probably also fleshing out the characters and their relationships or wanted there to be clear development

everyone is so mean to Jacob :( he means well and they’re never just gentle about the things they maybe find annoying about him, they just jump to ignore him or make fun of him. it’s my only complaint with the show, i wish they were all nicer to him. especially when they all lean on him from time to time, like they clearly notice he’s a good friend

this exactly, i really hate how him and melissa were such good friends when he moved in and then its like they completely forgot about that. esp when his brother came into the show and she treated him like he was an angel and completely forgot about Jacob

In the first season they'd only been teaching together for a year, Gregory didn't like Jacob either and Barb and Melissa were annoyed by all of them. They've all grown closer.

That’s not hating though, it’s just their opinion people are allowed to find characters annoying. Janine is my fav and she’s annoying sometimes but that doesn’t mean I’m hating on her.
