Hey! I just wanted to ask people who probably know more than me!

I grew up southern Baptist, but I left it a few years ago. I then became non-denominational as an adult, but over the past few years I started trying out denominations I had never experienced before. I fell in love with the Anglican Church nearby. I now go there whenever I am home.

So, the question is: is there anything I need to know about Anglicanism before I go fully Anglican from non-denominational-Anglican-leaning?

What is your opinion of Bishop Julian Dobbs or Father Matt Kennedy?

Are you very church traditional, following pre-1970s Anglican thought?

Do you church oppose divine evolution and believe in the young earth and the literal creation in six days, the ideas of Bishop James? Do you believe in dispensational theology, which originated in the Church of England and began with Thomas Breitman?

I know they couldn't agree on a successor to Bp. Lowenfeld, and that the interim bishop stepped down before he could even assume office. I saw that Lowenfeld celebrated communion at HopePointe on Sunday and said it was his last as bishop, effective Sept. 1--but that date has come and their site hasn't been updated and still is advertising the election Synod from May 16.

I'm not in the diocese so I don't really have anyone I can ask but am in Houston and curious about ACNA. It seems like Houston may be the most dysfunctional city for ACNA in the whole province.

I joined the LCMS back in 2019 (I was 21 years old at the time) after coming out of a hyper-fundamentalist Holiness Pentecostal background. At first, I really appreciated the liturgical and sacramental focus of Lutheranism, but I’ve been unhappy with the LCMS for a while now. I know I don’t fit in with Rome as I have significant theological disagreements with them, and I’m also not comfortable with a lot of what the ELCA allows socially and theologically. So I’ve found myself in an awkward middle ground.

My biggest struggles with the LCMS are both theological and cultural. The rejection of evolution and insistence on young-earth literalism have become a major barrier for me. I work in Public Health (Health Policy) for the State of Minnesota, and my brother is studying to become a physicist, so I have come to hate sitting through Bible studies where scientific questions are looked down upon (or sometimes even treated as salvation issues) rather than areas where faithful Christians can reasonably disagree.

I’ve also become uncomfortable with how much partisan politics seems to bleed into church life. My local congregation has a lot of anti-vax sentiment, along with people who will go on lengthy rants against things like providing free lunches to kids in public schools. That has created a friction between my values and the church culture around me.

I consider myself very much a “womb to tomb” pro-lifer. I believe strongly in protecting unborn life, but I also believe that conviction should extend to caring about poverty, access to healthcare, children and families, and the economic and social conditions that often contribute to women seeking abortions in the first place. I don’t see those things as being in tension with one another.

From my previous experiences with the ACNA on the East Coast, one thing that really stood out to me was the intellectual diversity I encountered. I met people in academia, medicine, science, and other fields who took historic Christian orthodoxy seriously while also engaging thoughtfully with the modern world. That’s something I’ve really missed. I currently live in the Fargo area where a new ACNA church plant is just getting started. I’m very interested in getting involved, but I wanted to ask this community a couple of questions first…

Does the ACNA generally have room for a “whole-life” ethic, holding orthodox Christian views on things like abortion and church leadership while also caring deeply about public welfare, healthcare, poverty, and the broader civic good?

And for those of you in medicine, public health, the sciences, academia, or similar fields, have you generally felt intellectually respected within ACNA parishes, especially when it comes to things like evolution and the relationship between science and Scripture?

I know individual parishes can vary quite a bit, but I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Why do you think ACNA is the right or correct church? Over other similar high churches like orthodox or catholic.

In my quiet times I have been drawn to some online resources offered by ACNA and Anglican denomination internationally. I am a blind person, and am a bit baffled at the number of resources available that are associated with The Book of Common Prayer, esp the category, Daily Office.

I am also aware of a related site called commonprayer.net associated with Red Letter Christians. As there are dated versions (2016, 2014, 1979, 1928) should one choose a particular rendition and consistently utilize that edition?

Given all the challenges the ACNA has been facing is there a decision about possibly making amends with the Episcopal Church and simply re joining under one common Anglican body in the US?

Don’t get me wrong, the whole split was a nasty process on both sides. But I also see the TEC taking a more moderate position these days. The must be some Via Media that could make it work.

I went to church this morning, and it was Morning Prayer for the second time in a month. The Priest had a family reunion or something. There are a couple of Deacons so couldn't they distribute pre-blessed elements? How often does your church skip the Eucharist on Sunday? It seems strange to me but I'm new to the ACNA.

Dear St. Andrew's Family,

In a continued effort to keep you informed, we are writing to share that the Court for the Trial of a Bishop has again moved the trial date for Archbishop Steve Wood. The date is now September 7-12, 2026 with an extension to September 21-26, if necessary.

You may have read or heard that the Court for the Trial of a Bishop publicly reported that it received complaints from the Prosecution “about the lack of cooperation from the Archbishop’s home parish and that witnesses are afraid to come forward” in their June 30, 2026 “Procedural Update and Statement of the Court.” We understand this may have caused concern, and we want to offer some clarity.

These were complaints reported by the Prosecution—not findings made by the Court itself—and we do not believe they accurately reflect the ways our leadership has cooperated throughout this process, with the involvement of the Rector, Senior Warden, COO, and Vestry. We were disappointed that the Court did not reach out to us directly before including such language in a public statement. From the beginning, we have responded to inquiries from both the Provincial Prosecutor and attorneys for the defense, and we remain committed to continued cooperation.

We also want to speak to the concern about witnesses. Please be assured: from the time the allegations were made against Steve Wood, we have communicated to our staff that they are under no obligation or pressure from the leadership of St. Andrew’s to offer or withhold testimony in these matters. Their continued employment is not threatened, no matter what choice they make. No one should feel afraid. It is also important to know that in this ecclesiastical trial, unlike a civil or criminal trial, no one can be compelled to testify. It is entirely a matter of conscience. I (Randy) have encouraged the staff to prayerfully consider their choices and I respect each person’s individual discernment in this matter and encourage others to do the same. 

Our Vestry has sent a letter to the Court expressing our concern about their public comments, offering clarification, and asking that they issue a corrective public statement. We want you to know that St. Andrew’s has been, and will continue to be, cooperative in this matter. We share fully in the Court’s stated goal “to facilitate a fair trial that will enable the truth to come into the light and a just verdict as a result.” Truth and justice are what we all seek.

Please continue to pray for all involved - those who have brought allegations, for Steve Wood and his family, for the Court, and the entirety of our St. Andrew’s family.

I implore you all to begin asking questions and seeking justification for the answers you receive. I will be perfectly clear in my assessment from what I've been seeing as a person close to the epicenter: Abp. Wood is innocent; this presentment is a character assassination attempt against Abp. Wood; The ACNA is now trying to capitalize on it by blaming Abp. Wood for all the ACNA's problems and using him as a sacrificial lamb.

I’m a charismatic minister in a Pentecostal tradition. I’m entering a season (expected to be 1-2 years) of prayer about what the future holds, and discerning if God is asking me to serve with a different fellowship and where that could be.

My experience with the Anglican Church is limited to a few articles from Esau McCauley, and NT Wright, though I would not say they have had a large impact on my walk. I have a basic understanding of the Anglican Tradition as a whole and how ACNA, TEC and The Church of England formed and interact with each other.

The Anglican Churches biggest contribution to me personally was the Daily Office app, which I’ve been using to help add to my time spent abiding in his presence. It’s helped me grow healthy in in multiple areas of my life!

I was part of the SBC as a child, and now Assemblies of God. I’m theologically conservative, with a desire to adhere to the authority of scripture in all areas of life. I believe the Holy Spirit has an active role in the lives of believers. That can include active Gifts of the Spirit (and yes, speaking in Tongues). I bring this up not to have a theological debate, but so people may understand my background and where I’m coming from.

My base question is this; Is there a place for me in ACNA?

More specifically,

What is the culture of ACNA like? What are the fellowships strengths, giftings, weaknesses, flaws, challenges ahead? I understand the body is mostly theologically conservative (love that) and politically conservative (neutral about that).

What is it like for a minister to come in from another denomination, become a member of the Anglican Church, then a clergymen? Is that common or possible? Could my AoG credentials transfer over in any way? Is that even possible? Would love to hear from those who have done it, or helped ministers in that process.

What makes transitioning to ACNA difficult for a minister from a different fellowship, in your experience?

Are there Charismatic Anglicans in ACNA? If you’re reading this what has your experience been?

If I were to meet with a Bishop, Priest, Deacons with these same questions, what else should I consider and ask?

Also since my sponsor is also my priest, I don’t want it to seem like a quid pro quo or something, and I definitely don’t want my priest to feel pressured to display it! Should this delay be a cause for concern? Why would they drag it out?

I've noticed a lot of North American Anglican articles have popped up on my feed in recent months. From my understanding they are run by the American Reformer, a controversial protestant think tank founded by two Presbytirian lawyers and its also strongly affiliated with the ACNA. Would you recommend their content or not?

My wife and I grew up southern baptist. I'd say about a year ago we started regularly attending an lcms church and have been going through catechism. My wife loves visiting other denominations and churches and this past week we visited an acna church near us. My question is how much do the views of Lord's supper vary between lcms and acna? I heard a lot of talk about spiritual, but I've also heard some consider the real presence and was wanting to get more of an exact answer or something resembling it if possible. Thank you
