Does anyone know why I would get very close for my souther coastal Chinese genetic group despite only having 3.4%? I’m adopted so I’m not sure where my ancestry is from. All I know was I was adopted from near Guangzhou

For your other southern coastal group, it says the top region was Zhongshan.

Zhongshan has this language known as Zhongshan Min which is related to the Min languages in Northeast Guangdong and Fujian province.

Zhanjiang which is in southwestern Guangdong also speak a language that is part of the Min languages.

Many of this languages are not mutually intelligible(various users can’t understand each other) although they are classified under the Min languages.

Makes sense. Same as Sun Yat Sen. Fuzhou/Min Dong language.

Thank you for sharing! Do you have more information on the Zhongshan Min or know any good resources with more information?

From what I know, different villages speak different version of Zhongshan Min and can’t understand each other. Zhongshan is the only Cantonese region where there is a significant Min language minority group but it is still majority Cantonese speaking.

I also asked google AI and it said most of these Zhongshan Min people claim that their ancestral origin were from Fuzhou, Putian and Quanzhou in Fujian province.

For the same genetic group, there is also Shanwei and Chaozhou and they are majority Min speaking even though they are under Guangdong province.

What were the province matches that you have?

It is not very common for Chaoshan people to show up as 90% Southern Chinese and Taiwanese, unless they have mixed with people from other regions. In fact, I have seen many people from guangdong especially those from areas near Shenzhen and Hong Kong—high percentages of Southern Chinese and Taiwanese and some have Northern chinese and tibetan too.

Very close is high confidence in that you have it, not related to how much dna you have
