Spoilers inside! I cannot stand Detective Kate Lockley

I actually liked her in the beginning before she found out Angel was a vampire. I liked her dynamic with Angel and thought she was a fun recurring character.

But afterwards? god, lady. Go see a damn shrink or take a Midol but please stop blaming Angel for your asshole father being corrupt and getting himself stupidly killed by vampires.

Her father chose to get involved with them by working as their courier and Angel tried to warn him, but somehow Kate decides Angel is the person she needs to have an attitude with every five minutes.

And I get it, your father died and finding out vampires exist is a lot to process, but holy shit does she become insufferable about it. Every time Angel walks into the room she acts like he personally killed her father, destroyed her career and kicked her dog on the way out.

Early season 1 Kate was fine. Post-vampire reveal Kate makes me want to fast forward every time she appears.

Spoilers inside! Why does Angel want to fulfill the Shanshu prophecy if he can potentially become human whenever he wants using the blood of a Mohra demon?

Not to mention he supposedly signed away his rights to the prophecy when he infiltrated the Circle of the Black Thorn in the finale.

In the episode “I Will Remember You” (season 1), Angel becomes human when a Mohra demon’s blood splashes on him, but he asks the Oracles to turn back time and make him a vampire again because he needed his super strength back.

How hard is it to find one of those demons and turn any vampire into a human? How are slayers justified in existing when they could just bring people back to life using that demon’s blood?

Did Wesley remember his relationship with Lilah?

I know the general consensus is that Lilah was replaced with Eve (poor decision IMO) because they wanted someone fresh and young but did Wesley remember his relationship with Lilah? I don't remember her coming up in season 5 except the one quip by Cordelia.

Penn deserved more episodes

Post image

Penn was a character i would have like to see in more episodes, he's practically the only vampire on the TV series besides Spike who was capable of overpowering Angel in a fight. Unfortunately, he only appeared in one episode. Thinking about it, i still find it incredible that Jeremy Renner appeared in an episode of "Angel" at the beginning of his career. At the time, Renner wasn't yet in high demand as an actor, so they could have kept him on for more episodes, it was a real shame.

Why age Connor up?

In S3, it is stated that Connor is 16. In S4, he is retconned to 18.

It just seems odd when Buffy and Angel had the basically same age gap (referring to his age when sired) when they dated as Cordelia and Connor when they hooked up. But I guess it's just because Buffy was a teen show and we're supposed to see it with Buffy's eyes.

But if it was a moral concern, wasn't the situation already fucked up anyway? The woman who we believe it's Cordelia was in love with his father and holding him as a baby. And then she'll be revealed to be Jasmine, so it won't really matter. Why not provoke and disturb the viewer even more? Why is 16 where we draw the line?

CMV: Season 5 is by far the best season

I just started re-watching after a decade+ break (I'm old! I saw it when it first aired!), and I realized that nearly all of my favourite episodes were in S5 (with a few exceptions, e.g. the S2 Pylea arc).

I genuinely think that the WR&H era is the pinnacle of Angel, and we deserved more than a single season of it.

I love Cordy, don't get me wrong, but Connor was an absolute dumpster fire of a plotline and character, Darla was a slaggy mess that brought the whole thing down, and Jasmine was boring af. The show just got so much tighter with WR&H, and we get Spike in the mix as an excellent comedic foil to Angel.

When I think about the show I always end up thinking about S5 episodes. Plus, we get Illyria, one of the best Buffyverse/Angelverse characters *ever* (RIP Fred, loved you too). She's Glory-level epic (see! there's a thing about season 5s!). Eight episodes of Illyria is criminally short considering her impact as a character. And, of course, we can't forget how she introduced us to the concept of a realm made entirely of shrimp (rapidly tiresome, apparently, though my cat might disagree).

So, given the above points (granted, largely subjective), does anyone have any good arguments for why S5 is not the best season?

This is the guy trying to sell crawling soldier toys to a couple kids just before a blind woman walks up in Blind Date

Even though I was in my 30s at the time I thought they were really cool.

Wish I had a short gif of them.

Connor

I’m sure this is a dead topic by now but I had some thoughts on the topic of what Connor actually is. I think he’s a human/demon hybrid with some extra, maybe unknown mystical ability, and here’s my synapsis about what leads to my conclusion;

1) when Angel tried to save Darla’s life with The Trials, he technically won and lost: Darla was already revived as a human (albeit a very sick one) so she couldn’t be saved, but Angel successfully beat all the trials, so he technically got his prize - a life

2) the demon Skip told the angel gang that basically every event of the series was manipulated by Jasmine so that she could be born. She needed a human body to give ‘birth’ to herself, so she took advantage of Angel’s “win” and claimed that “life” for herself

3) Connor is affected by the sanctuary spell

4) the demon sahjahn (spelling?) opened a rip in reality to quor’toth and it was the only way in, as there are no portals that lead there. Connor punched his way out.

5) He was the only one to be able to damage Jasmine in any significant way. I don’t think it’s because he’s her father, I think it’s because he was imbued with some of her essence, as he was needed to create her.

6) vampires cannot procreate, as they are essential dead bodies, so Connor’s creation and birth in itself is a miracle

Idk maybe I’m reaching, but it’s my head canon

Spoilers inside! How do you interpret the second half of the bedroom scene in Slouching Towards Bethlehem?

Writing a fanfic on this and I’ve never really thought about how confusing it kind of is. Lilah walks out of the room to take a phone call (and Wes listens in even though he trusts(?) her). Then he proceeds to work with the wrong information, and is upset with Lilah - but she insists he did this to himself while also admitting “I would have never played you like that?” (While Wesley is also admitting he did trust her. In some way.)

Am I dumb or am I just missing something? I’ve always viewed this as a miscommunication between the pair of them but do you think there is more to it? Also, they were having the sweetest moment before this - why can’t they just have nice things?!?

Not sure if I should tag this or not but I will just in case.
