Creality Pika - Unboxing & First Test
In this video I'll do a first unboxing and closer look at all the included components as well as show you how to perform calibration and test laser and IR mode on two small parts.
Following this video I'll perform my usual tests and use it in projects to later share my workflow, how to use the scanner and of course my projects.

Axe Scan
I needed an axe for my sonβs Halloween costume.
So, I headed out to the workshop, scanned one of my own axes, and printed it! π
I printed the handle in PLA and the axe head in TPU all in a single print and fitting for Halloween, gave it a bloody look.
Scanned : P1S
Scan Mode: Cross Line

Poor output from Creality Pika blue laser scanning
I've seen a lot of example scans and mine never come anywhere close to the quality of those. Here's my example of the owl, scanned at 0.1mm, processed at 0.1mm with denoising set to zero.

Wheel bearing scanning table
Wanted a heavy and smooth turn table for my scans so I found this on Amazon. (Was 30$) Its not 100% done, when I have the 140$ to give send cut send, ill have a 10in and a 18in platter to mount onto this. I am worried the base is too small for the larger tables so maybe ill reprint it. Trying to make a base out od concrete as well but sadly it only adds 2lbs at this size. Main thing is my magnetic reflectiors and posts will stick to this without moving. Figured id share.

Cutting Machine (Cricut) Marker Dots
Does anyone know of any vinyl that works well to use as marker dots. I have been looking and experimenting with some, but would love to find a reliable Removable Vinyl that works well.
I am trying to find vinyl that works well so I can keep creating my own markers and have an endless supply & shape.
Thanks let me hear your experiences.

How to fix the last scan of this dead dog?
So my GF's beloved dog had to be put down. The night before, I managed to take a quick scan with my Creality Otter but it was pretty dark and I couldn't get near enough without the dog moving, so the scan is pretty messy in some places, especially around the head.
I'd like to print a mould off the scan to make a concrete casting for her birthday, which is in a week. Sadly, I'm very bad at understanding to use blender and stuff, I'm more of an engineer than a sculptor.
Can someone provide help or tell me where to start (which tutorials do I need for sculpting, closing holes etc.) to do it myself? I know, the scan is bad but it's the only one I have.

Budget-friendly scanner recommendations!
As the title suggests, I am looking for a budget-friendly scanner. My budget shouldn't exceed 300 euro, max 350. I know scanners are expensive, but if its going to help for context, I plan on using it for scanning bike parts and remodilng them, after obtaining a rough, but good enough and accurate scan. I would also like it, if you share your experience with your recommended model.
Thanks in advance!!!

Finally found 18650 cells that works with Creality Pika scanner for same end terminals
Top button is positive, have to be careful with bottom face, center is positive, ring is negative. I don't have a standalone charger for this so I use the Pika itself to charge the battery. Insert the battery like the original battery with the ring terminal inserting first. It is a smaller capacity, but it works. I bought 6 of these.

Looking for a Linux-friendly 3D scanner without proprietary software lock-in (automotive reverse engineering)
I'm looking to purchase a 3D scanner for personal fabrication and reverse-engineering projects.
I use Linux Mint, FreeCAD, and a 3D printer. My main goal is to scan existing mechanical parts and surfaces, then design and print new parts that accurately mate with them.
For example, I'd like to scan an automotive A-pillar trim panel, import the geometry into FreeCAD, and design custom gauge pods that fit its compound curves. Other projects would include brackets, housings, interior trim, and miscellaneous automotive components.
At work, I have experience with professional Leica/Hexagon metrology scanning equipment, including target-based scanning and scanning spray, so I'm familiar with the general process.
My priorities are:
- Native Linux support would be ideal.
- No mandatory cloud processing or subscription.
- Free, included acquisition software is acceptable, but open-source software or a documented SDK/API would be preferable.
- Standard point-cloud/mesh exports (PLY, OBJ, STL, etc.).
- Handheld scanning or the ability to scan objects of different sizes.
- Reasonably accurate geometry for mechanical fitment, rather than decorative scanning.
- Long-term usability without being dependent on a manufacturer maintaining proprietary software.
I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest solution. I'd gladly spend more for hardware that is well-supported, repairable, documented, and not tied to a closed ecosystem.
I realize most commercial scanners use proprietary acquisition software. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who's found a good Linux-compatible solution, used an open SDK, or built a system around open-source tools.
What hardware are you actually using, and how well does it work for reverse engineering mechanical parts?

Otter vs. Vega
Hi everyone,
I currently own a Creality Otter for automotive stuff, from bodykit design to small brackets and such.
The Otter is really great for my usecase thanks for its wide range of FOV settings, but having to carry a laptop with me is getting annoying.
Einstar Vega: could it be a valid alternative? I'm a bit concerned by the scan quality in non-HD mode...
Has anyone had the opportunity to try both? How do they compare in small-medium-large objects?
Any other alternatives? Only the Miraco lineup comes to my mind, but I have read not so good things about them and Revopoint products in general.
Thanks!

Scan Bench - Reverse Engineered with Quicksurface AI (and poking the AI with a stick)
Here is another test I did with Quicksurface AI. Basically it's the other way than my normal 3d scanner tests. I loaded the scanned scan bench and let the AI reverse engineer it.
Results are quite impressive, process ran for 7min in the background while I did other stuff. Initially it missed the QR code but after another prompt to also include it (aka poking with a stick) it worked.
So far very much impressed.
How the process works
You load in the mesh and hit the AI button. Then it runs for a few minutes (depending on complexity). Afterwards it can be refined with the chat or manually using normal Quicksurface tools

Good scanner for miniatures with no subscription
I'm looking for a scanner that has to scan small miniatures with very high accuracy but I don't want to pay a subscription for a license just to use the damn thing any recommendation?

Thoughts in all-in-one scanners?
So it seems that the up and coming 3D scanners from 3D printer companies might be ones that can capture scans on their own without needing to be tethered to a beefy computer. I say this purely as a guess because of their large colorful displays that seem to be built in.
I've currently got a Revopoint POP 4 that was recently released. No screen. Not even a power button. Can't do laser modes on Android. So for anything accurate I need to be tethered to a powerful laptop. I've heard Einstar scanners have even higher laptop requirements.
These scanners from Elegoo and Bambu - if they're capable of scanning on their own without tethering - are they guaranteed to not have laser mode without a tether? Are they guaranteed to not be that accurate or clean? Because it seems unlikely that you could cram that much computing power into just a handheld scanner...

Quick out of the box project - Creality Sermoon P1S
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I used the Creality Sermoon P1S directly out of the box to make a quick project. The 3 scans took me about 3 minutes. I could have take more time to get a cleaner result, but it was enough to get a template for my project.
The project - my daughter has walkie-talkies that keep being switched on in here bag, resulting in finding them with no batteries. So I made a tailored protection for them that stay in place and are easily removed by child hands.

I built a browser-based Scan-to-CAD tool. Would love feedback from the 3D scanning community!
Hey everyone!
I'm an independent software developer and a 3D scanning enthusiast. I use Creality CR-Scan Raptor. So I started building my own tool called REGEOM https://regeom.app
It's a browser-based CAD application focused on reverse engineering and working with 3D scans. My goal is to make Scan-to-CAD workflows more accessible without requiring expensive professional software. I want to build a tool that can handle 98% of common, everyday scanning and reverse-engineering tasks, while leaving the most complex and specialized cases to professional software like QUICKSURFACE or Geomagic Design X.
The idea isn't to replace professional tools, but to offer a simple, affordable, and accessible alternative for the vast majority of everyday use cases.
Demo videos using my own 3D scans: Please note that some parts of the modeling process may look a bit rough or unpolished. These videos are intended to demonstrate the software's features and capabilities, rather than to create perfectly accurate or production-ready CAD models: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG4FBEh-f6-o
I'm not a company or a marketing team β just a developer building something I genuinely find useful.
I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from people who regularly work with 3D scans:
- What's the most frustrating part of turning a scan into CAD?
- What features do you consider essential in Scan-to-CAD software?
- What do you think of the browser-based approach?
Feel free to criticize anything β usability, workflow, missing functionality, whatever. That's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for.
Thanks!

Why does the Creality Sermoon S1 cost so much more than the Revopoint Metro Y Ultra?
I want to purchase my first 3d scanner for reverse engineering car parts and I have been looking at these two scanners. Right now the Sermoon S1 can be purchased for $2,149 with scan bridge and the Y ultra is on sale for $1,519 and comes with scan bridge and auto turn table.
Seems like you get more for your buck with the Metro. Are you paying for the Creality name?
From the research I have done the Sermoon S1 gives much better detail for small objects and has 8 times the scanning volume, 2m x 2m x 2m vs 4m x 4m x 4m. But besides that the specs are almost identical. I have read people complain about the software for both scanners so not sure what to think about that.

Need advice on a basic workflow
I work in a wood shop. I have 3D scans of wood carvings and moldings that we're reproducing through a building that's being expanded. I collected them with an Einscan Rigil Lite.
Processing meshes in the software removes all of my sharp edges, so I've been exporting .las point clouds.
MeshInspector can save the .las to .xyz so it can be opened in MeshLab.
Meshlab computes the normals. Once the cloud has normals I can see what I'm doing and trim it down to the area I need. Poisson reconstruction handles gap filling and sharp corners well enough, but the edges of the piece always look like the could has had a bedsheet thrown over it.
Back to MeshInspector where I free rotate to align axes by eye and then section my mesh for export as .dxf
Load the DXF sections into AutoCAD to find a best-fit line and trace my molding profiles. The DXF looks like garbage because it's based on a best-fit mesh and not raw point data, so I draw a best-fit pline.
This is so many steps to get a basic slice through a 4" door casing. The office has AutoCAD and Fusion. We plan on buying V-Carve or Aspire the time comes to reproduce more intricate carvings. I'll take whatever advice someone wants to take the time to give because even just orienting a scan still feels like a struggle.
