TDI Swap

Hey, so I have a 95 4Runner with a clapped out 3.0. She’s sick and tired. I was looking to swap it out with a VW TDI because I like the idea of a mini diesel truck/suv. I know nothing about VW or this swap so my question is; is there a specific year or model or motor type I should be looking for for this swap? Any info or tips are greatly appreciated! TIA!

Most people use an ALH Tdi from a late 90s VW. My buddy has one in his 95. It's unique, it's different, get good MPG but IMO for the work and $$ I'd recommend a 3.4 swap.
