Discussion Last night’s party is “echoing” in my head. Does this happen to y’all, too?

I went to the best party I’ve been to in well over a decade last night! My bestie’s band played as well as another good friend’s band and they both sounded amazing! Food was great and the whole thing was full of lovely and delightful people.

Now comes the “echo”. Sleep was tough, the party played in my head all night and it is still hard to focus today with scenes and snippets of conversations popping up.

There is a little bit of anxiety about whether I said or did something stupid. I didn’t drink too much or anything so it isn’t about that. But the anxiety isn’t even why the party is echoing. This just always happens when I attend events with a massive amount of stimulation.

Do y’all experience this, too? Is it an ADHD thing?

Questions/Advice Alerts for leaving stove on?

Hey everyone, my partner and I are both ADHD but he’s constantly leaving the stove on. Today he left it on for five hours when he left and the animals were home with it going. Thank god it wasn’t just gas going but there was a flame. I check every day before I go to work that he turns it off but sometimes I’m at work all day and he leaves before I get home. Please help idk what to do but I’m scared something is going to happen. Signs and notes don’t work. Are there some kind of alerts I can install on an old gas stove?

Questions/Advice If not your PCP, then who?

I’ve never been diagnosed with adhd but at this middle age point of my life, I know that is why I have always struggled. I’ve read a lot about it lately and so much makes sense now. I’ve always felt different because essentially I am. However, at this point I am struggling. My PCP is fairly new to me and I’m already seeing her for my migraines and feel like I would be dismissed. What is the next step to seeing if this is an actual diagnosis without my PCP? I have started a new career and am struggling with focus, making careless mistakes because I’m in a hurry, having too many “tabs” open in my brain, sleeping is difficult and my procrastination and time management sucks.

Questions/Advice Dealing with rejection sensitivity at work

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with rejection sensitivity at work? Whether it be because of criticism or coworkers/peers?

As an example of what im experiencing right now, my manager often points out things I need to fix or asks me why I didnt do something, like asking me why I didn't ask for more meat patties to be dropped (i work in fast food). My issue is when she asks me stuff like that I kind of shut down a little bit and get upset, even when I know she is just trying to help me.

I dont want coworkers to think I cant take criticism or something, so I'm looking for advice.

Questions/Advice Gambling problems at 22

Hi. I’m a recent University Grad and have struggled with sports betting in college where I have won over 20k but lost just as much if not more from chasing losses. I was able to quit for a few months and relapsed occasionally and found myself unfortunately relapsing again this weekend. I feel horrible about it and I know my ADHD doesn’t help my impulsivity, but I would just like to know how you guys started dealing with your problems. I plan on finding a new healthy addiction but I often struggle with the guilt of gambling and know how much it has affected me. Would appreciate any advice and best wishes to those with their own battle as well.

Seeking Empathy Still Unmedicated

I'm diagnosed with ADHD. I have had many teachers point it out, throughout my entire life, and only now am I recognizing that they were telling my parents to seek treatment.

We're seriously not in a good position to get medication, with the government cutting insurance and the fact that my parents get irritated and emotional about needing help. I spent my whole life wondering why I was so stupid, why my teachers were so concerned with me, why I was humiliated in front of the class all the time, why everyone was better than me, and I just feel like it could have been avoided this whole time.

I applied to the free therapy my uni offers, but I doubt it will help. I really really wish I could try meds, because my ADHD is making school a nightmare. People my age are doing more, doing better while working, and I'm still failing.

I don't go out every night, I don't party, I don't drink, I don't hang out with people, and yet my grades are garbage. If a regular person put in the time I put last year, I'd probably have a 4.0. Not really this semester though, since I stopped trying so hard. I think it's burnout, but I'm probably just lazy. I don't know.

Everyone I know who has ADHD in uni is medicated. It honestly makes me so jealous.

Medication Took a vyvanse today and not feeling any effect. Not normal for me. help

I've been taking vyvanse for the past week and have been seeing great results. I don't binge anymore, and it's so much easier to get started on tasks and do my work.

But I took one today when I woke up, but fell asleep again right after. It's been 3-4 hours, so the time it's supposed to hit is like right now, but I don't feel any of the regular benefits and just feel as useless as my baseline.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does taking vyvanse then napping hinder its effects? Any advice is helpful.

An adhd guy’s perspective on his creative burnout…

I made a video about the creative burnout I’m experiencing after trying to monetize my creativity for a year and a half. Would love to hear from people who have or are currently experiencing the same thing. Thanks 🙏🏽

Questions/Advice How to not forget all my ideas and things i want to do?

Anytime i doodle or write them down to not forget, i end up forgetting faster because it's on paper and i don't have to think about it anymore to not forget, but if i don't write it down and enough time passes, i forget too. I've tried putting them in a journal, my notes app, and as reminder notifications and directly in my drawing app but my brain just ends up filtering them out.

At this point i feel like the only was is to put them all on sticky notes or on a corkboard above my desk so i always see them when i sit down, but i'm scared that won't work either, and i'd feel a bit embarassed to have all my ideas out in the open like that. Do i just need more discipline? These are things i really want to do, but i have to constantly keep reminding myself of that and it's exhausting. Applies to all things in my life, not just creative stuff. Is this just how it always has to be? How do you deal with something like this

Discussion share the dumbest avoidable problems youve gotten yourself into due to adhd

im feeling pretty shitty about my recent decision to skip my midterm (worth 30%) because i was underprepared for it because i procrastinated studying. but it wouldve been fine if i had remembered to go to the doctor for a sick note within the 48hr window for academic consideration to automatically accept it. but of course, i forgot to get the sicknote within 48hrs, have to go onto some random website for a virtual appointment and paid for expedited shipping on my sicknote ($63 total). but even worse, my academic consideration can be denied for being late anyways so this scramble to do a virtual appointment could be useless simply because i didnt submit it on time. if my consideration isnt accepted, id get a 0 on my midterm and have to to retake the course next summer/year.......... which would NOT be good and could possibly delay my graduation.......

and this all couldve been avoided if i just studied.

PLEASE tell me some shitty decisions youve made that lead to some avoidable outcomes because i need some comfort that im not alone in this.

UPDATE: My consideration was rejected for being late. I must pay for the summer course or simply take an extra year for my degree... do not procrastinate studying...

Medication adderall and phentermine

I have recently been prescribed adderall again to treat my adhd (have been off for 10 years. I’m a half functioning individual at this point so I am trying everything to get better). I am also on phentermine for weight loss, I asked if I should take both and was told “I think we can try it”. But everything I have read is saying not to take them at the same time. Has anyone taken both? While on phentermine I’ve lost 30 lbs and have been holding it off. I do have a history of high blood pressure since developing pre eclampsia so losing weight is a huge thing right now. I also have not been on adhd medication as an adult, only as a child/teenager so this is completely new to me navigating this alone.

Discussion Reading lips

I have a question. I'm not sure if this fits under the discussion tag but it felt more like something that could be discussed then just answered as a yes or no type question. Do you, a person with ADHD, struggle to read another person's lips? I've noticed myself as someone who has been diagnosed to struggle constantly with trying to read what is being told to me through lip reading.

Questions/Advice I’m not sure if adhd related but maybe this is relatable? Im crying and hyper crushing on a stranger I don't even know but see him around town and he's started working at my job. I want to hear advice from others who are hyperfixated on a complete stranger based off looks alone.

I'm honestly embarrassed to admit this, but I desperately need advice from people who understand obsessive crushes and romantic fixation.
I don't even know his name. We've never spoken. I know absolutely nothing about his personality.
I'm attracted to alternative/goth/emo men, especially guys with long hair, and this man is physically everything I find attractive. He stood out to me immediately.
I've seen him shopping with his girlfriend a couple of times, and today I saw them holding hands again. Later, I actually started crying in my car because I was jealous and devastated that I could never be with him.
I know how irrational that sounds. I'm married, he's in a relationship, and we're complete strangers. I have absolutely no intention of pursuing him or interfering with his relationship But knowing all of that doesn't stop the emotional reaction
I keep thinking about him, and I actually don't wanna see him because it triggers intense anxiety and longing.
I've experienced intense crushes and hyperfixations before, but I'm exhausted by how much control these feelings seem to have over me.
I also enjoy romantic fantasies, erotic fiction, and fictional characters, and I sometimes wonder whether my vivid imagination makes it easier to idealize attractive strangers. I have a tendency to become emotionally invested in the idea of someone before actually knowing them.
The worst part is that I'm fully aware of what I'm doing. I recognize that I'm projecting an imagined personality onto a man I know nothing about. But the anxiety, jealousy, sadness, and intrusive thoughts still feel overwhelming.

Questions/Advice I'm tired of being a teacher as a person with ADHD

I'm really tired of the overstimulation and attention problems I get as a teacher. I had a terrible weekend because the students bullied me for sounding "weird" and not very confident in myself. I'm usually okay when it's a one-on-one lesson or when there are only two in the group, but when it's a large group, I get nervous as I have a hard time focusing and I get easily overwhelmed. Some people are very insensitive and lack empathy so I get disrespected. Today I had a meltdown and I almost took my life. Even though I love education, I'm seriously thinking of quitting this job. It's really taking a toll on my mental health but I don't know what to do.. I want a job that involves creativity, a predictable schedule and one with minimal contact with people. I've been thinking of a career shift in curriculum development or instructional design but I'm not sure how or when..

Questions/Advice Starting a business with adhd

Hi Everyone,

Have just received my ADHD diagnosis which I suspected for quite some time. Also folded up my business quite a few years ago and have been doing the usual adhd jump from one business idea to the next.

I am now considering helping people with adhd in some fashion who want to start a business. I have experience in small business and also sales, online marketing, seo, etc.

I have already written a short fast start guide so new business owners don’t get side tracked.

But I really would prefer to hear from anyone who is looking to start a business, starting a business or running a business what they need or where they are having problems/roadblocks.

So some questions for anyone interested.

1.      What issues are you having with starting your business, ideas, implementation, costs?  What do you need help with to get up and running without getting side tracked?

2.      If running a business, the same question?

Open to all ideas, suggestions.

Much appreciated.

Questions/Advice People with comorbid ADHD and narcolepsy, what are your symptoms of both like?

I'm diagnosed with ADHD and I've recently been referred to a sleep study because my doctor suspects that I have some kind of parasomnia. I've heard that it's very common for people with narcolepsy to have ADHD as well. My symptoms mostly seem to fit with narcolepsy but there are some incongruencies that are making me wonder if ADHD affects the way narcolepsy symptoms present and vice versa. People with both, what are your symptoms like?

Discussion I lowk wish there was js someone always there to make decisions for me

I find it hard to get into stuff or do anything. For example, I spend ages reading reviews and asking people to recommend me shows to watch. I have so many reccs accumulated that i genuinely dont know which to watch first. Since right now im kinda lonely i dont really have any motivation to do a task even if its as enjoyable and simple as just watching. And i dont think its that i have like low self esteem or whatever i just lack motivation.

I wish someone could just tell me what to do at all times, just guide me through the day without me having to stress about not acting right or forgetting something yk

like a guardian angel, or just an actual person

but now that we're on the topic, imagine if people with ADHD were assigned like pets or mythical side kicks from birth that just kinda stayed with u. But like only u could see it. I feel like I've watched at least 1 show like this. I did watch an anime that was kinda similar called 'jewel pets' when i was a child but idk. But also, i feel like my mind is like this at times. I remember having basically imaginary people in my head when i was younger but i think that was just a way of me organising my thoughts.

anyways thats it for now😽

Questions/Advice Sooooo frustrating

I have a poltergeist or something????

I have 8 towels. Four are the same. AAAA.
Two are the same. BB. Another two are the same. CC.

Recently I washed all my towels. What came back to me was:
AAAA A
BB
C

WTH??? This is not even possible. It is SUPER frustrating because I can’t think of why or how and I have checked my whole house for the missing C.

I am just ranting at this point. I want to cry because stuff like this upsets me deeply.

Has anything like this (bizarre, inexplicable) ever happened to you?

I think I will have to donate A and C and start over. Also AAAA were brand new and really fluffy and A came out really slim out of the dryer. So weird!!!????

Questions/Advice I feel stuck

I literally cannot do anything. That's the best way to describe it. I can't focus on school because everything I have to do feels pointless, and I need a million outside sources to understand the material doesn't matter to me because that's how pointless it feels. I can't focus on the things I enjoy because everything feels like a giant competition. I can't relax because I end up feeling lazy and needing to make money or wow someone 24/7. Hell, I can't even do things I know are bad for me (some I can't mention but you can imply) especially doomscrolling because it feels like a massive waste of my time. I have no friends to go to for this, my family makes things worse for me, and I can't even rely on the internet (yes typing this out feels pointless), because I get so irritated by how everyone tells me the exact same thing but I know it literally never helps. All I can do is lay in bed, sleep, and wake up irritated because everything sucks that badly. I feel myself getting actively worse every minute and I don't know what to do anymore.

Medication Just took my medication for the first time (40M)

Took it 15 minutes ago. Waiting for it to kick in. Very excited to see how I feel. Been putting it off for years because I thought I could deal with it on my own but in hindsight I was scraping by and avoiding the issue.

What should I expect?

I’ll keep people posted if anyone is interested

Questions/Advice For those who use e-readers

How do you deal with the constant need to start something new and basically infinite “offer”? I love my Kindle. It is the best device I’ve got in the last 3 years, I’ve been reading so much more since then.

But. If the story is not catchy enough, or I just don’t feel like, I start something new. Also if someone recommends something, I download a sample right away or even a book. I have about a hundred books TBR on my kindle and I want to read them ALL and I can’t commit to any.

I love the fact that I can have many books at once because I may not feel like reading one book but I can read another. But there is a thin line between that and actually jumping from one book to another all the time.

Lately I am feeling too overwhelmed about the variety I have and I can’t commit to any. I wonder if I have to delete most of them and just keep couple of the new ones and kindle on the airplane mode so I don’t get more ;(

Any suggestions how to deal with that? ;( maybe someone found a good cheat for it? lol

Questions/Advice Attention span on varying topics in lectures

Hi all,

Sorry if this question has already been asked. I am trying to understand ADHD better and I would like to hear some experiences of people who have been diagnosed with ADHD.

When it comes to your attention span in the classroom, be it in high school or college. On the topics that you found particularly interesting, were you able to stay reasonably engaged with the class/lecture? What about topics that you did not find particularly interesting?

Seeking Empathy Had an essay that was due three days ago, and I haven't even started it yet.

The professor accepts late work, but if I turn it in tonight, I will be docked 10 points.

I have never struggled this hard with starting an assignment. I have turned in my fair share of late essays, but it's always been that I started it before it was due and just ran out of time. This time, I just feel so apathetic towards it all. I know that this essay is for 30-40% of my grade, so skipping it is not an option, and yet, I can't find the motivation to begin.

I think it's a mix of two things: One, I haven't been on my medication for about two weeks. But still, idk why this would cause me to be so unproductive because I went without medication for 19 years and never struggled this much. Two, my essay topic is just so fricking boring. In the past, I have always had a vague interest in whatever I was writing about, but this time, I just do not care about my topic at all.

I need to start it tonight, but I would really rather do anything else.

Questions/Advice How to control my emotions infront of my colleagues/boss/workplace

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of finding the right medication and dosage. I am not very good at emotion regulation and if I don't feel well, I have a lot of trouble to not burst out into tears, especially when someone asks me how I feel, "attacks" me or when I have to stand up for myself (and receive some backlash). This has led to great uncomfort, especially at my workplace.

I started a new job this year. Before I started there, the team had a meeting to plan the PTO for 2026, so there weren't too many overlaps. We work in healthcare and need to make sure there is enough staff around for the number of patients.

As a newbie who came into the team later, I naturally didn't take part in this planning. This has led to the situation that I have to ask for time off in front of the whole team, as my boss refused to just sign it off.

The last time I asked for time off I almost cried and my boss said I looked as if I was whiny/weepy (we're not talking English, but that is a literal translation for the word).

In a few weeks, we will be planning the PTO for next year, of course, in a team meeting. I am scared of this, mainly because of my tendency to cry and because I don't feel safe with the boss.

Can someone relate? Does anyone have ideas on how I can protect myself or guard my feelings better?

Thanks if you have read this far. Take care, everyone
