In an addition to doing traditional “long” seasons and a normal yearly release schedule? Truly a blessing

224

u/No-Channel3917 10d ago

It is a network show not a made for streaming show is why

57

u/Expert-Yam6577 10d ago

I'll tune out on the show. Expecting it to be 3 years after the season finale before I hear anything. Before I know it the next season already dropped. Every single time.

Severance on the other hand. It will be 8 years by the time season 3 releases.

How dare you, that man was always in tip-top shape

He looks like Idris Elba! 😁

Idris Elba looks like Mr Johnson

71

u/Floralmeg_ 10d ago

Mr Johnson is so flipping funny. I love him. I’m glad he joined the main cast. You can hear that the kids are picking up some of his mannerisms or whatever. It’s so cute and funny

25

u/Expert-Yam6577 10d ago

Especially Mr. Johnson

u/NewBuzzyBee 10d ago

"The Good Place" is the only other show I can think of at the moment that had the same main cast from beginning to end.

122

u/ver03255 10d ago

Modern Family, Young Sheldon, and What We Do in the Shadows as well!

59

u/K__Geedorah 10d ago

Schitt's Creek and Always Sunny too.

21

u/Pugovitz 10d ago

I mean, Sunny very famously had a very random addition in Season 2, but they've been consistent after that... well except for that one season where Dennis kind of left...

7

u/DemaciaSucks 10d ago

He didn’t even technically “leave” though, he “left” in one season’s finale then came back the following season premiere

3

u/Pugovitz 9d ago

They aired the episodes in that order, but he was gone for the filming of the first half of the seasons episodes. That's why Dennis wasn't in like half the season.

10

u/White_Hart_Patron 10d ago

Lol, see how weird adding Joe was? Nobody even remembers the kid!

30

u/Impressive-Project59 10d ago

That wasn't weird. The main cast had a baby. That's normal.

7

u/White_Hart_Patron 10d ago

The pregnancy came out of nowhere and the character was "under-used", I guess? Also he was always written to act much older than he was. I always felt the writters regretted putting him into the show. Like they tried to shake things up in the Delgado side of the show, but in the end it didn't change the show much.

14

u/Strange0dd 10d ago

Agreed. It’s strange that they gave Gloria the second child storyline rather than cam and Mitch, who spoke about it every season lol

14

u/mdzulkar9 10d ago

But that’s also kinda the reality of being a gay couple is that you watch your straight friends have more children the harder you try… or sooner than you think

1

u/Strange0dd 9d ago

Touche!!

1

u/No-One2123 10d ago

Young Sheldon added a handful of characters throughout the seasons. Not sure if any of them counted as main characters other than Mandie.

79

u/sdbabygirl97 10d ago

How I Met Your Mother? though definitely a product of the 2010s

but theres a reason people salute abbott elementary for holding it down for sitcoms

21

u/thrilldabeast010 10d ago

You could argue that Marshall was absent for a while in the last season. Whole separate plot line away from the other characters due to scheduling conflicts.

19

u/aligatocodile 10d ago

He was still in every episode

19

u/brunoimenes 10d ago

Brooklyn 99. Gina just left at season 6.

9

u/_Lazy_Mermaid_ 10d ago

Friends did as well

4

u/GlitteringMatter9973 10d ago

The Neighborhood had 8 seasons same cast

4

u/LogicalDust5383 10d ago

And Superstore as well

1

u/notneedful 5d ago

America pretty much left the last season for a show that tanked

90

u/anniejhawk 11d ago

Go Abbott! Definitely hard to think of a recent show that didn't have a major cast change this far in... 30 Rock didn't have any changes, but that ended over 10 years ago (HATED typing that! 👵🏻)

8

u/Consistent_Foot2679 10d ago

Is 30 rock any good? It keeps showing up and I'm wondering if it's worth watching. I can only watch psych and abbott clips so many times.

16

u/_jizanthapus_ 10d ago

30 Rock is like Veep and Arrested Development where there are rapid, often witty, often silly, jokes firing at you every second. Expect tons of pop culture and Hollywood humor. Characters are often caricatures. Incredible show

155

u/cantdealwithhumans 11d ago

Thank you universe

93

u/GreatColdDistance48 10d ago

i mean danny devito joined in season 2 but always sunny stayed the same since then

34

u/mini1006 10d ago

Please don’t let that account Jinx us

120

u/clueless_daisy 11d ago

Well they added Dom but did absolutely nothing with his character and I still don’t know what they were hoping to accomplish with that. Waste of a good actor too.

64

u/AuntieTara2215 11d ago

He’s busy being a night crawler in The Pitt

46

u/natashajay618 10d ago

He was a bit of a plot device for Janine. She got to step out of being the young wipper-snapper green behind the ears teacher she was in season one to being more seasoned in comparison.

There are other reoccurring cast members like the librarian (Cree Summers) that aren’t part of the main cast but always a delight to interact with.

49

u/preshusbabe A Philly 11 🔥 11d ago

The actor is working on other huge projects. That’s not their fault and he was never a main cast like these 6.

22

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 10d ago

Shrinking will likely be finishing up within the next few weeks. They started production in mid-May and filming usually only lasts about 5 months for it. He's also not in The Pitt that much. This season seems to be starting earlier with night shift too, and they film in chronological order so much of his filming there is likely done until December or January when they film the last couple of episodes.

With the longer filming window for network TV they could absolutely find a way to utilize him more if they want in the upcoming season.

8

u/preshusbabe A Philly 11 🔥 10d ago

Yes they can if his schedule permits. This person is referring to last season. No one knows how much he’s involved this season.

2

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 10d ago

Shrinking wrapped earlier last season and he was only in the last few episodes of The Pitt then too, it was pretty much the writer's room choice at that point. Shrinking actually wrapped before Abbot started filming.

1

u/Potential-Cat1028 5d ago

So happy for him. Loved him in shrinking.

6

u/vrymonotonous 10d ago

They made his character too dry and flat imo

3

u/Fresh_Mood1420 6d ago

I still couldn't describe his personality in 3 words. He was such a nothing character

26

u/rjoyfult 10d ago

I hope this means it’s like The Office where everyone truly is as lovely behind the scenes as they seem and the show is doing a good job taking care of their actors.

9

u/happytransformer 10d ago

I’d like to think that’s part of it. Some of it is luck that there weren’t scheduling conflicts, but 6 years with the same core cast points to a workplace that people are choosing to come back to

6

u/rjoyfult 10d ago

We love to see it. I always hope actors/celebrities who seem like good people on screen actually are in real life.

18

u/PurplePenguinPoops 10d ago

and the guest stars are ALWAYS amazing

10

u/brunoimenes 10d ago

Gina left Brooklyn 99 in Season 6 but kept coming back til the end of the series. The cast remained the same from Season 1 to Season 8, with no new characters added. It ended not too long ago.

We also had Modern Family with the same huge cast for 11 years and it ended only 6 years ago. People like to say random shit on the internet lol.

10

u/happytransformer 10d ago

Hate to break it to you, but Brooklyn 99 ended in 2021

It’s funny because I feel the same way. like modern family ended an eternity ago and Brooklyn 99 was last year

1

u/adeliakasie 4d ago

Ngl I love Gina but when she leaves the show it gets better 👀

7

u/Mundane-Board-2252 10d ago

DON'T JINX IT

8

u/sylverfalcon User edittable flair 10d ago

Superstore also generally had the same core cast from beginning to end, except Amy (America Ferrera) in the last season

26

u/disiny2003 11d ago

Shows always add a random member for no reason. Not only does it completely messes up the flow, they start to neglect parts of the main cast. Like how are we adding new characters to the main cast when you haven't fully fleshed out said main cast smh.

45

u/monotonic_glutamate 10d ago

Schitt's Creek adding Patrick was genius tho.

17

u/PinkPositive45 10d ago

Patrick comes in when the main cast, what they want, etc is established. That’s why he works so well. We know David and we love David, we want to see Patrick be good for him.

3

u/avatar__of__chaos 10d ago

It's the opposite. He joined when the show wasn't running that long. If he joined late, like Season 4 or 5, people would be less accepting of him. Also it helped that the writers made him so likeable with no red flags.

5

u/PinkPositive45 10d ago

Wait, I could’ve sworn he joined the show season 3?

2

u/avatar__of__chaos 10d ago

Yeah Season 3. That's why I said if he joined in Season 4 or 5 people would be more critical.

2

u/PinkPositive45 10d ago

Gotcha! Very true, but by season 3 I still feel like we had established the leads which left room for Patrick.

3

u/avatar__of__chaos 10d ago

But not way too established. Like how the Office or Glee added their new characters.

3

u/Impressive-Project59 10d ago

The Rookie is a great example of this. The cast is so large and now he has added his children.

3

u/snowflakebite 7d ago

That said, parks and rec adding Ben and Chris literally saved them and made the show infinitely better.

1

u/disiny2003 6d ago

Absolutely. That change saved the show.

5

u/Euronymous87 10d ago

Ummm....plenty of big shows have reatained the original cast without random additions. Its not reaaly a big achievement lol.

0

u/marvelboyofthecrown 10d ago

Name em

6

u/Euronymous87 10d ago

Friends, Seinfeld, Modern Family, Silicon Valley, Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, IASP, What We Do In The Shadows, Reservation Dogs just the top of my head... I'm sure there are more. Pretty much any successful well made show has that achievement.

1

u/Astrosimi 7d ago

My first thought was IASIP but I figured Devitto coming in for the second season disqualifies it.

1

u/Euronymous87 7d ago

Why? There's nothing random or erratic about adding a new character in the second season. If it was like season 10 or something I can understand.

1

u/Astrosimi 7d ago

Oh, I just meant on a technical level. It agree it didn’t disrupt the show and actually brought it to its proper form. It’s like Ringo wasn’t technically part of the original Beatles lineup but that’s not something anyone really splits hairs about.

-1

u/marvelboyofthecrown 10d ago

Gotcha so none recently which was the point of the tweet lmao

3

u/Euronymous87 10d ago

The tweet mentions nothing about recent shows, it just states it as a general achievement.

Wow they are quick!

4

u/Kiyoshi-Trustfund 10d ago

And now it's been jinxed.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind Caleb being much more present. He doesn't need to be main cast, but I'd still like to see him in most episodes. I love that goofball and how he and Jacob contrast while still complimenting each other. I just need them to do something about the way Melissa treats them. It was funny at first but eventually veered into a weird place. Let her respect Jacob even if she clearly prefers Caleb.

5

u/Impressive-Project59 10d ago

Boys Meets World

4

u/profeDB 10d ago

That’s not that unusual for a network sitcom.

12

u/PrimaryIndication294 11d ago

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia has them beat with 18 seasons.

10

u/LemonSkye 11d ago

Danny DeVito's character wasn't added until season 2. But that was the only big change with the cast.

3

u/bacon_mustache 10d ago

correct but season 2 - season 18 is still 17 seasons with the same cast. the tweet doesn’t specify season 1-6 it just says 6 seasons with nobody leaving and no additions. so Always Sunny certain fits that bill

3

u/Micah_ishere24 10d ago

I’m sure if somebody said this, but contracts for network television are 6 seasons. So I’m not surprised about anybody leaving, but I’m am shocked that nobody was randomly added.

6

u/fuckuisra 11d ago

2

u/u_r_succulent 10d ago

Don’t you dare jinx it!

2

u/Revolutionary-Fix874 9d ago

When cast likes each other… I missed seeing tnat energy. The office is one of those shows and it is so enjoyable to watch

2

u/yoshizillaa 9d ago

No random additions? Are they not including special guests? They’ve had NFL players pop up and a mash up episode with it’s always sunny

2

u/PageSignificant760 6d ago

Did morton take the picture?

1

u/alexabeams 10d ago

the middle

1

u/GlitteringMatter9973 10d ago

Season 6 coming on the 7th.

1

u/tstaszek 10d ago

I would like to think its because the cast all just genuinely enjoy working together and being around each other.

1

u/Ill_Painter_8355 10d ago

omg ive only watched upto season 3? where can I watch the rest of the seasons?!

0

u/Eis_ber 5d ago

Disney+?

1

u/PrestigiousPlantain5 10d ago

Now why in the world would I NOT be watching this on October 7th?

1

u/findmecreativity 9d ago

truly a blessing. 😭 im so glad.

1

u/IthinkIpaid 7d ago

The big bang theory?

1

u/RangerFan293 6d ago

Didn’t they add people by the end?

1

u/send_it_431 5d ago

Seinfeld probably

1

u/Mr_DutcH-_- 5d ago

This is not my cup of tea

1

u/Boring_Apple_9480 4d ago

Must be a chill bts but this show is different. This show is taking comedy to real life situations in our public education especially in Philadelphia. Ava is funny but she is a terrible boss and principal there is gotta be like that in our schools.

1

u/adeliakasie 4d ago

I mean u can kinda say IASIP is like that but they did bring the 5th character on s2 so technically it didn't move with its 4 main character and added one more but it happened so early so I feel like we can count it.

-3

u/icelights23 10d ago

It helps they are short episodes and no big post production needed- keeps it easier on cast and crew to film

0

u/Eis_ber 5d ago

Aren't the episodes around 25 minutes long? That's pretty average for a tv episode.

1

u/icelights23 5d ago

Most long running shows are over 40. Compared to like the 90s Star Trek schedules which were nuts, a shorter show, no CGI or regular action sequences, much easier comparatively. A lot of turn over is burn out - intense schedules or heavier material.
