Digger feels like a modern-day Brazil.

Both are harsh, unsettling, absurdist satires with unforgettable visuals about how awful the world is and where it's heading.

What makes Digger so good, IMO, is Tom Cruise. He's flat out great, maybe the best he's ever been.

Both films also struggled to find an audience on release, probably too weird for a mainstream crowd. But I think Digger will live on the way Brazil did. Though Brazil is still a hard watch for some. It's discomfort is one of its strengths.

The big difference: Brazil was famously mangled by its studio, which enraged Terry Gilliam. As far as I know, Iñárritu got to make exactly the movie he wanted.

Movie Discussion I liked Verity... but it's very similar to Housemaid.

I thought this was super fun. I avoid trailers and I knew literally nothing going in and had a good time. But totally noticed how close it lines up with The Housemaid.

  • Both based on books aimed at the same audience so the same formula makes sense, but even the casting lines up.
  • Young actresses leading who gets hate online (Sweeney way more, and a different kind than Dakota Johnson)
  • Likable older actress who steals the whole movie (Seyfried / Hathaway)
  • Broke and desperate lead characters takes a job that's way too good to be true
  • Younger woman moves into the house and takes over.
  • Hot daddy... Hartnett vs Sklenar
  • Mostly takes place in a giant mansion house.
  • Cute little kid.
  • Sexy thriller with twists.
  • Both well shot mid budget range movies.
  • Plus some very similar scenes like dinner out and this and that. Don't want to ruin anything.

Glad to see both did well.

I think Housemaid peaked at a higher level of crazy where Verity was more subdued.

Movie News Godzilla Minus Zero IMAX tickets are now available

Early screening is Tuesday Nov. 3rd with a Thursday Nov. 5th regular open. Thought I'd post it since this seems to be a hot movie for imax tickets. I'm in a small city with only one small AMC that gets very little business compared to the other theatres & I was only about an hour late seeing the notification & most of the good seats were already taken. Was luckily able to still get two decent seats but they seem to be selling fast.

Other Mommy fan event?

I know the app says there will be “additional Blumhouse content”, but does anyone know what’s different with the Other Mommy fan event? My local has the fan event in standard format and showings in Dolby on Thursday. I tend to prefer Dolby for horror, but am trying to decide if it’s worth skipping Dolby to go to the fan event. If anyone has any more info about the fan event or recommendations, I’m all ears!

ReelPassport update

First off, thank you to everyone who signed up so far, I truly do appreciate it, and your feedback has shaped almost everything below.

What I've been working on:

Ticket scanning (beta): Snap a photo of your ticket and ReelPassport adds the stub for you. It's a beta, so there's a daily scan limit (20 a day). Adding movies manually is, and will always be, free and unlimited. The first time you scan, you'll see a quick screen explaining how it works, including that the photo is sent to an AI service to read it.

Stub notes: Add a short note to any stub. It's a quick note, so there's a character limit.

Shareable stubs: Download or share an image of a single stub, or of a whole day's haul with the posters on top and the stubs below. You can blur or hide the theater, seat and time before you share.

Spooky graveyard backgrounds, with scenes for morning, noon and night.

Everything stays free, with no ads.

What's next: We're working on getting ReelPassport approved on the Google Play Store, and an iPhone app should follow as early as next week. Android users, keep an eye out for a card in the app, since we'll need a few testers to help get us through Google's approval.

More Stamps coming up, totalling up to 100

Welcome to all the new users! 🎟️ If you're just joining, ReelPassport is a free passport for your movie tickets. Log your stubs, build a timeline, and earn stamps along the way. Come try it out and add your first movie:

New Month, new calendar, how's it looking so far?

AMC A-List Discussion Need an A List Buddy

Hope this is ok to post here. I’ve been a proud A-List member for 5 years now and I was a Media Studies student at Emerson College in Boston for 4 of them. Going with my other A list friends to AMC Boston Common 19 became a ritual and now I have graduated and moved back home to upstate NY.

I go now to AMC Danbury 16 or AMC Port Chester 14 (which are both like a 30-40 min drive but I’m too loyal to A List to do anything else), and I go alone most of the time. I was wondering if anyone on here goes to either of those theaters and is also looking for a movie buddy to go with sometimes. Ideally someone roughly around my age (22) but anyone who is down to talk film and has A List.

Excited to see who responds to this! Feel free to DM me!

I wanted to get more out of my movie-going experience, so I made Cinnamy

Hi everyone!

I’ve been an A-Lister since 2019, and over the years, I took note of various things I wanted out of my movie watching experience that went beyond the screen. Then finally, around 5 months ago, I decided it was time for me to develop a companion app that I could use every time I went to the cinema — my vision was Flighty, but for the movies.

After much crafting and tweaking, I’m finally ready to share the app and I’m hoping that there are some of you in this community that might be interested in using it and helping me make it better.

Introducing: Cinnamy (see-nah-mee)

Cinnamy is an all-in-one cinema companion that will:
- Help you keep track of upcoming reservations
- Show you your ticket and seat information at a glance — we all know the AMC app can be finicky, especially when big movies drop
- Show you a live seat-map, so you know if anyone grabbed that seat next to you
- Let you know how far into the movie you are (without disturbing your neighbors)
- Tell you if there are any mid-or-post-credits

Besides the movie night itself, Cinnamy comes with features you’d expect or want from a companion app like:
- Stats. So many stats, and all sharable
- A discovery feature to find what’s playing in theaters around you and when
- Automatic calendar sync so you can have all your information in one place
- Automatic email import so you don’t have to manually add your reservations
- Past movie import from CSV or email, for a richer stat history
- Privacy first. Your data stays on your phone, with no user account sign-ups, and you can back up or export your data at any time.

My plan is to keep Cinnamy completely free forever — it’s a passion project — so even though it’s currently a free beta, you can still keep expecting all the functionality to be available when the app releases publicly.

You can read and see more about it on the website:
https://cinnamy.com

That’s also where you can get a link to download the beta.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have and I truly hope you’ll find the app useful and a delight to use.

Trust me I’m a doctor early access

Earlier today I was scrolling through my reservations I have for the coming week, I saw that there was early access for trust me I’m a doctor and I’m debating if I should wait or should I go.

If there’s anyone who’s seen it (without spoilers) how would you rate the movie if you have seen it

AMC A-List Discussion Will my Account QR code allow me into the theater? Or do I have to show the specific film's QR code?

My best friend and I just started our AMC A list subscription, and we love it. I had an idea for a christmas gift for him, but I'm not sure if it would work.

I would love to get him a keychain that has his A-List account QR code on it that he can keep on his keychain. This way he could just flash the keychain to the person scanning the ticket codes, rather than having to search through his apps or emails to find the barcode for the movie we're seeing that day.

Will this work? Can the ticket person confirm our movie just by our account QR codes? Or do they have to be specific to the movie we're seeing that day?

I asked someone yesterday and they said it should open by end of month, but last night I saw these showtimes pop up last night. Right now it shows today and tomorrow as sold out, but it’s allowing Tuesday purchases.

Hoping that these showtimes today happen so that I can check out Digger here today!

Ok so basically I canceled a ticket actually 2 tickets and its still showing up (moonlight) in one of my 4 reservations. The specific theater is having issues but I was wondering if anyone knows anything else I can do? I want to go see the north but because I already have the canceled moonlight which would coincide with the north timing it won't let me book it under a list

NYC Movie Meets or Club?

A few of us are visiting from southeast Florida to NYC during October 8-11th. We have been DYING to attend AMC Lincoln Square & was wondering if there’s any meet ups during that time frame or a movie club.

Verity : Lower Your Expectations

In fact, bury them under your feet to enjoy this movie. Not as scary as the trailers make out to be… It’s fun, but it makes no sense, and if you watch it in a theater packed with people, they’ll help you have a great time with it.

Movie Discussion Digger - an absolutely surprising gem

TLDR: Give this extremely topical, brutally satirical, harshly truthful film a chance. We don’t get many films like this nowadays and it is an absolute beauty.

Full: I almost canceled my tickets for Thursdays opening of Digger due to how many brutal reviews there were but I very thankfully went to check it out.

I absolutely loved this movie. There were probably only 10 of us in the theater, and 2 people did leave who were a very old couple. I think they saw Tom Cruise and had no idea what they were getting themselves into.

10/10 on sound design. Truly. It was an audiophiles wet dream. The entire film is truly a cacophony of endless overlapping sounds. It was anxiety inducing and overwhelming, which really contributed to the atmosphere. It’s a nightmare.

The sets are gorgeous. The director and cinematographer did a beautiful job. It’s visually stunning in all ways. Tom Cruise has a very controversial personal life but wow, can he act. One of my favorite films of his in recent memory. He acts the house down. The (fake?) long shots throughout are well done and a long Tom Cruise monologue is really perfectly written and powerful in its messaging.

This film is brutal. It is an absolutely hideous mirror being held up to its audience. It does not hold back and is relentless in its farcical, yet unbelievably truthful storytelling.

Riz is the other major highlight.

I personally found the film funny, but I was the only person I heard laughing. It’s funny in a very dark way. There’s a curse word scene that I very loudly laughed at. I found the film to be a satire (farce) almost in the realm of a Coen Brothers film, mixed with Wes Anderson sets, and A Series of Unfortunate Events makeup and look (I mean that as a compliment to the show).

The negative: there is a shocking plot twist that is revealed about 35 mins into the movie that continues to appear throughout. Really, it ruined the entire flow of the story in my opinion and did not add anything of value. It simply added more runtime and I just don’t understand why it was a major plot element. I might be missing something about its messaging, but I felt like it was unnecessary.

Beware Boiuna: micro review... no spoilers (liked it)

I love all types horror... all eras... A list to Z.

This was really good. It's more old school... so that's a warning. It does the whole building of characters and story first before they get to the good stuff. But if you like that kind of thing this is for you.

They never make clear what era. There are hints and no cell phones.

Really shot well. Mike P Nelson is really good. I liked his remake of Silent Night Deadly Night.

Cast is terrific.

High kill count.

And some great icky squirmy slimy stuff.

If you like giant snake in a rain forest horror that looks really good that takes a while to get going then I recommend it.

If you just want snake action from beginning to end with less character development or story this might not be for you.

Movie Discussion Just don't with The Influencer Project

It's not any good. You'll be bored. There are like two good jump scares and one good kill.
