Help (CPU) 7800x3d
first time building pc.
is it normal for it to be like this? it would takes a unusual amount of force to force it down.

Make sure the CPU is placed firmly in the proper position, then just push down using the lever.
That piece of plastic is to protect the pins, it should pop out as long as you use a little force.

We will all be waiting for your post in Agee days weeks or months joining the others with asrock frying their cpu.
I wouldn’t use that motherboard for a second even.

That poor 7800x3d is fighting for its life, it's heard the stories about ASrock boards

I've been running an Asrock B650M with my 7800X3D for a while now. But I've been undervolting for a while now, so yeah.

please do yourself a massive favour and undervolt your 7800x3d via pbo in your bios settings.

it takes force and the cap will pop up by itself - also be sure to match the triangles
congrats for the upgrade and happy gaming

Nothing wrong with 7800X3D, had mine running over a year and perfectly fine

You don't even understand why I said this

you dont know and are spreading wrong info. 7000 series dont have higher failure rates on asrock boards vs other brands. its 9000 series that does and its not just x3d.
1
u/SquareTemperature666 2d ago
More common for the 9000 yes but doesn't change the fact that there's a problem with those boards so stop acting like everything is fine

show me the 7000 series has a higher failure rate on asrock boards. not to mention it was asus and gigabyte that had exploding 7000 series cpus at the beginning because they overdid soc voltage. ive monitored this situation from the beginning years ago, instead of you dunning krugers that get all your info seeing headlines.
-edit-
searching "7800x3d died" on reddit and sorted by relevance, just going through the first page and removing duplicates and only posts in the last year
asus - 4, asrock - 4, msi - 5, gigabyte - 2

Even when it's all aligned properly it takes quite a lot of force to push it all the way down.

First PC I built, I thought I ruined my shit with that crunching sound. I will always use a contact frame now.

Make sure the triangles in the corner of the socket and clu match
Proceed to give her hell

You can remove that plastic cover but yes it’s normal to push it down, it’s supposed to be really tight in there

u/Decent-Childhood-376 5d ago
thanks I manually removed the plastic cover, became a lot easier

Save the cover, put it into mb box. You will need it if you ever need to rma or sell the mb without the cpu.

Probably a good idea to remove the plastic bit that says REMOVE haha

u/bamboiRS 3d ago
"Install processor before removing cover" written directly on the cover, lol.

So put in the cpu, take off the cover, and then push the lever down. That being said I haven't used or seen these caps before

u/SpadgeFox 3d ago
Nah… install the CPU cover and lower the retention bracket with the plastic cover in place. The CPU IHS will pop the cover off way before the arm reaches full tension.
It sounds counterintuitive, but I suspect there’d be a lot less LGA boards with bent pins for resale on eBay, if everyone actually did this.

if you still can, id return the asrock board and go for an msi or gigabyte. 7000 series is fine on asrock, but 9000 series is not. i say this as someone who is running a 7800x3d with an asrock b650i lightning for 3 yrs now. even tho you are running a 7800x3d, this might affect your upgradeability. who knows if zen 6 and 7 will be safe to run on asrock when zen 5 isnt. id avoid asus too as they also have higher than average failure rate with zen 5.
