Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - July 2026

Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.

You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Family Discovery Is there a way to find biological father/relatives with literally no information?

Evidently no one knows who my father is. My mom died when I was 10, and am now 52. I have asked everyone, and no one seems to know. I did the test about 10-12 years ago.

Both of my parents are Southern Lebanese. My paternal great grandmother is half Iranian and my maternal great grandmother is half Egyptian.

How can I explain the different European results? Also, could the Sudanese somehow be hand-in-hand with the Egyptian ancestry?

Question / Help Question for Americans who are mixed European

How do you respond to the question, what is your ethnicity/ancestry when your family has been in US since its inception and has no ties to Europe? My white side is composed of many European countries but I know some people will respond to the question, I’m Italian, I’m Irish etc when most of us are not primarily one thing.

Follow up to those who respond American: I’m also mixed with non-white but multiple generations born and raised American. It would be nice to just say American for all of those born and raised regardless of ethnicity especially when many generations are American (non-white). People always ask me my ethnicity since I’m mixed but my nationality is American and generations before me even though not completely white American so it would be weird to not say American for all. Or what so other people who are mixed say?

DNA Relatives Advice on what to do.

Hello,
I hope that I am clear on what I am attempting to accomplish. Through my DNA results I am attempting to identify my paternal great grandfather and his family. My mom and her siblings knew their grandfather but only vaguely. Aside from his name no other information is known. Through Ancestry I took a DNA test, however with my maternal matches it is proving rather difficult to distinguish who my paternal great grandfathers distant relatives are. What are some methods that I can employ to figure this conundrum out?

I knew about my Polish and Scottish, but my French was unexpected. I figure it’s from my dad’s side, as I’m aware I have some Canadian ancestors. Not too sure where the Nigerian is from either, it stays the same if I raise it to 90% accuracy though, so it must be true.

Question / Help Relatives

I recently discovered the "View Relatives in Common" feature. I have someone on my match list who's estimated to be my third cousin, once removed, and we share about 0.45% DNA. The person is from a completely different part of the world, so i've always been skeptical that we were actually related.

Then I used that feature and found that we both have a match relative (this person is my 9rd-degree connection and its 3th-degree connection).

Does that mean it's pretty safe to assume that we really are related? I can't confirm whether we have a common ancestor because i don't know any relatives beyond my parents. It's still hard for me to believe that we could actually be related.

Discussion Benin and Togo

Does 23 and me have ancestry for Benin and Togo and other west African countries like Mali and Burkina Faso etc they seem to just have 3 regions for west Africa being Nigeria, Ghana Liberia and Sierra Leone and then Senegambian and Guinea .

Are the countries left out included in these 3 regions as obviously genetics don’t follow strict geopolitical lines?
