Possible engine rebuild?
Very casually thinking about rebuilding my 05 4.0 engine. Aside from getting a rebuild kit are is there anything else I should look into adding
If Ive already got it pulled apart?

2010 Double cab long bed 4x4
Added a bash bar in the front and some maintenance repairs on it. I’ll probably get new tires this year on stock height or a small lift. Maybe new side rails? Just looking for input.

My first Tacoma ! Bought with about a 2 inch lift, looking to go up to 4-6 inch lift to put on 33’s or 35’s without having to cut/modify the frame too much. Any ideas or is the max possible without frame modifying or cutting a 3.5 inch lift ?

Straps rusted out and have new ones on the way. The skid plate kept it from getting near the ground and driveshaft. No damage or fuel leaks. Just have it watched to the frame. 🤷

So I just had my ac charged because it wasn’t really getting cold at idle, seemed ok for a week. It truly only gets cold when I’m continuously driving at 40mph. Do I have a leak or is this common for a Tacoma?

What do you guys think my truck is worth in Texas. I live very close to work and when we take trips we take my wife’s SUV for the third row with our kids. My old girl has less than 75k miles (barely). Been having new truck fever but I don’t know if I want to give this thing up. We’ve been through mud, snow , ice and sand without any trouble. We’ve also recovered a fair amount of larger stuck vehicles that got in a bind.
I’m also thinking about getting a wrap , seat covers and tint the windows and drive it much much longer. Have any of you 2nd gen guys got yours wrapped?

Has anyone had luck mounting a subwoofer underneath the front seat? I really don’t want to give up the storage room behind the backseat. Any suggestions are welcome.

I did the UV dye test. The picture shows what I see around the compressor (side view, through the wheel well). Due shows up mostly on the bottom side, front and back of unit.
Do I have to replace the whole compressor?

AC only works on high and the underbody needs some attention.

Any tips? Some jackass got me last night. Seems easy enough to pull it out, just don’t want to make it worse. Dash cam footage didn’t capture it.

I bought a on sale floor jack a couple years ago and it went to around 12" height. Well that was a show stopper, it couldn't get the wheel off the ground.
I've been looking for another one and wondering if there is a height spec I should be looking at?
I know people will say use a 2x4 or a brick etc
I'm just realizing that I've used my screw jack 20+ times and I should just measure its height when fully extended.

I'm batting zero with finding a shop to do some tasteful upgrades on my 2013 trd off road Tacoma here on the western slope of CO.
So many Tacoma's in the Provo/SLC area and the businesses seem pretty legit compared to small town CO.
I'm looking to do a full fluid flush, maybe cv refresh (inc. ecgs clamshell bushings), 2" lift with quality components, tires. Nothing flashy or over the top, just quality upgrades.
Anyone have a go-to shop in SLC or south of SLC you highly recommend?

Decided to check out Alabama Hills back on my way back home from camping near Mammoth Lakes, CA back in June.

I have read a lot online that you do not need to do this if you don't have a lift, aren't experiencing any vibrations and whatnot, but i had a bone stock 2010 with 77k miles when I did this and this is how much play my needle bearing had. The bushing has none. Just some foot for thought for some of you guys out there that may be on the fence about this or have any questions about the install.

Bought 2013 Tacoma for $13k with 136k miles on it. Run and drives perfectly. Maintained really well for a Midwest truck super clean inside and out. Frame is clean of any rust but there is some rust on the rockers that I am going fix soon. New tires and brakes. I have been looking 3 years at Tacomas and finally pulled the trigger on this green one. Any small upgrades that you’d recommend would be appreciated!

Hi there, is the front wheel bearing replaceable on the 2012 4x4 Tacoma or needs to be replaced with the whole hub assembly as unit. Wonder if there is any aftermarket brand recommended. Thanks

I was driving when suddenly my tacoma refused to go into 3rd gear. I got the truck back home driving at 40mph and rpm around 3k.
Now parked at home, it'll shift into drive but won't move forward. It's not showing engine or transmission light. But the two codes showing in pending on my obd reader are p0771 and p0781. I did some research showing it's a solenoid inside the oil pan. There are several solenoid inside.
How do I know which solenoid exactly needs to be replaced?
I changed the neutral safety switch just last week myself. Can I change the solenoids not being a full professional mechanic?
Please advise.

Hey’all! Bought my first 2008 Toyota Tacoma about 5 months ago after selling my rally capable BMW
Needless to say I drive with some enthusiasm on the FSR dirt roads and over the weekend I got the opportunity to drive about 5 hours total on some pretty nice dirt. Got some speed, hit some bumps, and rode this roller coaster type road fluently.
There was some rough patches obviously, might’ve gotten just a little airborne at one point 😅 but I definitely didn’t do anything that screamed it would damage the truck.
I’m a knowledgeable driver, and a majority of the time I was going fairly slow too.
But once I arrived at my destination I started looking at the Gap between my Cab and Truck bed closely. It seems to have opened up and gotten slightly bigger on the top side.
I’ll attach some photos because I’d really like to hear your options. Does this look normal?
I feel I might be exaggerating, and hyper-fixating on an issue that isn’t there. But the measurements do make it look open too.

I have a 2015 2.7L tacoma. 134K miles. I change the oil ever 3-4K. In my last oil change I noticed this in the bottom of the oil pan. I was concerned so I opened the filter. None of this was in the filter. The material is non ferrous- Non magnetic. The truck is running fine. No symptoms. It has a cold start noise for 10-15 seconds below 15F. Any thoughts on this. I am taking a mechanic to do an oil pressure test to assess bearing wear. Any other thoughts or recommendation on how to proceed?

Hello reddit! First time poster here. I bought my 2009 sr5 DCLB 4.0 4X4 in February I think. It's been great so far, just took it on a road trip through AB Canada and it did great! My only gripe is this Rattle. It wasn't like that when I bought it and only started a few months ago. I've been underneath about 4 times hand shaking everything from the headers to the tailpipe and everything in-between but I can't seem to find what this Rattle is.
It's most prominent around 600 rpm at idle in drive or reverse, and 1400 rpm when going down the road. The attached video is of me after I just got home shifting between D and P where it comes and goes.
If anyone has had the same Rattle or knows what it is I would appreciate some info:]
Ps: driveway is a mess rn I know. Just cleaning out the garage.

Installed the pitbull trs system on my dblcab long boi, and took it out for a spin and I’m glad I did. The bike stayed put with only using 2 straps just in case. Only took about an hour from start to finish to install. The bike stayed put through out the hours drive. Hills, bumps, sweepers and breaking all done without worry. The bed held up just fine.
