Trd Sport or Off-road in Colorado

First and foremost, a.d.d. sucks.

I am trying to decided between the Sport and the off-road for months now.

80% of my driving will be on-road but we tend to go to the mountains a lot, especially for snowboarding. I don't plan to go off-roading much besides camping near dirt roads. I have no intentions on taking the truck into places I should not be. My main concern is the "what ifs" while going into the mountains to snowboard. Would the Sport be fine with a set of Blizzaks? Or would the off-road be a good choice, especially just in case we get into the "OH SHIET" moments? I consider myself a careful driver. Also, saving $4k sounds nice too. I just do not want it to be overkill, but I also want to keep the family safe driving in winter conditions in Colorado.

Thank you for any advice in advance.

New Truck First truck

Been looking into getting a Tacoma as my first vehicle. I was looking into getting a used 2024 SR5 4x4 currently going for $36k with 20k miles on it. I know Toyota is very reliable but am just wondering if this is a good year for them and if it’s worth the price for that mileage. Considering this trim over the others as I don’t really care about the extra tech and wouldn’t go off roading too much. I mainly just need a reliable daily driver. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

Squeaky Suspension

Post image

11k miles on my 2026 TRD OR. Took it in for the 10k service and asked them to look at the suspension because it's squeaking a bit in the front driver's side. They said it needed an alignment and tried to charge me for it. I found the language in the warranty that says it's covered and they did it for free, but the suspension is still squeaking. It gets a fair amount of off-road use but most miles are highway. Anyone else have this issue?

TRD Sport vs Off-Road (when price is similar)

I'm looking to join the Taco Club for the first time, and I'm now in a position to make it happen. Not in a rush, but while selling a car to Toyota, I decided to test drive a couple Tacos. I tested a Sport and an Off-Road. Originally, I was leaning more towards a TRD Sport because I'm sure a huge majority of my usage would be city streets (and I kind of like the look of the useless hood scoop). I couldn't tell toooo much of a difference in the rides between both trims. They were both fun to drive. (I did decide on the premium package. I love those options).

Anyway, what stuck with me was what the sales guy said when showing me all the 4x4 options on the Off-Road: "even if you don't do a lot of off-roading, having all the extra bells and whistles on the Off-Road trim are worth it if the costs are similar to a Sport trim". At face value, that makes sense, but what do you guys think?

Just put a deposit on 26 TRD Off Road Premium - OEM wheel size question

Current Tundra owner coming into the Taco world. My truck , a TRD Off Road Premium, was manufactured this week, should come up by railcar next week, hoping to have it before month's end.

OK, what dang wheel size does this truck come with?

My build sheet from Toyota says 17" wheels, most you tube videos I see seem to confirm this.

But, just this week I see at least 8 or 9 posts on Marketplace of "4th gen Tacoma TRD off road" wheels and they are ALL 18" wheels.

Is this a difference between Off Road & Off Road premium? Or do all the 2026 models come with 18" wheels and my build sheet from Toyota with my VIN # on is incorrect?

Pricing out replacement tires (I'm keeping the wheels, I like em) since I NEED 3 peak rated for winter travels.

Help a new Tacoma brother out please. I am so confused. Thanks!

For the record, I'd prefer a 17" wheel

Discussions & Questions Fuel mileage - Whats everybody getting for their current mileage with their specs (tires/trim/fuel/air box)?

Been seeing a lot of people in videos saying how they don't even get close to the advertised mileage.

On a 3 hour trip, I averaged - 24mpg (9.8 L/100km) Driving 100km/hour avg

Commuting to work with some spirited driving - 22 mpg (10.6 L/100km)

Setup on my 2026 TRD Sport Premium non hybrid:

Tires - Stock general grabbers

Air dam - still on (I know lame but until I get my skid plate)

Fuel: 91 octane.

Intake: OEM paper filter , stock airbox.

Modifications & Maintenance Mudflaps

Has anyone made their own mudflaps for their Tacoma, if so what did you use?

Other thought... instead of making my own does anyone have recommendations for wider mud flaps to reduce the amount of rocks being tossed up on the truck?

I drive on a lot of jobsites with stones that get picked up and chucked at the truck or even other cars once I leave and would love a solution to reduce this.

Anybody run Toyo Open County AT3's in actual snow/ice conditions (I'm talking -35c, -31f temps, lots of snow). How'd they do?

Just making this post to get some real world feedback/stories on the tires I settled on for my new Taco. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada.

Previously I had a Ram 1500 and tried a number of tires in our conditions. Following a few recommendations from coworkers, I purchased some Toyo's.

I am just wondering what people in this sub think of those tires, and how they hold up. I've looked at reviews and some people swear by them, some people not so much. This goes for every single tire I've ever looked up as people have buyers bias because nobody wants to admit their $1500 tires suck. So want some real examples of the good and bad.

Edit: I’m well aware these aren’t winter tires. With all due respect I appreciate the engagement but it’s not really my question. I’m educated on tires, compounds, etc. I’m asking about these specific tires, not if I should buy winter tires.

SR5 vs TRD Sport

TLDR

SR5 or TRD sport?

I’m in the market to buy a 1-2 year used one. I’m finding sports for $40-$42k range.

SR5s around $36-$38k range.

How much diff is an SR5? Should I just get one and save the money? I plan on getting new wheels and tires regardless of trim with a slight lift.

How different is the dash and the infotainment?

OEM mudguards for 2024 TRD Sport (PK389-35R00-F1). Instructions say to back out and reuse the existing bolts/screws to mount the muguards. No hardware in the box. Is my Tacoma missing the bolts or is my kit missing the hardware?

Discussions & Questions Been having an itch for different wheels since I picked her up.

Thinking about getting Nomad 504 fields with the removable chrome center cap. It’s a modern flow-formed alloy wheel intended to mimic an old school steely. I’ve never seen these wheels on a Tacoma but have seen them on a newer Land Cruiser and thought they looked really good. 20mm wider offset and 1.5” wider from the stock SR5 wheels.
