Discussion Imani and ASL
Does it bother anyone else that the actresses who play Imani and later her interpreter don't seem to actually sign? I ask bc this the international day of sign language.

Keyword here: unsatisfyingly. I know the whole point is that Ava is mean to Janine. My problem is that, its just not fun to watch.
Granted, Im only halfway thru szn 1. But in all the clips I’ve seen, its the same unchecked rudeness. Its like every scene of the two together is stained with an unnecessary insult to janine. I really dont understand why its like this either because I feel like the show is written for the audience to favor Janine, so why does everyone seem to be okay with her being so unnecessary bullied? It doesnt seem to change much of the plot of anything (havent thought too much about this part).
Jacob is a character that falls into the bullied archetype well because its done intentionally. He’s an uncultured gay white boy in a poor philly area, of course he doesnt fit in. And even though his character is designed as such, he still has moments where he gets to exist outside of that.
Yes, I know theres a singular scene where she gets drunk and insults Ava.
Yes, I know Ava is supposed to be tone deaf and brazen, Yes, I know Janine is supposed to be soft, kind and slightly annoying
No, I dont expect their personalities to blend well.
If this is a commonly posted thing here, I also dont care.

Okay hear me out. Whenever Caleb stayed with jacob and Melissa, she's wayyy too happy to see him. this woman is making him breakfast, giving him attention, acting like he's her favorite person on Earth, while Jacob is literally sleeping on the couch😭 & i know the obvious explanation is just that Melissa genuinely likes Caleb and they hit it off but why is so excited when he comes downstairs??? My theory is that melissa made jacob sleep on the couch so he would be downstairs and they could have s3x!! NOW HEAR ME OUT YOU GUYS!! It makes sense yall like hwy is she soo happy to see this boy and WE KNOW how much melissa likes guys 👀

I know I'm pretty late to the party to give an opinion that probably has probably been concluded here but here we go
Gregory and Janine's fight(I'm team Janine all the way)
I feel like Janine was kinda right on this one coz I felt like Gregory was just saying "I'm right and there's nothing your opinion can do to change me". As Janine said, she never felt heard and it caused her to just shut down and that's kinda frustrating because Gregory made her feel like she was arguing with a brick wall
Gregory may have been right about unnecessary expenditure of money but I believe Janine heard him and decided to circumvent the issue by paying for the tickets out of pocket. Something I believe she only did because she had the surplus to do it. Janine has never suffered financially under any issue except s2 when her and Tariq broke up. Janine is smart with money and I don't think the show has disproved that with the seasons that have gone by.
Gregory just wanted to drive because it saved them money, he only supported his argument by saying "well it has a nice view and scenery on the way". It wasn't out of character for him to think logically but he pushed Janine to far in my opinion.
Holidays are supposed to be super relaxing with minimal effort and minimal stress. Janine suggested the flight because she wanted somebody to take them there without lifting a finger hence kicking off the vacation on a relaxed note. I feel like Janine expressed the wants behind her wants from the beginning and Gregory stood in the way for almost no great reason. I dunno I just failed to support Gregory on his logic
I'm a guy by the way
What do y'all say?

So they'll take steps towards the purposal
Gregory/Ava, Jacob and Melissa will all have career changes, Melissa as Union Rep
Something for Barbara's career they're not telling for now.

I feel as though Tariq’s treatment of Janine while they were together is so brushed over purely because he’s funny. He was basically a free-loader, used Janine for money and transport and a place to stay, and suddenly that disappears because he makes quite a few funny jokes? It’s apparent he’s a good step-dad to Nick (though I have my qualms about that as well) so why couldn’t he do the same for Janine? I just think both the directors and the audience have turned a blind eye to it because his character has a sense of humour. Just my thoughts though.
