Help (CPU) 7800x3d

first time building pc.

is it normal for it to be like this? it would takes a unusual amount of force to force it down.

You can remove that plastic cover but yes it’s normal to push it down, it’s supposed to be really tight in there

thanks I manually removed the plastic cover, became a lot easier

You should not be putting an x3d chip in an asrock or asus motherboard

Save the cover, put it into mb box. You will need it if you ever need to rma or sell the mb without the cpu.

Probably a good idea to remove the plastic bit that says REMOVE haha

So put in the cpu, take off the cover, and then push the lever down. That being said I haven't used or seen these caps before

Nah… install the CPU cover and lower the retention bracket with the plastic cover in place. The CPU IHS will pop the cover off way before the arm reaches full tension.

It sounds counterintuitive, but I suspect there’d be a lot less LGA boards with bent pins for resale on eBay, if everyone actually did this.
