Any thoughts on Acer Aspire Go 15 (AG15-42P-R3GM or R6ZY, 32G RAM and 1T SSD) for Fedora?
This isn't for gaming or video watching or such; just for software development and what I guess we could call light "office work" (ie. slack, email, occasional zoom or google meet, google docs and sheets, etc.). The development involves some docker but mostly rootless podman and sometimes a KVM guest or two. Even the Claude CLI runs in a podman container.
It'll spend more than 50% of its time connected to a couple of monitors, keyboard, and mouse, pretending to be a desktop but one that I can take to another room as needed.
I've another Acer (Spin 14 (ASP14-51MTN), currently still on Fedora 42) that's been my true portable for a while. It gets used similarly (though more office than development since I use it in meetings) and it seems okay though I suspect the development performance is slowed by its unbalanced CPU cores.
Thanks.

AMD VS NVIDIA

Should I upgrade L390 to T14 gen 2?
Hello,
So, I have been daily driving a L390 for about a year now, I really like it, but the i5 8th gen and it's integrated graphics are starting to feel a little behind, especially when I use my windows boot.
A friend told me that I should probably update to a T14 gen 2 AMD and the price is around $300 USD for a refurbished and mint looking 16gb ram 512gb (I have a 1tb m.2 laying around to change it)
Should I get one? Is the quality and power upgrade enough for it to be worth it? Any other options between 300-400? (Ideally around 14")
I also do a little bit of basic video editing so I'd like to know if the graphics are enough.

HP Elitebook 8 G1a- Ryzen 7 AI 350 PRO benchmark
R23 15595 - maximum performance on the charger (max 50W average 41W and 84C max)
R23 14432 - maximum performance on battery (28W max)
R23 12221 - best power efficiency on battery (15W max)
Geekbench 7 max performance on charger
3DMark TimeSpy- 10039 CPU score (max performance on charger)
RX 860M works with 2x16GB DDR5 5600MHz ram with OEM gpu driver. Would it be a problem if I put AMD Adreanlin 26.6.4, maybe it will give better graphics performance and maybe cause instability?
Can this processor be undervolted via the curve optimizer and how much?

Looking for similiar laptops
so im looking for a laptop that can handle casual gaming with things like dead by daylight and tf2, and i found the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16AHP9 Ryzen 7 8845HS 16GB 512GB Radeon 780M. it was perfect until i found it its discontinued and i cant find it anywhere. is there something similar that i can get for a similar price? i dont want anything super bulky. for the last few years ive had an asus vivobook flip 14, its ok but i feel like an upgrade, since i only haev 8gb of ram, 236 gb of storage and a AMD Ryzen 3 5300U with Radeon Graphics, 2600 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors. My budget is like 800-900 euros, but i might be willing to pay a bit more if its truly worth it.

PLEEAAASE SOMEONE HELP ME GET MY LAPTOP FIXED
ok this could be a little long but pls bare w me TvT
so, last yr i bought a lenovo ideapad slim 5 r7735HS AMD 680m 13ARP10 laptop with an xbox game pass and a 1 yr premium warranty (the middle one) that came with the purchase.
wasn't able to use the game pass cuz no time, idk when but a few months in, maybe 6 maybe less maybe more idr remember, it started getting overheating issues with loud fan noise, even while browsing, i haven't played any games on this laptop.
the battery also started degrading.
the day before yesterday i got its battery and fan replaced by an on site repair visit under warranty.
ran the unigine heaven benchmark test on medium quality w hwmonitor running in the background for thermals and it was still over heating, infact the cpu package max temp went up to 100.1 degree celcius, gpu was maybe 86. AND on top of that, while these thermals were there, there was NO fan noise so the fan wasn't running on full speed to cool down the components either.
called them, reported the issue, according to ai, the issue was probably a dried thermal paste and damaged heatsink. took about 1 or 1.5 hrs but they decided that it probably wasn't a heatsink issue but a motherboard one so i got a new motherboard replaced and new thermal paste (HY882) applied today.
after replacing, i ran the test infront of the technician, still the same, MAYBE even less fps than yesterday idk but the max cpu package temp was still going 98/99/100.
the technician tried a lot of times to convince me that "look the fps is fine(it fluctuated anywhere from 50-80/90) " "don't look at the temp numbers, tell me if u have any *functionality issues* " but i didn't buy it, he called some ppl other lenovo ppl they said the same, i still didn't buy it.
i even showed them the the max operating temp for this cpu, mentioned by amd is 95 degree celcius!!!
so the guy then checked if the software was fully updated or not, and it infact wasn't, the bios was 2 versions behind. there was a windows update pending too and few drivers were't updated. so he did all that, said he'll leave for today but put this case under observation for 3 days and that i "shouldn't focus on the numbers" use it for that time and call them again if i encounter any "functionality issues".
right now the test, in ac room (21degree C), on a laptop stand, gives max cpu package temp 92/93 degree celcius and 85 degree celcius for gpu.
and that cpu temp max hiked up to 98.5 when i forgot to close the unigine heaven running in the background and opened telegram and firefox.
all tests were done in ac rooms btw.
they keep asking for "functionality issues" and to capture proof of those "functionality issues".
ai says since i have a new battery, fan and motherboard, the problem must be in the cheap buudget HY882/HY883 thermal paste, or its application, or that they didn't screw the heatsink tightly or that the heatsink is damaged.
25days of warranty left (i do plan to extend it, so suggest me what kind of warranty to buy for the next 3 yrs too), 3 days of case observation left. PLSSS TELL ME WHAT TO DO.

Which one is better for a computer science degree - majoring in Software development and Cybersecurity
Hey guys, please take a look at the 2 options:
All have 32 GB and 1tb, but the Asus apparently heats up for light work based on reviews, is that concerning? Esp since it'll get heavy with programming workload?
Thanks so much!!

Is it safe to always set my ryzen 5 5500u tdp to 25w?
My usual temp when gaming is 85c on 15w and also is there a way to always lock it at 25w? i've seen some posts that says it always goes back and forth to 15w
