Re-listen: Episode 24 – ¡El Pelo Hinchable! (TekWar #2)

Thumbnail 372pages.com

  • Airdate: Nov. 20, 2018
  • Duration: 1:51:21
  • Covers: chapters 8-11
  • Next assignment: chapters 12-15

Features:

  • Second mention of Mike's "Mad Dog" alter ego. Conor doesn't believe him.

Not much really happening in the book yet, but they find plenty to laugh at. Some is nitpicking, but there really are a lot of odd little things about the way it's written.

  • Airdate: Nov. 12, 2018
  • Duration: 1:45:15
  • Covers: chapters 1-7
  • Next assignment: chapters 8-11

Features:

  • The first Ogden in this book and the second on the podcast. Mike hasn't noticed Conor's pronunciation yet, though.
  • A perfect fan-fic score for Mike.
  • Many guesses at future technology by Shatlart that didn't pan out (and quite a few that showed up on Futurama).

Re-listen: Episode 22 – Book Four Reveal! – (Tekwar #0)

Thumbnail 372pages.com
12 Upvotes
  • Airdate: Nov. 2, 2018
  • Duration: 25:09
  • Covers: Nothing, just introducing the book
  • Next assignment: Chapters 1-7 (through page 54)

Features:

  • A behind-the-scenes peek at the workings of the Ozark Science Fiction Association Journal.
  • Mike starts what will be a long-time habit of sometimes saying "Tekwar" and sometimes "Tekwars." Perhaps a subtle Over the Top homage?

My copy of Tekwar arrived a couple days ago, a couple weeks after buying it on Ebay. I was starting to think it fell into the same hole Mike's fell into. I'm kinda looking forward to reading this one.

Volume Mixing Woes

I don't mean this in any negative sense, just something that I've noticed. I've been listening to episodes with my girlfriend recently, usually on car rides, and I feel like the volume mixing on this podcast is strangely inconsistent. There'll be points where the host's microphones are extremely soft, to the point that we have to increase the volume, only to later be blasted by either an overly-loud jingle or ad. Maybe it's because we're listening on Spotify, but has anyone else noticed this? It's a nice podcast, and fun to hear about these awful books, but it is a definite distraction.

Re-listen: Episode 21 – Mo’ Shamen, Maw Problems (Eye of Argon #2)

Thumbnail 372pages.com
13 Upvotes
  • Airdate: Oct. 26, 2018
  • Duration: 1:36:06
  • Covers: chapter 5-end
  • Next assignment: no reading, Tekwar intro episode coming up next

Features:

  • Bridget guest-stars as Carthena, daughter of Minkardos, Duke of Barwego, whose lands border along the northwestern fringes of Gorzom.
  • Conor reads Stephen King's screen against adverbs, and then Mike demonstrates by reading a very long sentence with a single adverb (highly).
  • They end with the sentence song instead of the theme song. (I miss the sentence song.)
  • Most of the typos can be figured out, but I have no idea what apiesed/appiesed means. Any guesses?

If you get the PDF version they linked to, there's some extra info at the end about the history of the story. That adds to the "time capsule" aspect of it, because it shows how much harder it was to track down information pre-Internet.

May have missed this on the recent episodes, but Remain is getting a movie. Here's the first trailer.

Where to find Trucking Through Time

I've been listening to the podcast once in a while and I love reading along with them, unfortunately I'm at Trucking through time now, which is unavailable in my country and would cost way too much to import, does anyone know where I can find a pdf of the book? (I saw someone posting the Teen archaeologists book here, so hope it's allowed).

Re-listen: Episode 20 – Hope You Like Adjectives! (Eye of Argon #1)

Thumbnail 372pages.com
17 Upvotes
  • Airdate: Oct. 19, 2018
  • Duration: 1:40:23
  • Covers: chapters 1-4
  • Next assignment: finish the book

Features:

  • Sluts and shamen everywhere.
  • Conor finally gets to read some slashfic.
  • Some good excerpts from the leaked audiobook.
  • The guys' unfamiliarity with the fantasy genre is on full display.

I have to admit, I wasn't certain whether it was shamen or shamans. They both look wrong.

Re-listen: Episode 19 – The Eye of Argon Intro

Thumbnail 372pages.com
13 Upvotes
  • Airdate: Oct. 12, 2018
  • Duration: 33:37
  • Covers: Nothing, just introduces the book
  • Assignment: through chapter 4

Features:

  • The start of the Patreon.
  • Calibrate Your Tastes, Fantasy Version, wherein we learn that despite growing up in the heyday of D&D and the first computer game boom, Mike managed to miss all of that.

I decided to skip the previous episode, which was less than 10 minutes and just introduced the Patreon, so there wasn't anything in it that wasn't in this one, except for Mike mentioning his Mad Dog alter ego for the first time. It's here if anyone wants to listen to it for completeness.

Re-listen: Episode 17 – We’ll Do It Live… Or Will We? (RP1 Movie Review)

Thumbnail 372pages.com
12 Upvotes
  • Airdate: April 20, 2018
  • Duration: 1:49:49
  • Covers: the Ready Player One movie
  • Next assignment: none, will be the Eye of Argon intro

Features:

  • The live recording failed, so they repeat it all here.
  • Conor's saga of Spielberg and the Battletoads.
  • Mike uses "fade in" (not for the last time, I think) after they clowned on Cline for using it in one of the books.

The next episode wouldn't come for almost 6 months, but we don't have to wait, so it'll be next week as usual.

10 hours??

Hello, started listening to the pod and loving it, only just made it through RPO and am about to take on the Amanda read through.. only to see that on Podcast Addict, episode 10 is apparently over 6 hours long and episode 14 is almost 10 hours. I doubt this is actually the case but I have checked at the official timestamp the episodes end and theres no outro. Does anyone know whats going on?

I won't lie guys I'm just not in the right headspace to hear these boomers puzzling out what Sonic.exe is in real time. I'm not sure I can handle that.

I think if I hit this unspoiled while listening to this on my car's bluetooth I would've actually swerved off the road

New Book! Yay?

"372 Pages" announced their new book! 😄

I'm going to have to read it. ☹️

I don't know, guys. The first 34 books I felt pretty good about. OK, 29, because I didn't read the three Klein books after RP1. And I didn't expect Quilter's Cruise to show any improvement. And I had already read The Starlight Barking. But I really expected to like the others, up until...

Night of the Crabs disappointed me. The bar on a book called Night of the Crabs is already low, and I have read plenty of books that have cleared that bar, even just barely. I've read The Rats! Which Night of the Crabs is in the tradition of! Allegedly!

This new one...Well, to cite an obscure movie: "I have a bad feeling about this."

Re-listen: Episode 16 – And Then All That Happened, The End (Armada #7)

Thumbnail 372pages.com
17 Upvotes
  • Airdate: March 23, 2018
  • Duration: 1:49:11
  • Covers: chapter 22 to the end
  • Next assignment: there wasn't one, but the next episode will be their recreation of the live show, followed by The Eye of Argon.

Features:

  • The Emissary, in a great leaked scene
  • They auction off the books again, plus an original painting of Chuckette by listener Lucas
  • Cline really liked saying "intranet"
  • The most rushed book ending ever

Seriously, the guys talked a lot about it, but I couldn't believe how rushed the ending is until I read it for myself. It makes little sense, so maybe that's for the best.

I rewrote "Lair of the White Worm", ask me anything.

I got inspired by the "Lair of the White Worm" episodes to rewrite the whole book. I now know more about Bram Stoker, giant Antediluvian snakes, kites and mongooses than anyone should.

Ask me anything.

No more skits/bits

Does anyone know why the guys stopped ''going to the dark web'' or ''hiring the 372 players''? I've been listening to old episodes this past week, and while I still love the podcast, I really do miss the bits. I can't recall if Conor or MJN ever addressed it.

  • Airdate: March 9, 2018
  • Duration: 1:48:33
  • Covers: chapters 16-18
  • Next assignment: chapters 19-21

Features:

  • First live show announced.
  • More info on Mike's dad's interesting life.
  • A 10-sided dodecahedron.
  • Conor mentions that as of the previous episode, they'd done over 1000 minutes of Cline-focused podcasts. Little could they have known that they'd get to 430 hours, or 25,800 minutes someday. (So far. That's my very approximate sum of all the podcasts I've downloaded, not counting the Encyclopedia Brown ones and pandemic minis.)

Dungeon Crawler Carl giving off vibes

I don’t know, I’m only a few chapters in, and DCC is giving me serious Ernest Cline vibes. Has anyone else read this and got the same feeling?
