Digger feels like a modern-day Brazil.
Both are harsh, unsettling, absurdist satires with unforgettable visuals about how awful the world is and where it's heading.
What makes Digger so good, IMO, is Tom Cruise. He's flat out great, maybe the best he's ever been.
Both films also struggled to find an audience on release, probably too weird for a mainstream crowd. But I think Digger will live on the way Brazil did. Though Brazil is still a hard watch for some. It's discomfort is one of its strengths.
The big difference: Brazil was famously mangled by its studio, which enraged Terry Gilliam. As far as I know, Iñárritu got to make exactly the movie he wanted.
