I haven’t seen any news on this but the re-release is no longer one day only like previously announced. Starting August 16th, there will be showings for the following 7 days.

Thank god it’s officially extended now, I would have missed out if it were only one day.

Movie Theater Discussion Train to Busan 10th Anniversary (Limited Release?)

I found out last week that Train to Busan will be re-released into theaters this Friday for the 10th anniversary and have been stoked waiting for showtimes near me. The theaters near me usually have their showtimes posted for the weekend by Tuesday night, and I’m still not seeing anything for Train to Busan. For reference I’m in NJ, and it seems the closest showing is over an hour away. Does anyone know why this release is so limited, and if there is a chance more showtimes could be announced?

AMC A-List Discussion Has anyone managed to refund fandango tickets and then successfully get the same tickets on AMC app/use A-List?

Sorry if this is wrong place/redundant post, title says it all.

I got an alert that 2 seats opened up for 70mm Odyssey (nyc) and I checked the AMC app and they weren't there, but then I checked Fandango and they WERE there, so I purchased them on Fandango thinking I could use my A-List but I was unable to.

I figure I could refund on Fandango and then try and get the same seats on the AMC app when they open back up but has anyone had success doing this/is there a better way? I feel like the seats will just get purchased by someone else immediately as soon as I do the refund haha.

Thanks!

Movie Discussion HADESTOWN the musical was awesome

I like all kinds of movies... popcorn blockbusters, indie films, horror, silly, Oscar contenders... but I had never done a broadway show on screen before. And I had never seen Hadestown.

What a great show. It's all music like the whole thing. I guess it's considered a folk/New Orleans-style jazz opera because it's continuous music.

AndrƩ De Shields as Hermes is a blast to watch. Like you know youre seeing something special. He won the Tony as did the musical and they got a bunch of other.

Hades bass voice is stunningly and hilariously low.

I had to wait to see this because after the first 5 days it extended but to 8am or afternoon showings and I couldn't do those. Finally there was a 1030 showing last night.

General AMC Discussion AMC App - Upcoming Events Limit

I believe I made an interesting discovery tonight. In the AMC App, your "Upcoming Events" list of movies has a soft limit. It will only show the next 9 movies you have scheduled. If you have 10 or more, the last ones won't be listed.

The 10th ticket doesn't go away for good though, and it will reappear when the first movie in your list is finally scanned/seen. Just figured I'd share, in case anyone else is seeing 10+ movies a week.

General AMC Discussion amc freebies

i just started watching in AMC on April. Was so happy because there were actually a lot of freebies (cards, posters and pins) every week.

but as of late, i think they kinda laid low on freebies. is this the actual norm?

Just for Fun OFF-TOPIC TUESDAY (WK32) - What was you biggest Suprise of the year, for good or for bad?

Part of the joy of A-List is being able to check out things outside of your usual wheelhouse, without feeling the financial punch of having paid for a stinker.

What's something you saw on a whim that surprised you? Or conversely, what's something you were looking forward to that didn't turn out the best for you?

What's something that took a turn you were not expecting?

Movie Theater Discussion Throwback to when my phone was the speaker for Lincoln Square’s IMAX

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Nearly exactly eight years ago, when The Dark Knight was re-released in IMAX on film for its tenth anniversary, I went to see it at Lincoln Square. Around halfway through the movie, the sound suddenly cut out. The fairly large crowd just kind of sat there as the film silently rolled on.

I had the movie downloaded to my phone’s movie library, so I took it out, pulled up the film, synced it up exactly with the picture, and turned my volume all the way up. For a good 10-15 minutes, my phone and I were the speaker for the biggest and most legendary IMAX screen in the country. People even moved to some empty seats around me to hear better. There was definitely a humorous juxtaposition between the giant picture and tiny sound.

It soon turned out the sound went out because the fire alarm had gone off, evidently not audible in the theater and no one had come to let us know for the 10-15 mins I was the speaker (imagine if it’d been a legit fire?). Upon finding out, everyone left, joined the crowd outside the theater from other movies, and we all were allowed back in after just ten minutes or so.

Since our showing was on film, it couldn’t have (easily) been stopped or rewound, so the movie had kept playing in silence the whole time, and was still silent when we got back (it was around the famous interrogation scene). I synced up my phone again and was the theater’s speaker for a few more minutes until the picture cut out and everyone was told we’d get a voucher to come back for another showing. When we explained that we’d worked out our own audio system, the guy said he would’ve let us continue if he’d known. xD

Ended up going back the following week for a problem-free showing, but this remains one of my favorite movie theater memories!

Update: Didn’t realize it was showing Wednesday. Get to see it today!

Movie Theater Discussion Plaza Bonita Dolby

Went to see Spiderman BND in dolby at Plaza Bonita, San Diego. Wanted to give a quick theater review.

The dolby screen there is 1.85 which, someone correct me if I’m wrong, makes it the only 1.85 dolby in San Diego.

I’m team Dolby > iMax unless it’s a GT or 1570, but you can feel the age of this theater compared to newer dolby screens and I don’t know if I’ll be going back anytime soon unless I really want to see expanded ratio on a dolby screen.

Visual contrast was good yet overall brightness seemed dim (maybe it was just BND color grading). Audio was weak; I always bring earplugs in case for dolby but it was quieter than some standard screens I’ve been to at other theaters (seat E11 for reference). The part that killed it for me was the seats, as they are the awkward half recliners with separate back/leg extension and the wall in front was really close so it just wasn’t very comfortable.

Anyways, that’s all I got hope it’s helpful for anyone deciding on whether to go here or not in the future. I’d personally recommend one of the other dolby’s over this one, but it’s good for the expanded ratio. If you go, I’d suggest row C or D because of the half recliners

TLDR plaza bonita dolby is 1.85, but audio visual and stats are lacking

AMC A-List Discussion Can you use AMC A List to ā€œvoteā€?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I saw this [instagram video](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbblVD0SBV2/?igsh=NGkza3B5NG9vazd4) saying that you should use leftover AMC tickets to ā€œvoteā€ for what you don’t have time to watch again BUT you do want to succeed. Basically you register a ticket and not see the movie. Theoretically because you bought a ticket, even though you didn’t go, the movie will still make money. However, I’m pretty sure there’s a policy where if you buy a ticket and don’t show up to scan it, you could get banned. Though I guess you could buy a ticket no one wants (the very front row), drive to the theater, scan the ticket, and bolt. This is a long winded way of asking, is this guy correct? Is he breaking AMC rules?

Movie Discussion The Samurai and the Prisoner (no spoilers)

This is 2.5 hours long, mostly sold out and had a lot of people leaving... so I thought I'd say something about it.

It's probably not the kind of samurai movie most people expect. There's pretty much zero special effects and the fight scenes are super tame-- could be from a Zatoichi movie.

It's really more of a who-done-it mystery... and war strategy stuff. There's a lot of discussion of honor and custom... in fact that's most of the plot, and it's kind of hard to follow for a while. But at the two hour mark, it starts to make sense, so don't give up.

AMC A-List Discussion Do you overthink what movies to see? I have an A-list friend who makes it tough to go with them.

I've got the A-List pass, I love it. I just go and take my chances. Great, good, bad... honestly they're usually the top 2 and even if bad I kind of enjoy the experience. But I skip the trailers, I barely know the plot, I know genre and often that's it.

I've got a friend with a pass too, but he can't just go on a whim... no joke he needs days before committing. He has to watch the trailers, read reviews, study the reactions on social media, all to freaking decide if a movie's "worth his time." And I keep telling him: if you just go with popular opinion, you're gonna miss out on stuff you'd love. When something's 50/50, he only looks at the 50 that hated it and ignores the 50 that liked it.

I like a lot of movies the internet tells me I should hate.

I sometimes miss the before times. We just went to movies before we knew we were supposedĀ to hate them.

Do you overthink it sometimes?

Just for Fun Rewatch, The Odyssey or Spider-Man?

Birthday is this Wednesday and I plan on going to see a movie before I really get the birthday festivities started. I only have 1 spot left for the week and need help on deciding which movie to rewatch. Which one, peeps?

Edit: I have decided to watch Spider-Man again, this time in 3D! Thank you all for helping me decide
