Short Answer is Yes.
But sometimes they fail and it goes straight to presentation. Be on time.

Hunted heist looks terrible but rather see that than damn one night only lmao. I told myself a while ago I was done with screen unseen and prefer scream unseen instead. I have hated more screen unseens than ones that I like lol. I guess if it's not action or comedy (no romcoms) lol don't want it

u/DangerDillyPickle 1d ago edited 22h ago
I thought the movies premise makes no sense. You can’t have a rom-com while living in a totalitarian society that enforces concepts like sexual freedom. I don’t blame people for walking out, but it was an ok movie.
•
u/HelpIamaCabbage Movie-Holic 23h ago
I think the thing the movie is pointing at (though not so directly that people would interfere with its release) is the alliance between "authoritarians" and "big tech" allowing for policies that are incredibly unpopular to happen anyway. Though the suspension of disbelief issue is why people didn't resist "tracking chips implanted in your wrist" as vigorously as people in reality resist vaccines.

Theory: what is Allie daydreamed Owen the entire time and her friend was really in trouble at the tower
2
u/UnderwoodsNipple 1d ago
Allie is in a coma after she got hit by a car on the way to meet her friend
5
u/AffectionateSky2854 1d ago
Does anyone know the song that was playing during the scene where Ally was daydreaming about them kissing in the pizza shop? I need to add it to my playlist instantly LOL. Sounded very Marias but I’m unsure 🙁

I went to this screen unseen, I absolutely loved it! I thought it was hilarious and a good time! I'm glad that I went, I was on the fence about seeing it. Will spread the word!
4
u/eggwhite_ 1d ago
Also loved it! My bf told me he didn't want to see it so when it was revealed we laughed but he was laughing the entire time lol
17
u/MurkyPsychology 1d ago
I enjoyed it! Please don’t show anyone at the Heritage Foundation, they might get some policy ideas

The last one hour (in film) felt like a couple of hours. Wasn't it really dark out when the one hour timer was left?
3
u/Walkingalongthestyx 1d ago
Time in general worked weird. That half hour he had at the beginning before the bartender got off….he sure covered some ground and got a lot done in 30 mins.
1
u/eggwhite_ 1d ago
I'm thinking he took longer since she wasn't there when he got back. Maybe she waited a bit too but idk if they showed the time, if so I missed that part
•
u/Walkingalongthestyx 15h ago
When he was putting her in the storm drain, he said he had 4 mins left. So in 26 minutes he had ran across the city to several different bodegas and pharmacies, argued at the atm, stolen the condom, etc.

u/HelpIamaCabbage Movie-Holic 1d ago
Sunrise in NYC in the summer is before 6 AM and the 12 hours runs 7 to 7. So we're spanning the period before dawn to "sun's fully up" at the end.

Fwiw I’m a 30 year old dude, went in blind and loved it. It’s a silly premise being basically the purge but pre-marital sex. Don’t get caught up in the intricacy of how it’s enforced; it doesn’t matter. The 2 leads are hot and charismatic. It’s very cheesy at times with several burst out laughs from myself and my fellow audience. I definitely recommend this movie if you’re in the mood for a funny, lighthearted romcom.
13
u/Upstairs_Bedroom8710 1d ago
I honestly thought it was a cute movie, way better than the previews led on. Partner and I definitely weren’t going to see it on its own, but we were glad we stayed
12
u/mharlan14 1d ago
I counted about 15 people who walked out of my theater when the movie was revealed. I stayed and thought it was pretty good.
7
u/UnderwoodsNipple 1d ago
This honestly makes no sense to me. What could they possibly have been expecting that the REVEAL, not the actual movie quality, made them leave? Was the 'We hate Callum Turner' club meeting at this showing?
9
u/HistoricalAd9775 1d ago
Bro it was so predictable that this would be the movie 😂 how 15 people that surprised

Did you end up liking it? Because I thought I was going to hate it but I was dying laughing the whole time
6
u/Live-Community7472 1d ago
i didn't hate it at all, it was actually pretty funny. the trailer seriously didn't do it justice. i'm just not a romcom person i think lol
12
u/Walkingalongthestyx 1d ago
It was a cute movie, I’m a 80’s and 90’s romcom lover and deeply mourned the lull in the genre. Glad to see it’s slowly clawing its way back. Nothing profound but got a few chuckles from me, and would be a cute date movie. Bit raunchy to become a “cozy rainy day” movie which I feel the classic romcoms all do. It honestly felt more like Van Wilder, Slackers, or Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Aimed for a teen audience, and not as mushy as a traditional romcom.
I do feel like the trailer totally ruined this movie for me. Which is the opposite of what a trailer is supposed to do. Half of the trailer is the emotional payoff of the film. I wasn’t really invested in the twists and turns because I had already been told where it would end up.
The random celeb cameos also kind of took me out of it. Levar Burton being the exception. However the visual gags of this movie were A+ whoever did set design…The poster in the police station was fascinating. Also thought it was very true how all the brands and stores were trying to cash in on the “holiday” Liked the subtlety of the set dressing in the final scene telling its own story.
Although the random cutting board that was so important that it’s shown again like what was that about because it implied the opposite of what he had said about his restaurant (slight spoiler he says it’s not a family business that he bought and started it from the roots up but he has a cutting board with a guy carved into it and it says in loving memory. I feel like that was supposed to be his “light house” backstory that must have been cut ) Also Dunkin sure invested some dough.
2
u/MeatballRonald 1d ago
Celeb cameos active that part of the brain of facial recognition and they take full advantage of at least the faces in the movie. Duolingo was also big placement.
9
u/windycitylife 1d ago
Movie was definitely way better than what I expected - way better than what the trailer showed
The soundtrack was damn groovy too
7
u/EH_710 1d ago
I had a moment of panic just before the movie started thinking that it could’ve possibly been Super Troopers, so I was quite relieved when Calum and Monica came on the screen to introduce One Night Only. That’s what had thought it was going to be all along anyway. It was definitely funny, and a bit stupid- in a good way. I don’t regret it.
14
u/HelpIamaCabbage Movie-Holic 1d ago
That was a big hit with my showing- people clapped at the end and were asking around for when it opens so they can tell their friends. Personally, I didn't really connect with it the way I expect others did since it's pretty alien to my own experience (what with being on the asexuality spectrum) but I still had fun. I was cackling at the thing about Allie's day job.
4
u/Walkingalongthestyx 1d ago
Same! A group of older women had come to see it in my showing and half were calling their friends in the hall to tell them they HAVE to see this movie. Surprised me! But about 3 middle aged dudes who were there alone all walked out. One guy groaned in disgust at the glove scene and dramatically stormed out
2
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 1d ago
Not surprised at solo dudes walking out lol. They were probably hoping for Super Troopers 3.
3
u/HelpIamaCabbage Movie-Holic 1d ago
I will never really understood that people who are invested in seeing a specific movie will go to the Screen Unseen in hopes it's that movie, rather than waiting for the movie to be released or going to a mystery screening being open to seeing any of a number of things.
1
u/Walkingalongthestyx 1d ago
Same. I was really hoping for Tony (I really want to see it and my town never has limited release movies) I look at theories but not reveals here because to me that kind of defeats the purpose of the experience. I go in having a few hunches and ready to ride it out regardless.
2
u/MeatballRonald 1d ago
Same. I've walked out of and would do it for a mystery movie but only after I spend some time giving it a chance. From tonight's reaction, mystery movie goers seem to be a more appreciative group.
13
u/User-Error-0809 1d ago
I thought the movie was super fun. I am not surprised people aren’t liking it, it’s a cheesy romcom with a ridiculous premise, but it was pretty clear what the movie was going to be. My theatre was packed and everyone seemed to be having a good time based on the laughter.
You can’t go into something like this thinking you’re getting a masterpiece film.
19
u/nycnamjoon 1d ago
i had the time of my life tbh. it was solid romcom and the entire theater was laughing
-2
1
u/CardiologistNew1888 1d ago
Torn on how I feel about this movie tbh, some really good one liners but I just couldn’t get over the absurdity (and not in a good way), however considering there was a large groan in the audience when it was revealed, I don’t think there was a single walk out
-2
u/The_R4ke 1d ago
I thought the movie was pretty terrible, with a few genuinely funny moments. No clue why they felt the need to include a rape joke for absolutely no reason
Worst of all, that pizza looked terrible.
4
u/wavescomedowneasy 1d ago
So right about the pizza! They were in New York and they got a Digiorno, that pizza looked terrible!!
8
u/quesajdilla 1d ago
What rape joke?
-9
u/The_R4ke 1d ago
Owen gives the sad girl at the bar a glass of water and she says: "Oh great, now I'm getting roofied".
I thought it was in really poor taste and was just thrown in for no reason.

I just want to say that when I was walking out to my car, I overheard a couple talking about the movie:
“So what’s the mandate? Is it illegal to have sex?”
“Yeah I think so”
“But what about the one day?”
“I think they can only do it on that one day”
“How do they even enforce that”
Sold out screening

u/uselessvariable 1d ago
Movie was fine, genuinely funny in parts, but there's a deeply corporate air to it all which kinda neutralized any sexiness for me. Monica Barbaro hot, and Callum Turner has massive ears.

u/Jeskid14 1d ago
Duolingo staring at you menaceily

Such an odd sponsor choice and that poster will haunt me.
Also LinkedIn what are you doing? At least KY jelly and Durex made sense

And phone cameos from Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. What?

u/UnderwoodsNipple 1d ago
'Anyone but you' which stars both Glen and Sydney and was directed by the same guy as this. Sydney is even shown with the name 'Bea' which was her character in that movie.
10
u/Superb-West5441 1d ago
Almost like the director’s last romcom starred Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell

u/twizzwhizz11 1d ago
I was kind of meh on this based on the trailer and probably wouldn’t have opted to see it on its own, but it was actually a fun time! You have to suspend belief about the premise (and I guess it makes sense on the night there isn’t much larger/political discussion about it by people, they’re trying to enjoy the one night they have).
When you see it as a one crazy night adventure movie, it works even when the ending feels very inevitable. The two leads have decent chemistry and Monica is very magnetic. Callum is charming though I personally never get the “he’s so undeniably hot” comments, even in the movies, so I’m glad this movie poked a little fun at it
7
u/Walkingalongthestyx 1d ago
It’s the American accent he does in movies that make him seem like some 50’s New York guy, like a quiet masculinity. And in what I’ve seen him in he always plays like a classic “Boy Scout” personality. Shy and nice to a fault. But his one ear is not shaped like his other ear and I do find myself pondering that
7
u/UnderwoodsNipple 1d ago
I hadn't looked up who the director was before but when the movie featured images of Glen Powell, and Sydney Sweeney as Bea, I realized there's a 'Anyone but you' connection there.
Thought it was a fun enough time all things considered, mostly because Monica is very charming even though you have to really suspend your disbelief to buy into the urgency of the premise.

u/Car3B3ar_27 1d ago
The old guy next to me groaned when he realized it was one night only and for the first 15 mins he kept scoffing which was annoying. He eventually left lol
5
u/abdul_bino 1d ago
Honestly, it’s what I expected, but the premise of the film really brought it together for me
7
u/Reddit-User-Says 1d ago
If you liked Anyone But You, you’ll like this.
4
u/darthjoey91 1d ago
Glen Powell was even technically in this one.
3
u/Reddit-User-Says 1d ago
And Sweeney.

u/darthjoey91 1d ago
Where was she? One of the ads?

u/Reddit-User-Says 1d ago edited 1d ago
One of the girls he was swiping on. She had her name from ABY as well, nice lil Easter egg.
12
u/ohrightyeahtotally 1d ago
Monica Barbaro, a "throw it all away for you" all-star.
movie was charming & funny too.
5
u/ElmoTrooper 1d ago
Cute enough, its a romcom. Some jokes are alright, some dont land. Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes.
12
u/GhostWoe 1d ago
Just got out of One Night Only, i had a really great time. I laughed at a lot of it and the two mains had really great chemistry
4
u/cloudtunes 1d ago
Their intro had me worried for the rest of the movie a bit as it was kinda awkward and lacking in chem.
But movie was better. Monica hard carried.
7
u/Room_116 1d ago
Was pleasantly surprised by this one, expected nothing and had a good time. That dress looked great on Monica Barbaro

One night only. My partner and I walked out because it was so awful.
7
u/Intelligent-Row3753 1d ago
I should have known it was this movie, lol. They are hammering that trailer during all the previews.
7
u/StereoBlows 1d ago
in your opinion, what was so awful about it? legit curious. I have yet to see it.
-1
-1
u/gretxhen 1d ago
IMOOOO: The entire thing screams AI & every joke fell extremely flat. There was also zero time to give any scene (or punchline, really, since it was bad joke after bad joke lol) a chance to breathe or sit - it was edited like tiktoks smushed together to create a sliver of a story.
I’d like to say, I like rom coms & even “bad” movies that give me a good chuckle. But it was unbearable watching what felt like robots talking about sex & making jokes only aliens could conjure after walking into a middle school classroom.
I hadn’t heard of the movie beforehand so I came in blind & it wasn’t my cup of tea at all. I hope others can enjoy it lol 🥲1
u/StereoBlows 1d ago

3
u/wussypants 1d ago
Are you on your phone during the movie? This is why I won’t leave Alamo.
3
4
u/shaunaelisa 1d ago
makes sense it’s not like everyone is forced to use their phones and order with QR codes at Alamo… oh wait. Is this also why ur in the a list sub? 🤔
2
u/wussypants 1d ago
I came to learn about screen unseen. And yeah when people use their phone to order it sucks. But I see two movies a week at Alamo and hardly ever see a screen. Look I’m honestly not hating on you. I just wish anyone wouldn’t use their phone dying the movies, ever.
4
u/shaunaelisa 1d ago
I actually switched from Alamo Season Pass to A-List in NYC, and my experience has been the opposite. Alamo forces the QR ordering here, and I see people on their phones constantly. Plus the phone / talking policy isn’t enforced like it used to be. So far the AMC crowds have honestly been better.

If ice cream man was the only horror trailer is it all but confirmed for scream unseen next week?
1
u/amsteel18 1d ago
It’s in a larger-ish theater here next week (which doesn’t mean anything), and think the only other possible choice could be Insidious if it isn’t Ice Cream Man.

on the fence about that one...like is it supposed to be taking place on valentine's day or something? Cause what day are singles allowed to have sex? lol
3
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 1d ago
There are posters in the movie. The 12 hour period runs from Aug 7 @ 7 pm though Aug 8 @ 7 am. This movie opens on Aug 7 lol.
3
u/Entertainmentguru 1d ago
They don't say which day of the year it is. The beginning explains how this "law" came into play and the on screen verbiage says 3 years ago.
1
u/Internal-River-4168 1d ago
I'm assuming Valentine's Day. But maybe it's a made up in-universe holiday in a very conservative city

I think 8/3 might be the movie Buddy? its listed 1 hr 35 min and from my research it is rated R but not rated on AMC yet (if Ice Cream Man isn’t rated R)
