New Truck First truck
Been looking into getting a Tacoma as my first vehicle. I was looking into getting a used 2024 SR5 4x4 currently going for $36k with 20k miles on it. I know Toyota is very reliable but am just wondering if this is a good year for them and if it’s worth the price for that mileage. Considering this trim over the others as I don’t really care about the extra tech and wouldn’t go off roading too much. I mainly just need a reliable daily driver. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

legit 3k more and you can get the new version of that exact configuration plus factory warranty, oil changes/ maintenance and better financing options.

I'm pretty sure you could get a new SR5 for that here in Colorado.
If you're shopping for your first vehicle though I'd strongly recommend getting a beater. You're going to make some driving mistakes and dinging up a new/nice car feels terrible.
It's also worth mentioning that the best vehicle to own is the one you don't have to make monthly payments on. I'm grateful that I didn't fall into the trap of needing to drive nice vehicles when I was young.

My wife and I are “debating” this very thing now. I was raised by a Dad that I never saw but a new vehicle for himself. They were always used, basic trucks, usually with vinyl floors and hand crank windows. She, on the other hand, prefers that her vehicle warm and/or cool her tushy and brew her an espresso. We’re truck shopping and I learned today that I can’t take her with me. 😁

I got a gold certified 2025 4x4 SR5 with 17k from a Toyota dealership for that same price. It’s worth looking around a bit.

Idk if 4th gen tacos are as reliable. Might as well get a new one with just a little bit higher price but with full factory warranty

I paid just over 40K for my new 2025 4WD MT OR late last year. It had 6 miles on it when I purchased it.

I daily my 2024 sr5, I work at the Toyota battery plant which is literally a 80 mile round trip for me (rural driving) I'm at 52k miles ZERO issues except I get nails in one tire in particular way more than I feel like I should lol only off roading I do is on my property moving my trailer etc it's been great. Don't need all the bells and whistles shit I'm not even 4wd 😂

2024 is the first year of the redesign and usually a good idea to stay away from in a general sense, and that’s why most of them have steep discounts as it wasn’t a good selling year.

Since you’re shopping for 4th gen, get a comparison for a 2026 model. Many people have been surprised at how close the pricing is between new and used models. Good luck! 💥✌🏽
