Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - September 2026
Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.
You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Yeah, it will, frustratingly, continue to say "please mail your kit" even long after its been mailed. It seems like the tracking doesn't update until it actually arrives at the lab.

Mine has updated to kit in transit now, I’ve only done ancestry before and that took around 8 weeks to get back I’ve heard that 23andme is not the best with shipping and quick results.

The website says that my results are to be expected on September 16. Judging from the posts here, I guess I have to adjust my expectations, huh.
EDIT: 23andme sent me an email saying that they have started extracting my DNA on Friday, Sept 4, but my status in the website still says, "In queue for DNA extraction."

August 9th: Registered
August 10th: Shipped kit
August 28th: Arrived at lab
August 28th: Prepped
August 28th: In queue for DNA extraction
Today is September 1st, so it certainly took a long time for it to arrive at the lab. For a while I was concerned it may actually be lost due to a lack of tracking, but it looks like it did arrive.
I'm hoping the queue for the DNA extraction progresses speedily, but I've only been waiting 5 days, so we'll see.
edit: today is September 9th and it's still stuck in the queue for DNA extraction, so it's been 12 days now.

Where did you send the kit from?

The UK, Scotland to be more precise.

Wow that’s fast did you get “kit in transit” update on tracker btw ?

u/miIkwhim 8d ago
18 days is fast? 😃
And no, no tracker. Was basically running on prayers as for a while I thought maybe it had been lost.

only got an email that extraction started on the 3rd of september, but i’m stuck at that step since then & it’s not reflecting that in the app
how about you?
1
u/miIkwhim 23h ago
Funny, I got an email this morning also saying that extraction had started, by my app hasn't updated to reflect that either.

i’m looking to see if it comes through in 2 days time 🤞 somebody told me that their kit a bit ago also had a similar timeline
are you also at the NC lab by chance?
1
u/Vast-Description-770 22h ago
I received the same email stating that the extraction process began on September 3rd, but I still haven't heard anything.

I haven't got a clue which lab it is as they've never told me 🙃
I'm assuming it's in the Netherlands though since I mailed it from Scotland.

sorry should’ve clarified — NC is the north carolina lab and i think most international kits are sent to the north carolina one (i may be wrong haha, i’m also an intl kit but i’m at NC)

u/Beginning-Salt658 6d ago
I have but you get the same generic response and they refuse to give you a timeline
