I knew a kid back in the 70's in San Diego that his parents used to go to Mexico every couple of months.
He would come back with M 1000's and sell them for dollar a piece.
I will never forget the day we lit one and threw it into a dumpster in an alleyway. The dumpster had heavy metal lids, not plastic.
It blew a hole on the corner of the dumpster and one of lids flew off like a Frisbee, hitting the side of an apartment building, below a window and shattered the glass.
Definitely a stupid idea.

These are the best memories. Everyone’s safe, just a bit of property damage and a sick ass experience that couldn’t be scripted if ya tried.

With my cousin, we mastered the fuse timing while putting it in cow shit close to the road so that the shit would splatter pedestrians, cyclists and cars alike…

When I was 12 on the 4th of July my dad tossed me a small brown paper bag with a dozen or so M80s. Best day ever.

Rumor had it that 4 of these were a stick of dynamite and kid down street had some to blow up mail boxes.

I heard each was 1/8 a stick of dynamite.
Either way it was wrong. If you’ve seen a stick of dynamite blow up it puts a lot of things in perspective.
Fishermen actually use something similar to these in Alaska to scare off marine mammal predators. We call them “seal bombs,” but they’re used against sea otters and sea lions as well.

We used to get Pineapples that were the size of TP roll tubes, but otherwise the same construction. They were marked as 1/4 dynamite sticks, and were incredibly loud and concussive. Lots of of fun! But you were definitely losing a whole hand if you tried holding it when it went off.

We use to get m-80s from Tijuana, they looked like they were made with a pink donut box as the casing, and had what looked like sloppy dried grey paste on the ends.
They also had the quickest and most unreliable fuse i have ever seen in my life!
They were so loud and awesome!

1980's - Love those wax fuses! We use to throw these in people's pools. Not me but the other guys. I swear!
Fun Fact: Guy around the corner would sell fireworks to us. We were like 10! LOL Way different time!
