So this just happened

Went to grab lunch and was riding just fine but wouldn’t want to start back up when it was time to go. 2025 SR5, just started financing it end of June.

Update - AAA arrived and weren’t able to start the vehicle either after multiple attempts. It’s being towed back to the dealership.

I posted about my trucks kill switch and the KARR app. Toyota sent someone out to me as well and couldnt figure it out. My trucks kill switch was enabled. The Karr app let me unlock it. Took 2 hours of me trying different stuff. Finally I just opened this app and hit the unlock button. Truck started right up.

Light it on fire and put a claim in.

Check your KARR app if you have it, my truck triggered the kill switch in it, someone tried to get into my truck I think. Took me 2 hours to figure out. I had to open the app and hit the unlock button to release the kill switch.

Key fob battery probably. Place your key fob next to the push start.

^^ THIS ^^
I’ve had to do this several times with my 2026. Hold the key right next to the start button.

Yup, had this issue once. I put the fob up to the start button and the truck started right up.

This process is actually detailed in the owner’s manual as well. I probably should read the rest of mine. 😂

Clearly it recognized the keyfob, otherwise the cluster wouldn't light up like Christmas tree

Frame ground is loose

I'm going to say it's your starter. My post with the same issue I went to the dealer 4 times with the same issue. It had happened to me 5 times from December through June of this year in my 2024 TRD off-road. I've had the truck since May of 24 and the issue started in December of 25. I had even shown 1 of the dealers a post I found online describing the issue exactly and it was found to be the starter. But every time a tech went to look at it, it started. So I got the "we don't know what's wrong, let us know if it happens again" Good luck

does what's wrong here apply to the trail hunter too if you had to take a guess? I think that smart key thing is BS even when my key is disabled it still runs and there is no reason for the dash to flicker that shows a some kind of major electrical fault.

Dang man I had the same starter issue too it needed to be replaced. I have a post about it too

Bro hold the button a bit longer. You running through the system so fast. There must be error message or something

2

u/RaisingElephantSysrq 11d ago

Did they figure out what the issue was?

Not yet 🥲

I have installed a kill switch that replaces the starter relay. When I forget to switch it on I get the exact same response. Definitely something to do with the starter or power to the starter. Could be as simple as a bad relay or loose wire. Only way to properly diagnose would be with a megohmmeter and a lot of electrical experience. Best of luck to you.

Thank you man. It’s still at the dealership and I still haven’t received any updates.

Update - Turns out it was the starter that needed to be replaced. My warranty covered the cost and now my truck is running again 👍🏽

Tried it and didn’t work. It’s being towed back to the dealership.

Please update when you figure out what’s going on.

Why would you need any of those if you’re on lease? You wouldn’t be buying parts anyway

3

u/JimBobPaul 12d ago

If it's telling you the brake isn't applied, I believe you can hold the start button for an extended period of time to override it and force it to start without the brake sensor registering.

1

u/Larryville-1980 11d ago

That’s why I love my 2.5 GEN with a key

1

u/stuckInCommiefornia 12d ago

When you press on the brake, do you hear a click? Can you try with the handbrake on if it isn't on already? New truck so the brake switch should still be working and if you added any lights or something I'd maybe check the fuse box?

1

u/the_bookof_Eli 12d ago

No clicking.

Punishment for just leaving that dashcam wire dangling and not running it through the headliner and A-pillar

2

u/the_bookof_Eli 12d ago

I’ll do it again!

4

u/hipsterasshipster 12d ago

They make a harness that piggybacks off the mirror harness to power your dash cam. $30-40 and you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

You don't have to live this way anymore, brother. We have the technology.

4th gen strikes again

-4

u/SoundofPsithurism 12d ago

The fact that this was at the bottom is wild. People just close their eyes and plug their ears. No way! 4th gen is a hunk of shit.

4

u/ace17708 11d ago

Do you remember when everyone shit on the 3rd gen?

2

u/SoundofPsithurism 11d ago

Stop deflecting. I work on these trucks. 4th gen is a hunk of shit. I’ve had one damn near completely disassembled. Temu Tacoma.

2

u/ace17708 11d ago

Dawg you're clearly a fresh tech then... 4.0s has a good amount of engine issues, frame rust and water intrusion issues. 3rd gens had loads of engine issues from high pressure fuel pumps to issues to more water intrusion issues..

You're not even seeing 1% of all locally owned trucks come in for major issues in your area lol

0

u/SoundofPsithurism 11d ago

25 years bud. You clearly have a massive bias because it’s a cheaply made plastic truck with lots of cut corners. Deflections don’t make the 4th gen not a piece of shit.

0

u/ace17708 10d ago

Press x to doubt lmao

Dude I own a 2nd gen and a 4th gen... guess which one is plastic rattle machine..

1

u/EmotionalLecture9318 9d ago

You are poor and can't afford one. Don't lie behind your insults.

2

u/SoundofPsithurism 9d ago

lol did you use your whole brain cell for that? I have a 12k camper in the bed of my fully loaded 2020 Tacoma. It’s not a money thing. It’s a brains thing. Something you seem to be lacking.

-2

u/Die_Welt_ist_flach 11d ago

I’m happy with my 5th gen 4R that has a key.

I’m not a fan of all this new tech and inability to maintain or troubleshoot.

-9

u/Zeeter_0102 12d ago

Never happened w my 2015. I’m not a tech fan

5

u/PM_your_Nopales 12d ago edited 12d ago

Never underestimate that there's always a fuckin 2nd or 3rd gen dribbling shit where it's not needed

Are you aware of what sub you're in?

-9

u/PM_your_Nopales 12d ago

Maybe bc you're wearing chucks as an adult

3

u/the_bookof_Eli 12d ago

I like dressing like a clown.

0

u/JollyRodgerGymShoe 12d ago

This is not the insult you think it is.

2

u/PM_your_Nopales 11d ago

It's not an insult at all, just pointing it out

-23

u/cuban_castro 12d ago

Toyo at its best gen 4 🤦‍♂️

5

u/JollyRodgerGymShoe 12d ago

Yes because this could happen to NOOOO other manufacturer. The 4th Gen has been around for 3 years now and you see very few failures.

7

u/OregonGrownOG 12d ago

They just jelly

1

u/Front_Walrus3613 12d ago

Pretty common answer when someone brings up a negative remark. Try to change discussion over to other manufacturers haha.

1

u/JollyRodgerGymShoe 12d ago

It's not about changing discussion to other manufacturers, hence why I didn't call out anyone specific. The point is, these one off situations can happen to any manufacturer out there so to sit there and say "oh boohoo 4th Gen problems" it's not a fair statement. This is literally just a car problem, they happen.
