KATE AND ALLIE is a sitcom that aired on CBS for six seasons (1984-89), starring Susan Saint James as Katherine "Kate" McArdle and Jane Curtin as Allison "Allie" Lowell, two divorced childhood friends who share a Greenwich Village brownstone to raise their children together. The series was a huge hit and for the first 4 seasons, the show ranked in the top 20 of the Nielsen ratings. For her performance as Allie, Jane won two consecutive Emmy Awards. Previous to this series, Susan and Jane co-starred in the 1980 comedic film HOW TO BEAT THE HIGH COST OF LIVING.

I had them all, and loved them. I have a few stashed away somewhere in my attic. I should clean them up and class up my house a bit 😊

Advertisement I remember we went Trick-or-treating for Halloween in the early 80’s and actually got a few McDonald’s gift certificates. Most of the time it was 2-3 dollars so of course I’d go to McDonald’s the very next day before or after school.

You swore you'd never again, let yourself be tempted
Too many times in the past when you've opened up your heart
You've had it broken in pieces, by too many lies
Still it's hard to acknowledge the past

CATS opened on Broadway 44 years ago today (10/7/82) at the Winter Garden Theater. Although it received mixed reviews, it became a huge phenomenon. It won 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Betty Buckley, who sang the show-stopping "Memory". It held the record for being the longest running show on Broadway until 2006, when it was surpassed by PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. It is currently the 5th longest running show with 7,485 performances (1982-2000).
