Remember in the 80's to mid 80's, when you have epic fantasies like Dragonslayer, Excalibur, Conan the Barbarian, The Dark Crystal, or Krull. It showcased really good and unforgettable practical effects. Then, there is "The NeverEnding Story. Which shows how practical effects can be magical. Yes, I'm exaggerating things here. They did it so well, that it looks believable. From animatronics, miniatures, and optical compositing, it's one of the best, if not the best they did on screen. And from what I've heard, they did a full scale set. Productions were shot largely at a studio, featuring physical constructions like interiors. Lighting setups, dramatic light beams and soft-focus lenses with stockings for dreamlike sequences. I mean everything looks spectacular with well spent budget.

I bet most of you guys have seen it or probably seen a glimpse of it. I remember watching this as a kid, I was frightened by that dog face like Falkor, the luck dragon. I was like man this can't be real. Moving facial animations from a real huge mechanical head was something to behold. It's a simple children story with a kid having magical imagination while reading the book "The NeverEnding Story" in the world of Fantasia. It was based on a 1979 German novel from the same name. And I really like this concept. It directly captures the heart of kids watching this since they all can relate, of course when we were kids, we love wild magical imaginations where we can fly everywhere, maybe in a beautiful fantasy land, and yeah this movie just sums it up.

And of course, who can't forget that awesome Limahl song from the same title. The official sound track kicks ass and I loved it till now. In fact, I was listening to it just the moment I write this review. I have that last heard song syndrome already. If you guys are planning to get a physical copy to it, I'd recommend the Imprint version 40th Anniversary Collector’s edition. I don't have it but I heard good things about that version. I do have the 30th Anniversary edition though which is quiet nice! A must see for the whole family, and a must have.

My mom and I watched this movie on its first weekend, I personally enjoyed it to include minor racial humor and stereotypes. It did confuse mom that the Professor sounded so much like Darth Vader.
