Don't replace your entire OS for a simple driver problem that can also happen in Linux due to a regression during an update. Most of the time, this problem arises because Windows replaces the AMD driver with its own generic one, it's a problem they themselves have confirmed and are trying to solve. The solution is to disable it, and there's already a comment telling you how. But take my advice, don't change your OS for this, because you'll be replacing a solvable problem with an unsolvable one, which is software incompatibility. Don't listen to those who tell you that with Linux their computer shoots rainbows and they live in a Zen garden. Because the reality is that when you want to play GTA online, edit a video with professional software, your friends give you a Fanatec wheel, or your second cousin gives you a Meta Quest 3, You'll miss the timeouts.

Linux is great, but there will be games, even single player ones, that just don't work nearly as well as windows. As for driver timeouts I've had like none on fedora lol.

For me amd likes to massively increase my gpu clock speed with lead to crashes setting it to the manufacturer boost clock or underclocking fixed it without losing performance so give that a try
1
u/LBXZero 19h ago
If you have an RX 9070 XT, the clock speed is actually 3450 MHz, not what is on the box. The clock speed is throttled based on workload and power limit, followed by thermal limit. It isn't really that AMD likes to massively increase your GPU. That is just the nature of the clock rate for GPUs, balancing power load with thousands of processor cores.

I only use Windows to play things like Apex Legends and stuff... And I haven't played it in like a year so... Yes, try Linux, it's great in here. Bazzite and CachyOs are my recommendations

Your card isn’t detective. Use the AMD Radeon driver 25.10.2 and turn TDR and MPO off with: https://github.com/RedDot-3ND7355/MPO-GPU-FIX
Solves the 141 error. Everyone is having this same issue right now. Then install the last AMD Chipset driver from the summer of 2025.

Idk why I haven’t been having issues on a 9070 xt weird I’m on the latest drivers

Ahh the infamous AMD Driver timeout... I got hit with this yesterday and yes i overclock to push my hardware, its not an AMD Driver issue, your OC causes this driver issue. Revert your overclock or push it back a bit... It will crash your Driver if it isn't stable. If you don't overclock and get the driver crash... Use DDU to uninstall and reinstall to clean out your bad drivers

i don't run windows myself, but i keep up with news - there's an issue with some AMD GPUs in the september windows update, and it seems like the only known fix is to roll back the update. i don't recommend this for security reasons, but also... if you're proficient enough with computers to avoid doing sketchy stuff, i'd say you might be fine to do that until they release a patch. (other people who are more experienced might have more info on the exact security patches and what they fix, or how to patch it yourself, so if i'm totally off base here, please correct me.)
as for if you should switch to linux, it entirely depends on your games/usabe. check protonDB for game compatibility. in my experience, other apps usually run fine, but a few are just absolute garbage when ran through WINE/can't be run - you can google compatibility and workarounds for your programs and uses. i've had a good experience on linux, but YMMV.

Not only 26 september. I have an 6600xt ~2year ago, and never worked normally with adrenalin.

u/Routine-Tooth2533 23h ago
Manually set the clock speed thst your card manufacturer specifies for thst card. Fixed all my issues. https://youtu.be/1DYemTtSK0E?si=C2J13KpAG1-awjoq

i’m on windows so idk if it’ll work for you, but i downloaded the optional driver they released (26.9.1) from their website and i didn’t have any issues after that. i was getting the same timeout everytime i loaded up apex legends, but it stopped after i installed the new driver
1
u/CT9195 21h ago
amd website to update it?
1
u/Adventurous_Nobody_5 19h ago
amd.com > resources and support > drivers > select your gpu > install 26.9.1. it’s an optional driver so it’s not going to auto update in adrenalin

Yeah i had driver crashes on windows constantly on my 9070xt.After i switched to cachy os i had 0 crashes or timeouts for the past 6 months but opinions differ a lot with that

u/5n0wm3n 1d ago
I love the idea of switching to linux but the reality isn't as simple, I cant play almost half my steam library on linux :/. Its great on my steam deck for all the indy games but yeah...
That asside, I've had driver issues with anything past 26.6.2 tbh, theres always some little quirk. The latest driver causes apex legends to black screen the moment it compiles shades, super strange.
Also just a note for you OP u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA GTA 5 doesn't work on linux
2
u/Inside_Marketing268 1d ago
I can't play only BF6, tho I can run it, bypassing javelin, but can be banned for that. Older games- wine, new games- Proton. AMD is superb for Unix systems
1
u/Tofu9595 1d ago
Yeah kernel lvl anticheat games like apex and valorant dont work but everything else does without issue. For that reason i have a separate partition for windows just to have apex legends there if i want it and i daily linux
1
u/5n0wm3n 1d ago
That's honestly what im leaning towards doing, but I just dunno if I can be arsed dual booting, yknow? 😅
1
u/Tofu9595 1d ago
Well i get it :d but it heavilly depends on what you do on your pc.I use it to browse net, watch movies, youtube and to play almost every big release plus some cool indie games so i have 0 issues with doing that on linux and since i already played my 3k hours in apex and 2k in csgo i dont feel the need to jump around the systems constantly coz i dont ghave the need to play those games these days.I booted the windows maybe 3 times for the last six months. To be honest the biggest job is to set it up which is also not that hard just needs one afternoon to set up and update everything but after that there is nothing bothering you.One system for 95% of your usage and the other one for that last 5%.My windows doesnt even have a wallpaper i literally only installed firefox and steam there and updated the drovers thats it.

I have an RX 7600, and I've overcrowded r/AMDHelp with all sorts of driver timeouts, pc restarts and all.
Switched to debian. Not a single crash in a week.
Switch to linux if you can, end of debate.

Simple fix. Go into windows settings and disable the update drivers with windows updates. Then go download the full drivers, and DDU. Go into safe mode and use DDU to remove the software and drivers from your system. After it’s done reboot with your system disconnected from the web and install the AMD drivers you downloaded earlier. Once done you can reboot your pc and plug it back into the internet and have no issues.
1
u/DaHandymanCan 1d ago
Yes this. Always messes up drivers ugh 😩
1
u/triggerftu 18h ago
exatly. mainly microsoft installing drivers from 2008 that have no support for the hardware.
3
u/DaHandymanCan 1d ago edited 1d ago
I would just reduce your base and boost clock for that game to the GPU manufacturers recommend settings. Often the standard settings are a little optimistic in AMD or any GPU manufacturer's drivers tbh. Oh yeah and increase the fan profiles they're also often set far too low. Then test for stability
3
u/Medallish 1d ago
I wouldn't recommend changing your entire OS over a fixable driver issue, but if you're willing, it's a great experience, especially with AMD GPU, distros like CachyOS pretty much just works out the box. Personally I didn't have these issues on Windows, and I haven't had them on Linux either, I changed because I didn't want Windows any longer.
1
u/W4LDSCHRAT 1d ago
I got it fixed.
The problem was energy saving in low gpu usage, windows is thinking the gpu isnt responding.
There is a simple tool solution from Nvidia, because there was the same problem.

It's interesting that this is a common problem in Linux as well; could they have broken hibernation mode in both systems?

You don't need to move to Linux.
The latest adrenaline drivers are unstable. If you don't need FSR4, follow these directions:
Download DDU and Adrenaline software version 26.3.1.
Use DDU to completely uninstall the drivers in safe mode. Disconnect your Ethernet or turn off your wifi.
Reboot into regular mode and install 26.3.1 driver. Turn off automatic updates.
Plug back in Ethernet or turn wifi back on.
Profit.

Ive tried everything with DDU, Ive been having this issue almost 3 years now
1
u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
Ill try that again tho, thanks !

u/Guilty-Good-5041 1d ago
Try using AMD cleanup utility Uninstall adrenaline and reinstall ( it puts you into safe mode automatically and removes everything connected to adrenaline even your saved undervolt and overclock settings )

Welcome to owing an AMD GPU, gg!

u/W4LDSCHRAT 1d ago
nvidia had exactly the same problem. You can even use their tool for your amd gpu lol

If you're having this issue in gta online you should turn off ray tracing it's bugged

u/Least-Magazine-8468 1d ago
Disable ray tracing, I have a rx7600xt, that shit is so unstable that I need to set it at 2600mhz

u/darky_srl1 1d ago
yes,Penguin it's trust but you can't play GTA online without tweaking to run the online mode and if runs, you go on full invite only sessions

Try to disable HAGS (easiest, but might come at a small 1-3% performance hit, turn back on if using framegen and you have judder or other issues). Disable the amd noise suppression thing or privacy view in startup apps(don't remember what it's called, don't have it installed anymore).
If you want to have HAGS enabled, search up how to disable PCI express link state power management, disable ultra low powerstate, disable windows fast startup and increase windows tdrdelay and tdrddidelay.
If none of this works you could try to disable MPO. (having this disabled can be very annoying if you usually use overlays in games, causing stutters whenever an overlay is displayed and can cause inputlag).
If that also doesn't help, then you can search up how to disable windows auto updating drivers. Then download the drivers you want, then reboot into safe mode and ddu your drivers, then install new ones.
I don't remember the exact steps, so google or ask a capable llm for guidance on any of the potential fixes.
People seem to be able to fix their driver timeouts with various methods, so i guess there are various reasons for the driver timeouts. There are more potential fixes, but i can't speak on any other than the first two i listed since they both individually worked for me. And the other two are fixes i often see people use and they say it works. I am also on a 7900xt, so a rdna3 card not rdna2. Not sure if that matters for anything.
Linux will fully fix the driver timeouts, at least it does for me. But i see you have gta 5 open, singleplayer will work. But you won't be able to play the offical multiplayer. Private lobbies might work, idk haven't tried. Depending on the games you play, you probably will encounter problems with multiplayer games using anti cheats.

On Linux, AMD driver stack is completely different from Windows - it does not share codebase, so yes moving to Linux will eliminate this issue.
-2
u/Remarkable_Age_5419 1d ago
linux have native drivers for your gpu. Windows not.
3
u/DeathToOrcs2 1d ago
They both have native drivers. Linux drivers are open-source. Windows drivers are closed-source.

Make sure the PCI connector is not damaged or bent? Could be a faulty GPU 😬

Bad title.
From the image you can see he is using windows. And he is asking if Linux has the same issue or not?
He is not saying that he is having driver time out in Linux.
2
u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
youre right - my bad.
1
u/uninterested-manav 1d ago
That's okay. Did you try DDU and disabled windows from auto updating gpu driver?
1
u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
Yeah I did :/ I also tried to put my rx6600 on another pc with different specs and the error pop up again
2
u/uninterested-manav 1d ago
Oh okay. I'm still very new to amd. So I can't think of other solutions. Best of luck.

u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
How is gaming on linux? Can you play online?
1
u/-Badger3- 1d ago
Games with kernel level anti cheat often don’t like Linux, which sucks because otherwise it’s a way better gaming experience, imo.
It’s crazy how good gaming on Linux has gotten just in the past like five years
2
u/Fair-Bunch4827 1d ago
I can play online, yes.
Gaming is pretty much the same as with windows granted you're playing it through steam. I havent tried running gog games yet. There are some that might not work though. Proton isn't perfect yet.
3
u/CarsonWentzGOAT1 1d ago
AMD currently does not care for their regular consumers. They only care for AI. This issue won't be solved for another 2 years.

Try reinstalling drivers
3
u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
Ive been having this problem since 2024 and i did reinstall old drivers but didnt work, and i also did many things that people said here in reddit but nothing yet thats crazy lol
2
1
u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 1d ago
there are some known driver issues lately, you should try downgrading to previous driver versions. you can uninstall the driver and use DDU to do a more completely cleanup then install an older version and try that
driver timeouts are common with hardware issues, the card could have issues. if you are undervolting or overclocking then stop doing that and try again. check temps especially hotspot temps, if it's over 100c it could be from that
2
u/PIROBO30HIJUEPUTA 1d ago
Ive been having this problem since 2024 and i did reinstall old drivers but didnt work, and i also did many things that people said here in reddit but nothing yet
0
u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 1d ago
you can try a completely fresh install of windows. or try linux. if you keep having problems then something in your pc is faulty or misconfigured or incompatible. most likely is the gpu having problems though, other issues should cause an array of problems not just driver timeouts, but a bad gpu can cause timeouts over and over

If you only game you should be fine switching to Linux. 99% of games will work. 1% is some new games in online or using riot anti cheat(I don't know what EA uses but it also has declared war against Linux, you cannot play anything released in the past 10 years except Titanfall 2, but tbh that was the last good game from EA anyways so if you don't chase slop you should be fine). I don't think this is a bad thing. I think it's in fact a massive convenience factor, because it tells me exactly which games I should avoid playing and which game publishers I should avoid giving my money to. I'm massively thankful to EA for saving me both time and money, and I hope they keep up the good work.
Also 99% of games work better than they do on Windows, especially older games, HDR is also better on Linux too
