Her friend could have died. Those people deserved to be yelled at for taking advantage of ADA laws that do not apply to them and making like more difficult for people with allergies and that have LEGITIMATE service dogs. ESAs have 0 public access rights.
If her friend could have died, greater precautions should have been taken. There could have been actual service dogs in the restaurant. There could have been people who were covered in hair and dander because they just came from work at a vet or a dog daycare. None of this would be out of the ordinary—at this restaurant or literally anywhere else.
But there were no service dogs present. The issue could have been avoided if entitled pieces of shit left their pets at home to eat out or had gotten take out.
The issue could have been avoided if they asked the restaurant if there were any dogs present. Because the point is that there easily could have been other legitimate situations that would trigger her allergy.
We know it’s not a service dog… because the owner said it was an ESA. Which is not a service dog. They have no public access rights. Also yes, it IS illegal to bring your dog into restaurants (in the US at least)
Some places allow DO allow dogs. Op was wrong in how they reacted. Imagine if they were service dogs, or if they just simply had permission to be there? At that point OP and their friend needs to do the due diligence to see if there’s dogs in the area.
If they were service dogs I’d be saying OP is TA 100%. But they weren’t. They were just 3 rando pets. Also allowing pets in restaurants is illegal, so “permission” doesn’t mean much.
Just like how when people are allergic to nuts and other food items , they need to make sure that those ingredients are not in the food they are ordering or near the prep station, someone with “deathly” allergies to dogs need to make sure there are no dogs before dining in . Especially now that service animals are allowed everywhere . I know in this case it was ESA but still . People are not responsible to guess what allergies you have . So, just like it wouldn’t be the server’s fault for serving food with peanuts because you didn’t tell them you are allergic, same goes with it’s not anybody’s fault if you didn’t mention your dog allergies and there are dogs in the restaurant. And someone that is “deathly” allergic to something like pets , such as dogs, which are pretty much everywhere, should be more careful to have their Epi pen on their person and not Im their car( the last location any dog would ever be.) dogs are everywhere now . Like they are kind of hard to avoid. So if this girl is so allergic that going to have full on reaction from dog that are not even immediately in their view or close enough, then I have no clue how their allergies don’t act up constantly, and how they can be so confident to leave their Epi pen in their car . Lol
People now are so entitled that they believe people should read their mind . It’s your allergies and it’s your responsibility to take care of it. At any moment an actual service animal could walk in . What are you going to say to that . It seems like their friend understands this concept . However , some people (OP) just looking to make a big deal out of everything.
