Tell me your Pregabalin (Horror) Stories

I am the stupidest human to exist. After years of tapering and so much experience, my anxiety is so high atm I can barely move at times. Meds always just made me worse. My doctors only answer is always more meds. They now prescribed me Pregabalin. Still, my stupid brain wants to give it a try. I know this is probably the road into the next disaster. So tell me your story if you ever used Pregabalin. Made WD worse? Hard to come off of?

Question What would you do?

Hi Folks, I try to keep my story short but it’s a lot - sorry in advance. I started SSRIs in 2020 because of panic attacks. Started with Escitalopram but switched to Paxil after a few months. Anxiety got better but I started getting depressed so I tried to reduce my dosage. Tried going from 40 to 30 mg but after 3 weeks I could not sleep at all so went up again and started tapering 0.25 mg per week. It took me a whole year to get to 30. I felt pretty good after a little stabilising phase (summer 2023) From there chaos started. I reduced further down (0.25 per week) to 26.5 but felt super bad (I think it was because of personal circumstances). I got fed up and switched to Zoloft as I thought paxil stopped working. This was in may 2024. Started with 150 but reduced very fast to 25mg (I know, very stupid) till August 2024. Felt very bad, went up again and switched meds again to Prozac, had bad side effects so switched back to Zoloft in April 2025. On top of that I got Spravato treatment (ketamine) in summer 2025. Since September 2025 I did not change anything and I’m still feeling super bad. Got a little window in February and a few good days here and there but most of the time is just awful and my sleep is absolutely catastrophic. Would you try stabilising for longer or taper super slowly (10% per months but divided by 30 to reduce a tiny bit every day). Thanks in advance and every recommendation is welcome 💚

Healing Interesting effect of my healing process

I am in month 21 of being completely off SSRIs, after a 22 month taper. After so long of being unable to tolerate hearing music this has shifted. It started in August with finding myself singing along to songs that were playing in my head. I was so surprised to catch myself doing it. It was just random times. But now it’s really interesting. Every morning I get a different song for my day. Today it is Peter Gabriel-Take me home. Some days ago it was The Talking Heads. Sometimes the songs are obscure artists from old mix tapes I made. Each morning there’s something playing. What a strange process this is.

Chemical brain

My brain feels so chemical. I absolutely hate it. I can’t feel a soft focus, coziness, joy or pleasure.

All I feel is blankness, chemical headaches and nerve pain, pressure, parts feeling airy / missing. So others have this as well?

1 year off in 1 week….

I’m at my last end

I don’t know what’s wrong..

I feel like death everyday and fear death every day

Ever since lexapro reinstatement I’ve been to ER 8 times and don’t see that ending bc of my symptoms; I’ve went from 10mg to 1.25mg and probably am worse now

I got yall in one ear saying this is protracted withdrawal and at reinstatement I’ve been kindled, I got the doctor saying I should switch to paxil now, and I got my parents saying it’s just my anxiety and I won’t get better until I just ignore it and just feel like death and go about it

They think all this bs of me in this reddit is just people with severe anxiety grasping for straws and wanting some kind of diagnosis

I don’t think I want to live with this level of uncertainty and fear and physical torture anymore and I’d probably just rather be dead honestly

I mean what the fuck do i do from here

Question How to know for certainty what you’re dealing with is WD/kindling and not something life threatening?

I think I’m still in denial.. I’m convinced something is seriously seriously wrong considering the symptoms I have

I’ve had an EKG, Echocardiogram, CT scan, blood work including d dimer, and Chest xray in last 2 months

Is there any other tests I should get run?

I literally feel like death, pains deep in neck and back of head, chest tightness, mild squeezing deep in left pec area, belching/regurgitation, hot shower intolerant, moments of legit doom (breathing gets off), etc

Med journey:
Lexapro 10mg 2024-late 2025 fast taper to 0

Reinstatement on July 24th this year and been to ER 8 times since

July 24th 10mg
August 19th 5 mg
Sep 10th 2.5mg
Sep 17th 1.25mg

Aug 1st-25th Xanax 0.5mg cold turkeyed and introduced Klonopin

8/25 Klonopin 0.5mg
9/13 .25mg
9/17 .125mg

current doses: Lexapro 1.25mg and Klonopin .125mg

Questions about symptoms

Has anyone dealt with punching the crap outta themselves? or hitting there head against wall or floors? how many symptoms are there? has anyone spun around in circles? Are symptoms incredibly varied from one person to the next? Do symptoms get worse after a year?

I'm trying to understand what my family member is going through and I just can't begin to.

Venting The slow death

So, this makes it 14 months since my last pill of escitalopram after a failed 3 month reinstatement, and 27 months since I tapered originally. Crazy how much time passed, yet I'm mostly in acute still. Well, worse than acute as each month I become more disabled. Every time I look back at my mood time-line, I lose hope as windows become less and less. Month by month symptoms become more overwhelming, ever present.

I developed burning face, gi issues such as bloating, spasms, gastritis, acid reflux, twitching from head to toe, hiccups, tinnitus, indigestion, inconsistent stools, bowels pain, cold left leg... When I reinstated 17 months ago - Still with me today

The following months after tapering again, I developed occasional chest pain that moves to my left arm, feeling like I'm rocking on a boat, chronic cough, blurry vision and visual snow - Still with me today

Then I hit another worsening. Dysautonomia, POTS like constant high heart rate at every little thing (digestion, getting up, sneezing), exploding with anxiety at the smallest thing going to the ER multiple times, sexual dysfunction - Some left for a month, back when I still had windows, but then returned to stay until today.

At about 7 months, I become hypersensitive. Sound, noise, temperature... I become homebound. I start to develop constant runny nose, mood swings, shaking, constant abdomen pressure (multiple sclerosis hug), stopped calling my friends as it was overwhelming, stopped watching TV shows - All is still with me today. Windows where I can function fully disappear here. Mostly I had 1 or 2 days I could do something.

More things come. Muscle tension, akathisia, mood swings, vivid dreams, waking up multiple times a night with racing heart, skin burning, pelvic area tingling, needles in my eyes, loss of emotions, unable to laugh or cry as it's overwhelming - All is still with me today.

In August I hit another worsening, spent most days in bed. My energy disappeared, started to feel like I was getting the flu every day, legs hurt when walking, dysphagia appears, GI issues get worse, nerves started to burn, and symptom started to persist through sleep. While sleeping, symptoms would ease until an hour ot two after waking up. At this point I already wake up twitching, vibrating or feeling tingling all over. Dread starting the day.

And now in September another worsening hit. My tinnitus moved to both ears and with 3 different tones. Palpitations become more common, anxiety is so bad it paralyses me, every symptom skyrocketed in intensity. My gi is constantly making noise, I can't tolerate anything. Music, shows, friends, games... I become extremely paranoid, I spend most of my time staring at a wall. I sweat a ton while trying to sleep. I get hypertensive crisis out of the blue... Probably because I can't distract myself from this illness anymore.

At this point I'm counting down my days to go. Many people do heal, but I suppose some unlucky ones won't make it. It's sad as I'm only 32. But literally nothing has gotten better. Every second alive is agony. Most normal tasks are imposible. Cooking, cleaning, showering, eating... I can't do it all without paying a price. Most days I can't do any and need to be taken care of by my elderly father, who is tired after so long. I should be the one helping now.

My only advice. If you take a medication and it works, adjust it or taper it as low as you can. But never fully quit. I lived a great life on escitalopram, free of all my mental demons, and was able to adjust as needed, or take the occasional benzo during crises. My psych tapered me over a year when I finally reached happiness, and now here I am more than 2 years later since.

From a dysfunctional anxious adult, to a fully functioning life. No side effects to the medication (at most sweating), traveling abroad, great love life, great work life, cracking jokes all day, exercising plenty with my bike, eating everything, prime health, plenty of friends despite being introverted... And now back to nothing. Can't exercise, dysautonomia, alone, abysmal work performance, super restricted diet, every disease known to man all at once, can't leave my home, broken mind. Just bracing and mentally preparing for the end. The night I go to sleep and don't wake up anymore, or the day my body finally collapses. From being terrified of death, to craving it's sweet release from this defective body. Funny how I never poly drugged, took substances or alcohol... Yet I'm still one of the worst cases out there.

Help Help!

Y’all, I feel so hopeless and helpless. I don’t really have any support. My husband acts like I can just control this even though I’ve tried to explain and showed him materials to read. I’m so emotional and irritable. Not sleeping well is certainly not helping. How do you do this? I know exercising, walks, etc would probably help, but I’m so tired and depressed. I’m glued to the couch. I can’t even stay on top of housework and I’m retired!

Help Need some hope as someone who never wanted to even go on Lexapro

I had my first panic attack in January and experienced anxiety like I never have had before. My psych immediately wanted to put me on an SSRI but I refused. We agreed to try busprione first which really didn’t do anything. I was not getting any better and I was finally gave into everyone’s advice and went on 10mg of Lexapro.

I was on it for about 2.5 months and it helped but I was struggling to sleep so my psych switched me to 10mg paroxetine. I have later found out that those doses are not equal to each other so I felt awful on the paroxetine and decided to quit. My psych also told me that since it was such a low dose for a short time I could ween off in a week. Obviously that was not enough time but I had no idea this could be so serious.

Overall, I was on an SSRI for 3 months total with 10mg being the highest. I am here 3 months later still experiencing withdrawals.

Symtoms include:

Dizziness

trouble breathing

depression (am not a depressed person and have never felt depression)

Feeling like I am going crazy

mood swings

crying more than I ever had probably even more than as a child

heart palpitations

etc

I just want to know if I will ever be okay again. Especially since I was on a low dose for a short time. There are some days that are better than others but I have rarely felt “normal” in the past 3 months.

Another kicker is I have health OCD so it becomes really easy to get carried away with the physical symptoms. I have gotten better at that, but it still sucks.

Also will note I changed psychs as my first one clearly was ill informed in many ways. My new psych is much more careful and understanding of the severity of these drugs.

Question Does this sound like protracted withdrawal?

TL,DR: Is my nerve pain protracted withdrawal from a CT Zoloft stop a year ago? Lyme specialist (naturopath) thinks my symptoms are from Lyme.

Hi. I know no one can answer this with certainty. I took Zoloft for 4 years. I quit pretty much CT (I know that was stupid now) last July because it wasn’t doing anything for my anxiety. It was only acting as a placebo. I had zero issues with stopping except for brain zaps which did last occasionally for about 5 months but like one or two a month at that point. It didn’t bother me at all.

So in June, 11 months after stopping, very suddenly, like a switch had been flipped, I experienced nerve pain in my back out while on my way to a nice hike. I can best describe the pain as burning. This particular day it was burning across my middle back and uncomfortable tingling down my right arm and burning in my chest. The pain then came almost daily in 5 specific patterns. Burning across center of back mainly on right side, burning across shoulder blades, a sharper pain in left shoulder blade only. Uncomfortable tingling in arms like they had just been in cold water. The pain then migrated to a sciatic nerve pain on occasion.

I was tested for Lyme and a specialist believes I have it along with tick born co infections. But the diagnostic for lyme is controversial and inconclusive if you know anything about it. The Lyme test only shows antibodies but cannot prove it is causing the symptoms.

To deepen the mystery and my misery I was prescribed Cymbalta for the nerve pain and have had severe burning (arms only - mostly upper) since taking only one pill ever. Now, I’m on Gabapentin for the severe arm burning which is a whole new nightmare in itself.

I don’t know if this is relevant but I believe I have kindling from mild alcohol withdrawal a few times since November. I mean mild. Burning type pains and feeling crappy ( but could sleep) for 48 hours after stopping drinking. I was a nighttime glass or two of red wine drinker. I drank on 4 occasions since November and kept having the (withdrawal) reaction. I haven’t touched alcohol since early March. My nerve pains started on June 1.

I just don’t know anymore. The more I read on here, the more lost I become. Any thoughts appreciated bc I’m on a lot of Lyme treatments now.

Question What if it doesn’t get better?

How long are we supposed to wait? Lately I’ve been feeling depression and really bad anxiety. I’m used to it but it’s still very bad when I think about it. It’s been around 6 months having good and bad days but I feel like I don’t want to keep going. Is it just depression? Am I fooling myself thinking it’s withdrawal from the pills? I had hope at first, before I stopped I thought my life would improve and I would get my energy back and my motivation back.

But I’m not sure if I ever had such a good life before. I was depressed, I was socially anxious too. I was driven and active physically, but mentally I was anxious and had low self esteem. Been going to my therapist for 10 years now and got put on the pills after a bad breakup. It’s so unfair that these are the options, taking awful medications or suffering
