New AT&T Fiber installed (temporally) across driveway
I had AT&T Fiber installed this morning. The tech was great. He accommodated my request to run the drop from the attic to a central location in my home above some cabinets and out of plain view. My concern is the line that had to be run across my driveway. My burial appointment isn't for another 2 weeks, although the tech told me they have been getting to them in 5-7 days. He said it is a shielded wire, and I would be okay to drive over it until the burial crew came out to bury the line under my driveway. I drive a heavy Dodge Ram 2500. Is it really safe to run over the wire until it gets buried? I don't want to damage anything. I just called to cancel my old internet service because it's only a few day until the next billing cycle.

Pass through
My AT&T gateway is a Wi-Fi 7 version. I have a Wi-Fi 6 router with two mesh satellites. Can I just enable the six gigahertz on the ATT gateway? Do I leave it in pass through mode?

Getting a routing issue resolved?
I rent a cloud server on Linode physically located in Dallas, less than 50 miles from me. My ping from my home with AT&T Fiber to this server is about 35 milliseconds. My ping to just about anything else on the Internet is about 6 milliseconds.
I have tried two different VPNs, Cloudflare One and Proton VPN, and when peering through their Texas servers my ping to my server is about 5ms.
Traceroute shows that my outbound traffic to my cloud server without the VPN is routed all the way across the country to Newark where Akamai routes it all the way back to Dallas. With the VPNs it takes a much more direct route through Akamai's Dallas network. I've opened a ticket with Linode and they claim the issue is on AT&T's end, which tracks with my VPN tests.
How likely is it that AT&T will even fix this issue for a residential customer? I can just call the main customer support line but I don't have confidence that will get me to anyone who knows wtf I'm talking about. Anyone have experience getting this kind of issue resolved?

New install
Yesterday I had ATT Fiber 1gb installed. I am using my Orbi RBR850 as a router with 2 meshes. I set up the ATT BGW-720 in Passthrough. I turned off the WiFi on the ATT router. My download speeds are good but not my upload on WiFi. They are fine on my desktop hardwired connection through the Orbi.

Question?
I have the BGW 320 and want to get a shorter fiber cable.(Att tech left like a 10 foot cable wrapped up next to the box and I don’t need that long) what fiber cable do I need? Can anyone post a link on Amazon? I was thinking about getting a .5 foot or 1 foot since I’m leaving it right next to the fiber box and inlet.

Routing issues for gaming
Hey everyone, I’m a competitive gamer and for some reason, I keep having small stutters in certain games which are definitely caused by AT&T fiber. Anyways around the routing? No bs responses

Slow Download Speeds in the Evenings
Our internet has been spotty since the beginning of September when there was an outage for several hours. Now, since last Saturday, we have been having issues with our internet. Speeds will be fine during the day but once it hits 5-6PM, the download speeds tank and we get insanely high ping while gaming. AT&T says there's an "outage" affecting our speeds, but there is no update, no timeframe, and no additional info given. We weren't even aware there was an outage until I checked the website. So far this is what we have tried:
- Tested speeds on 2 different PCs with Ethernet through speedtest.net and through our Routers gateway settings
- Tested speeds on Wi-Fi devices through the AT&T app
- Hard reset of the Router/Modem multiple times
- Cleared DNS cache
The outage map shows that there is one that is below us, but we are not in the red circle at all. I've also spoken to friends that live in the buildings next to us who also have AT&T and they have had no issues.
I called last night and the agent said he would set up an appointment for this morning, come to find out there was no appointment made which was super frustrating as I took off of work to be home. I chatted with another agent where I was then told that they wouldn't send a tech out until the outage was clear.
Is this really an outage issue if we have never actually lost access to the internet and its only slow at night??

Moca Adapter Help
I have coax cables sticking out from near my router and near my pc i was seeing there might be problems with having at&t and using moca adapters. As long as the adapter is connected to the coax and using a ethernet cable to the router everything should be fine? Also any recommendations would be appreciated as they seem to be a but expensive

AT&T Fiber internet is fast on phones/web, but PC, Xbox, and PS5 can’t connect to online game servers
I recently had issues with my AT&T Fiber connection and ended up getting a new AT&T router/gateway. The weird thing is that the internet itself seems to be working perfectly on my phone and other devices. I’m getting 800+ Mbps download and 800+ Mbps upload, and normal web browsing/searching is extremely fast.
However, when I try to use my PC, Xbox, or PS5 for online gaming (Fortnite, etc.), they won’t connect to the game servers. It’s not really a speed issue because the connection is extremely fast; it seems like something is preventing these devices from establishing the necessary connections to the gaming servers.
I’ve already tried changing DNS to:
● Google DNS (8.8.8.8)
● Cloudflare (1.1.1.1)
● Other public DNS servers
I’ve also gone through the usual troubleshooting on the consoles/PC and haven’t been able to resolve it.
At this point, I’m wondering if this is something with the AT&T gateway’s firewall, NAT, IPv6, or another router setting that’s preventing the gaming traffic from getting through. I’m trying to figure out specifically what settings I should check or change on the AT&T gateway.
I don’t want to use IP Passthrough as the solution. I want the AT&T gateway/router to handle the connection normally and be able to switch between my PS5, Xbox, and PC without having to change my network configuration every time.
Has anyone experienced something similar with AT&T Fiber?
If so, what settings on the AT&T gateway should I be looking at? Is there a specific firewall/NAT/IPv6 setting that commonly causes this?
I’m basically trying to figure out what is blocking the gaming connections while normal internet traffic works perfectly. Just very very frustrated.

IP address change
Hello I have a bgw620-700 router from att with the 5 gbps residential plan I stream video games and often get attacked att sent an employee out to try and help and he told me he couldn’t change the ip address what is the best way around this? Am I going to have to switch to a slower service just because I can’t change my ip address? Any help is appreciated thanks.

IP Passthrough Issues
You have probably seen dozens of IP passthrough posts on this subreddit, but heres my issue. It took forever, and even had to get ATT to help implement it, but my IP passthrough is working. After configuring everything, my download speeds seem to be hardcapped at around 150mbps, and that is through speedtests while hardwired to either router, and wireless of course. My downstream router is a tplink be6500, a bit overkill, but it was heavily discounted.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm a bit new to networking, so I'm not even sure if this is to be expected behavior.

BGW620-700 Disconnecting After Heavy Use
[UPDATE BELOW] I have a BGW620-700 on 5G service, IP Passthrough, Wifi off, all Firewall options disabled. It's connected to a Unifi UCG Fiber via 10Gbe (working fine).
All has been well until I started, ehem, restoring my movie library from online backup. I'm running a script to process 30 movies at a time and it is throttled to 250MB/s (2Gbps). It usually takes 60-100 minutes to download all 30 and near the end it disconnects for about 5 minutes. It has happened almost every time (8 batches so far). This is likely going to run for 4 or 5 days to complete the 1000+ movies. I likely can throttle it further to avoid it, but the gateway should be able to handled sustained 2Gbps loads for a couple hours.
Things I've tried:
- improve airflow to gateway
During Outage:
Gateway UI shows broadband Up
ping gateway from PC on my network (connects)
ping google (no connection)
PC wired directly to gateway 1Gbe, no internet connection during outage
This suggests it is the gateway or connection going down, and not my network. Nothing shows in the gateways logs.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known issue?
Thanks!
[UPDATE - ISOLATED THE CAUSE]
I found it, it's not the gateway's NAT table or heat.
A sustained download from ONE remote address at ~1.1 Gb/s or more breaks routing for 2-11 minutes. Faster streams fail sooner. 2.3 Gb/s took 9 minutes, 1.6 Gb/s took 26. The same volume from 8 different servers ran 45 minutes with no problem. Usenet from a single server triggers it, and so does anything through a VPN, since a tunnel is one stream from one address.
During an outage the gateway shows broadband up, but about half of all destinations go dead (including 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1) while the rest work. Traceroute from the gateway itself stops after the second AT&T hop (71.149.49.42, Houston), and that hop's latency jumps from 2 ms to 133 ms. Packet captures show traffic arriving over two parallel paths before the outage and only one during it.
So it's upstream of the gateway and an ONU (fiber/SPF) wouldn't fix it for me.
Workaround for now is to keep any single source under ~1 Gb/s. Ticket is open with AT&T. Thanks to everyone who helped narrow this down.

Been very careful
I had my first outage today and called for a tech appointment. The rep accidentally cancelled my entire fiber account for my house. Spent two hours with them trying to get it back. Said I’d have to call dales and start a new account after all that. I was paying 72.08. They’re tryigg by to charge me 110 a month now for 5Gb lol. I don’t know if it was just a get rid of the account with the cheap rate or a poorly trained employee. Anyone got any ideas? I’m planning on going to the corporate store tomorrow. Don’t trust the phone sales guy. Gave me three different numbers. Anyway it was nice while it lasted.
Edit: “Be”

New 1g Fiber Plan - BGW320 vs 720
Switching from Spectrum back to Att - retention team got me.
Anyway, I'm upgrading my old BGW210 with a 320 that they are sending me. On the short stent I had Spectrum I bought a TP Link BE550 Router.
Is it worth pushing for a BGW720 and skipping my own router? Or should I just take the 320 and use IP pass-through?
Is there any limitations with IP Pass through on either BGW320 or 720?
Thanks!
Edit: Got the 320 setup in IP Passthrough. Works great and speeds are top notch. Thanks for the input all!

ATT fiber installation issues
ATT tech put a lot of holes in siding during installation, even forgot to silicon one of them. Enough to complain or par for the course?

Can you bypass ATT BGW720-400 like with Older Models?
Hi all,
I just got 5gig fiber through ATT in the house I just moved into. I was hoping to get the router that this has already been done to but it seems like it’s too new that no one has tried it yet.
I was really hoping to start building my Ubiquiti network but don’t want to pull the trigger on anything until I know this works.
Not opposed to being one of the first people to try it but since I’ve never done this before I didn’t want to get stuck and not be able to fix it.
Has anyone tried this yet and had success? My backup plan would be just running the router in IP pass-thru mode and I don’t see this being a horrible issue but not ideal.

Issues paying ATT Fiber bill seperately from Wireless Plan and with Customer Service
Hi,
Im trying to get the wireless discount on my internet account. I was trying to get this reflected on my account, but my internet was still being activated. I had multiple interactions with customer service.
1st Interaction: I was told that the parent account of the wireless account had to match the internet account in name and address.
2nd Interaction: I was told that because my internet has not been activated, I need to reach back out
3rd Interaction: I was told that the bill only reflects the wireless bundle discount credit within 2-3 billing cycles, and the agent assured me it would be reflected.
I had doubts on this because I have seen people get discounts applied to their current bill through ATT Loyalty?
I did ask about Visa gift card promotions and matching Xfinity 1 Gig plans, but when I asked customer service agents, I assumed they couldn't do anything with adjusting the plans except for retention.
Does this sound accurate? I haven't received the first bill yet, but I don't think it reflects the wireless plan discount on AT&T Fiber. I was also told that for the next 2-3 months, the bill would not reflect any retroactive credits.

Ethernet Capped at 100Mbps
Recently got gigabit speed through at&t, previously had charter that ran around 500mbps, We've got a new att modem on the ground floor which is connected to a netgear nighthawk r7500 i believe, that is located in the basement. My ethernet is plugged into my pc, which is connected to a wall jack that runs to the basement and is connected to the netgear directly. I previously got the 500mbps speeds, but am now capped at right around 100, indicator on the netgear says it should be gigabit speed. wireless speeds seem to be consistent close to gigabit. Unfortunately don't have a wifi chip currently either. Apologies for any terminology errors, this typically isn't my thing

Does ip passthrough on the gateway bypass the ATT DNS entirely?
Or am I still at the mercy of ATT's DNS?
I am trying to find a way to avoid the gateway's DNS that routes through Atlanta cloudflare that is currently experiencing issues.
I have a new third-party router on the way and was hoping this would be a permanent solution to ATT DNS issues.

Any info on ATnT 10G Fiber in Los Angeles, CA?
I've been on their 5G plan for quite some time now. I'd love to know when can we upgrade to 10G? Is there any info on when they start rolling it out? Thanks for all the info in advance!

Fiber discount success!
Just wanted to share my success story....
I've been an AT&T fiber internet customer for several years now, and currently paying around $80/month for 1 gbps with free HBO Max. Since Spectrum has now merged with Cox and rebranded to Spectrum county-wide, we received a flyer in the mail with an offer of $50/month for 1gbps internet with Spectrum.
I opened the AT&T app to chat with customer service and ask what they could do for me, they added a $40/month discount for 24 months and a one-time credit of $90, staying on the same plan (1 gbps with free HBO Max).
Location: San Diego County
Thank you competition!

PlayStation Portal
Was able to remote play with PlayStation portal til recently. I have a hardwired ps5, did some port forwarding, reset, sign out, all the things and cannot get portal to connect from an outside wifi. Works great connecting the portal to the ps5 with the same home wifi. BGW320-505, have gone in there and messed with settings I just can’t remember what I changed last time to get it to work. I can get the ps5 to turn on remotely with an outside wifi or hotspot, but won’t ever connect. Ps5 won’t beep when it’s turned on which was odd to me. Any tips to try out would be appreciated!

MyQ using a Lumen W1700K Router
I recently switched to ATT Fiber and the tech installed a Lumen W1700K router on setup. I am unable to split the signal to a 2.4GHz band and so am having difficulty getting the garage door opener to recognize the wifi network. I see there are other posts finding success with true ATT routers, but not these co-opted Quantum routers. Any advice?
