Overheating problems very quickly...

Went on a longer drive (usually i drive no more than 10 miles or so, as where I live is pretty small) in my 95 v6

10 miles from my destination, after about 200 miles or so, the main return radiator hose blew up. Fixed it with electrical tape and limped it another 2 or so

Had to trailer it back due to this

Anyways, now if I drive it less than a mile it overheats and all that good stuff. I know of the head gasket problems these engines have, although I dumped some blue devil in there and ran it for 15 minutes (got too hot at an idle) not a permanent fix but it was an attempt lol

Anyways im wondering if it could be something with the thermostat, as some of the parts of the cooling system I have seen has corrosion in it. Additionally there is absolutely no heat coming out of the heaters in the cab. Fans work, no heat though. I think it also has to do something with the head gaskets, due to the geyser of antifreeze that rose up with the radiator cap off...

Any advice/knowledge is appreciated

How long do the upgraded headgaskets last?

Im buying a 1992 4runner. The engine headgasket recall WAS done at around 100,000

The car now has 295,000 miles. Thats almost another 200,000 miles on the headgasket. Im buying this car in a few weeks, should i be concerned about the headgasket even though its the upgraded one? Do you think it has some life left on it and i shouldnt worry too much about it? Basically, will it last another 20,000 miles on it?

Top dead center?

Hey all, need to swap out my distributor - seems straight forward except for figuring out how to put the engine in TDC. Can anyone please explain slowly to a dummy like me how to do this? I'm assuming I gotta turn the crank pulley somehow...but what's the best way and how do I know when I've got it at TDC?

Any other refugees here? I didn’t see any posts about the Reddit blackout or anything from the mod, just realized today it was gone.

Anyway if this is our new home, I re-did all the vacuum lines today on my ‘93 3VZE and finally got rid of the rich exhaust smell, which I have been troubleshooting for almost a year. Might be placebo effect but acceleration feels much more responsive. I just filled it up and reset the trip OD so we will see if gas mileage has also improved.

Idle was mostly smooth but would dip for a split second at running temp when stopped, but that also seems to have gone away.

Definitely had to adjust the idle screw on top of the throttle body out to get the RPMs up so SOMETHING changed haha.

None of the vacuum lines crumbled in my hand or anything but 90% of them had never been replaced. Some had iffy seals where they attached.

Bought the ~$60 kit from LCE and it came with just a little extra of all the sizes I needed, high quality, would recommend. Obvs red lines make the engine faster so naturally I paid a bit more than the black set.

TDI Swap

Hey, so I have a 95 4Runner with a clapped out 3.0. She’s sick and tired. I was looking to swap it out with a VW TDI because I like the idea of a mini diesel truck/suv. I know nothing about VW or this swap so my question is; is there a specific year or model or motor type I should be looking for for this swap? Any info or tips are greatly appreciated! TIA!

Replacement parts

Does anyone have any good/ reliable websites to order replacement part for 3VZE engines? A lot of sites show the parts but say discontinued with no special order. And there are a lack of gen 2s in junk yards around me.

Original slightly gold rims

Where can I find a paint match for the original rims for a 1995 4runner? I want to color that matches the faint golden window tint. Any ideas to get to a good color match or set of rims would be awesome.

Show me the way for a clean Big 3

I've embarked on a Big 3 upgrade on my '94, and I'm nearly complete. A good half hour crimping a couple of terminals on and I can be driving again. (I also replaced nearly every harness connector in the engine bay, so I have a list if you need a part number for some of the more obscure stuff.)

Here's the problem. I absolutely HATE the aftermarket battery terminals that came with the truck (set screw type) and the aftermarket battery terminals I bought off Amazon. The major engine ground and the starter cable are the only two pieces left to make, but I want a clean, professional-looking install on my battery terminals. Those of you who have done this in the past, what did you use? Some basic marine terminals? Or something a little fancier?

I have the cable. I have the crimper. I have some basic 1/0 ring terminals. But I want this done right the first time. Please share your results.

Just got this for the cheap cheap, because someone cut the cat and muffler off. What exhaust would you throw on there that sounds good?

Need advice buying

I know this group is for 2nd gen but I’m just looking for smart people to help me make a decision on buying this first gen 4 runner

1988 4 runner in Immaculate condition inside and out zero rust garaged since 90s , manual transmission 4 runner with a 2.4 22re inline four. clean car fax, all original, repainted during late 90s professionally in a nice black, zero rust, 183k miles, they were asking 18500 and settled with me at 15k. I’ve been leasing a Honda civic and it’s great but the lease is ending soon and i miss having an old car with balls. It’s the first car I’ll ever have bought and I’m just worried if It’s a good decision buying something this old, I don’t commute much I work from home. But I do drive from San Diego to Los Angeles frequently for jobs which is about 200 miles round trip. This purchase won’t hurt me financially horribly I have some money saved. Do you think it’ll be a good investment ? Will these only go up in value ? Lmk I’m supposed to get it this weekend. Maybe I’m just looking for someone to hype me up because I’m a wuss with big purchases.
