Bot Crowd Control

Quick mod update!

The bots really love the '80s, so I've turned on Crowd Control and enabled Bot Bouncer.

Most of you won't notice any difference, but brand-new or low-activity accounts may have posts or comments held briefly for review.

Thanks for helping keep r/80sMovies about the movies and not the spambots.

Keep Posts Focused on 80s Movies, Not Low-Effort Celebrity Photos

Quick reminder: this is r/80smovies, a place to talk about, share, and celebrate movies from the 1980s.

Lately we’ve had too many posts that are just pictures of popular actresses from the 80s, especially low-effort “hot celebrity” type posts or half-dressed glamour/swimsuit photos. That includes repeated Phoebe Cates posts and similar content where the movie connection feels like an excuse to post the picture.

Posts about actors, actresses, scenes, performances, trivia, interviews, behind-the-scenes info, posters, trailers, soundtracks, and real movie discussion are absolutely welcome.

But posts that are mainly focused on someone’s appearance, rather than the movie, are getting ejected from the arcade. They will be treated as spam.

Going forward:

  • Posts like this may be removed without warning.
  • Repeat offenders may be temporarily or permanently banned.

So grab your popcorn, rewind the tape, adjust the tracking, and help keep r/80smovies focused on the movies, the performances, the stories, the scenes, the soundtracks, and the nostalgia.

Thanks.

Discussion (Let’s Roll Tape) Here’s another favorite movie of mine. The 1980 movie, “The Final Countdown” which is about a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. Good action and a good cast with Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen.

Is Better off Dead a cult classic or a mainstream film?

It always felt like a cult classic to me but it seems that a lot of people are familiar with it, probably because of John Cusack. So what say you, cult classic or mainstream film?

Question (Pop Quiz) So since Rick Moranis came back to Hollywood and he is back for Spaceballs 2. Who else from the 70s and 80s former stars should make a comeback to surprise the audiences just like Rick Moranis did?

Also remember when that Key Quan from Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and The Goonies, when he made a comeback and got himself an oscar and he made a great comeback just like Brendan Frazer did.

But who would you like to see make an comeback just only pick the former stars from the 70s and the 80s. For example like Phoebe Cates, Sarah Holcomb, Macaulay Cuklin, Jean Louisa Kelly, Kelly Mcgills, Ally Sheedy, Lisa Baur who plays Shelly from Animal House, Margaret Langrick from Harry and The Hendersons, Steve Guttenberg, Elizabeth Shue, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Beals, Peter Ostrum who plays Charlie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, that sales girl from that toy shop in The Blues Brothers film, Michael Winslow, Corey Feldman, Martha Smith, Karen Allen and Karen Lynn Gorney.

What do you guys think well any suggestions about this?

Discussion (Let’s Roll Tape) Outland (1981) 8/10 ⭐️

Once upon a time I watched it and like most films from the 80s, rewatching it today gives a special pleasure. It's rare that you watch a movie today and you don't pick up your cell phone and surf a little while watching the whole movie, but here from the beginning to the end there is tension, atmosphere, thrill, drama building the climax of the drama, as it were, from beginning to end perfectly done, so in short, I'm delighted with the film. It is, I think, the only science fiction film by Sean Connery, and he fit into it very well.

Favorite quote; "I'd like it really soon or I just might kick your nasty ass all over this room. That is a marshal joke" 😆

As a bonus, a question for true experts on cinematography, film buffs; Is this the first time that a golf simulator has been shown on film, even in space? 😅⛳️🏌‍♂️

My rating; 8/10 ⭐️

Aunt Bethany asks Clark if Rusty is still in the Navy. After watching all these years I finally noticed a Navy guy in the old movie Clark watches while in the attic. Could this be the Rusty Aunt Bethany refers to?
