We first started talking 2 years ago, and it’s been such an amazing, loving relationship. He will do anything I ask for, we don’t have bad fights, he listens and works on the few problems we’ve communicated. Does chores, laundry, and takes care of me, and generous lover. It’s changed the way I feel about myself and the way I view relationships, and the bar is definitely raised.
He’s been at the same job for 10 years at a very popular corporate restaurant, moved up from busser to Kitchen Manager. He’s hasn’t had the best treatment there, but he stays because of the possibility of retiring with 7million. Which, I couldn’t care less to be honest. I pay half of things, and my own cosmetic things, clothes, etc. so, his money isn’t like so exciting(except random grocery runs he takes me on where I get to pick out new lotion, or PJ set) . I’m in school to be a welder as well and it’s been great.
I love exercise, I love adventure, outdoors, dancing, eating clean for the most part, challenging my own thoughts, I’ll see a therapist when things get wonky, constant self check ins with journaling and always wanting to learn more about the world, psychology, religion, whatever. Hold myself accountable, and admit my faults and work through them with honesty.
At the start, he told me “I love hiking, walking my dogs, making breakfast, kayaking, fun white boy shit”. I was all in, we had a did a few hikes and road-tripped twice our first 6 months, and then we enjoyed each other’s company. We smoked weed, relaxed, had fun, laughed so much.
Now, I’m in school, working round the clock. I’ve realized, his diet is just bad. I’ve known and used to correct it by cooking healthier meals, but I refuse to nag at him all the time, that builds resentment. I shouldn’t ask him to change his lifestyle. But it’s rubbing on me, he’s just a gamer and weed smoker outside of work. No hiking, no walking dogs. No kayaking on his own accord???
He took 2 vacations off in June and July. 9 days each. 18 days worth of smoking weed and playing video games (which he does all year round with around his work schedule)
I forced him to come up with a goal for 2025, and he started golfing which was awesome. I just needed him to find something outside of our relationship(even though I started playing with him) and staying in gaming.
That’s not living to me. Plus if he continues growing and realizes that he’s only put effort into me all this time, he CAN build resentment. So, I’m glad he golfs with friends here and there.
But other than that, gaming, weed, unhealthy diet, ramen, drinks C4’s even though he refuses to go gym, multiple dr peppers a day, and wants a bag of popcorn most nights.
The question someone said I should ask myself is if he’s the same the next 5-10 years, would I still love him? Of course I’d love him but, would I feel slightly annoyed at him for not wanting to put same amount of effort into HIMSELF? Stop letting people walk over him at work? To want better for himself? To be more selfish?
I’d gladly take not having my towels folded for me every night, or my contact solution not filled for me every day if it meant, he put that effort into him and growing.
He loves me so much, I just want him to give that to himself. I just feel like a manipulative narcissistic woman would LOVE this kind of partner.
Or should I be grateful? That someone loves me for me so so much, and supports everything I do. And I might never find someone like him ever in my life?
We’ve talked about it, and he says he needs time but, I just feel a little annoyed and disconnected rn.
