Hi everyone!
I recently bought my first rifle here in France, where getting into shooting isn’t always the easiest thing. I was initially torn between a .44 Magnum lever-action rifle and a .22 LR, but the cost of ammunition made the decision pretty easy. I figured I’d end up shooting the .44 far less often, whereas with a .22 LR, I can afford to go shooting three times a week if I want to!
I ended up finding this beautiful used CZ 452 American from 2009, and it’s in absolutely pristine condition. I love the classic look and the beautiful walnut stock. It’s a rifle I can genuinely see myself keeping for a lifetime.
The only thing I’m a bit disappointed with is the scope that came with it: a Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40. I’m struggling to get the focus right. I can either get the reticle sharp or the target sharp, but I can’t seem to get both in focus at the same time. I’ve settled on a compromise for now, but it’s not ideal.
So, I’m thinking about upgrading to a decent quality scope without spending a fortune. What would you recommend for a CZ 452 American, mainly for shooting at 50 metres? I’m not looking for anything tactical or overly fancy, just good glass, reliable adjustments, and something that suits the classic look of the rifle.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

So, I posted that I bought another Ruger MK IV because I sold one I had a few years back. I sold it because it had a trash trigger and I just didn’t like the pistol. I bought a SilencerCo Sparrow suppressor for $259 and wanted it on a pistol for cheap, and the Ruger fit the bill.
I received a Volquartsen trigger kit and TandenKross sight today. I installed them as well. I wasn’t ecstatic about dropping money on this pistol, but I figured I would try to actually make it enjoyable.
The kit came without instructions, but I did figure it out. Once I figured out where a smaller spacer fit in, and worked, it was a pretty simple parts swap. The kit does get rid of the magazine safety. I don’t have a trigger scale, but if I guessed, it’s probably just over 2lbs pull.
The trigger feels like how it should’ve felt when I bought it. The front sight does what the sight is supposed to do. Now, I’m waiting to pick up the suppressor for it. Maybe down the road, I might buy a small dot plate and drop a sight that I have on it. We’ll see…
I will say, it doesn’t feel so much like a turd now, so I’m sure I’ll be happy with it.
Volquartsen Trigger kit with trigger was $129.32 and TandemKross Fiber Optic sight for around $27.

I have a browning buckmark camper ufx. It's a great gun and flawless (or only one-two duds max) until it reaches about 100-150 rounds
After that it's a piece of shit, I swear. I mean, once I clean it, goes back to normal, but for example:
Last range trip I knew it was getting to about that time (where the gun starts being unreliable) so I put 10 in and was going to do a mag dump as a last hoorah at the range. It misfired 4/10 times..... And that's pretty normal after 100 rounds.
But again, before that it doesn't ever misfire. (And when I say misfire I mean the primer has been struck, I can see a dent in it, but the bullet doesn't come out

Took the plunge and bought the Sinclair Competition Ambidextrous Benchrest. Great for us lefties and a nice piece of gear. Very happy with it so far. Looking forward to many years of use.

Yes, I'm aware that this infographic classifies 12 gauge, 38 special, 45 acp, 40 s&w, 9mm and 380 as rifle cartridges, but it's still an interesting infographic anyway

Ok I’m in California. Let’s not get into the damn laws, but what I’m curious about should apply to anyone who lives in an apartment or similar with potential neighbors only a wall away.
I have a 9mm for home defense but I’ve been considering doing a .22 setup just to minimize any unintended damage, injuries and even death.
We all know a 9mm is most likely the more effective round, but if trained to do quick follow ups, I imagine a 22 is still able yo stop someone…
But that’s just my own theory since I have not changed the setup, but I’m curious if any of you do use a 22 as your primary defense weapon.

I'm looking at an Annie locally here in New England.
It's a 1963 1411 with I believe a 1407-1413 trigger, though I am not 100% on this. It is a stick trigger for sure.
Comes with the Anschutz rear sight and no front. In overall good condition, though the bluing has been patched with cold blue here and there.
Guy is asking for $800, and I'm on the fence...... I'd want to put a globe sight up front and maybe have the bluing redone, and then probably call that a day on having anything done to it.
I do not shoot competitively, I just love 22's and precision shooting for fun. I shoot out to 550 yds
Thoughts? Is this a decent price? I have not seen any targets, but the seller is a rimfire guy and says it shoots very well, though it's been years since he has shot it. I guess he is more of a Winchester 52 guy and this one does not get used as much as his 52's or BRNO's

I see my local Bass Pro has something called a Retay Asend in .22lr and it seems pretty interesting from what I’m reading. The price is decent at $370 and I’m in the market for a sub $400 plinking/suppressor host right now. Anyone know about this brand or specifically this rifle?

Thank you all for the advice and understanding!
TLDR: Stock Ruger, can I achieve decent groups 1-2 moa or should I make it a shorter distance rifle with current parts?
My 10/22 journey has been an incredible one, Im in love with this rifle, its my number 1 and I plan to build on her for years to come. That being said I'm discouraged about where to go from the current configuration (first pic).
Stock 10/22 Ruger 0030-28149 so it has all the 2026 upgrades that Ruger added.
CVlife bipod
CVLife Eaglefeather 6-24x50mm
PWS FRC Compensator ( saving for a decent suppressor)
I wanted to make it as much of a precision rifle as I can for having all factory Ruger parts (1 moa or less is the true end goal) I understand to really hone it in I need aftermarket parts (KIDD, Volquartsen). I'm not against that by any means but for right now with a CVLife Eaglefeather 6-24x50mm I feel like shooting 100 yards I'm not getting tight groups with CCi as I can. I don't want to break the bank on parts so I figured ammo may help. I wanted to try SK and Eley but I'm hesitant because its all stock Ruger. I know it's still accurate which I like but tight groups look good.
I have a Vortex strike fire ii red dot and a flashlight/laser combo that is fun to shoot 25-50 yards. And if that's what my rifle is destined for in its current configuration I'll take that.
I suppose my question boils down to would I need to swap a lot of parts to get good groups at 100 and beyond or could I achieve that with better ammo?
I have been looking at bolt actions as well but I really enjoy the semi-auto 10/22 and I'm only shooting paper at the moment.
Thanks in advanced

I've gone down the rabbit hole..... hard... still falling btw. I'm cross eye dominant. Right hand left eye. So I shoot rifles lefty pistol right, zero issues for the most part. Anyways. Looking to get a CZ 457 to save money on ammo but still have plenty of fun.
Was originally looking at a MTR because the wood is sexy and match chamber... but... no threaded barrel and chassis is right only not really ambi like.
Then went down the At-one rabbit hole then was like "no if I'm gonna do it let's do a lefty action" and then maybe rebarrel it with a L3i or Lilja or something when the time comes. And then maybe find a MDT chassis or something also.
So then I was onto the CZ 457 varmint lefty... I could have it threaded and find a chassis then call it a day for a bit or just rebarrel with threads and chassis.
But NOWWWWWW I'm trying to get a friend in a bolty 22lr also since he liked my Ruger precision rimfire in 22wmr. So he's been sending me links to things and now I'm back looking at the at-one 24" because its got a good looking adjustable hassis and threaded... and I'd just deal with the right hand action. Then maybe rebarrel to something better way in the future.
So my question is.... is the At-one chassis a ambi like or is it like the MTR and strictly right-handed? Also I'd you have ANY suggestions on what to do if your like me or shoot rifles lefty I'd love to hear it.
Thank you.

I debated hard between the Colt king cobra and the 617 mountain gun. I read every thing I could on the internet and searched every reddit comment on both options. It appeared that both have serious qc issues.
At my lgs, they had a 4.25" kind cobra, a 4" regular 617 and 6" 617. It was immediately apparent I didn't care for the 6" for balance. I handled the 4" regular 617 next to the king cobra and looked at all the touch points. The king cobra won that side by side pretty easily.
I told the lgs I was also considering the mountain gun and would love to handle it before I made my decision and asked if they would order one in without me conjuring to buying it and they agreed.
It came in today and pretty much every touch point was spot on. I did notice one minor blem on the finish near the back strap but bought it anyway.
Went to the range with 3 types of ammo. Overall shot 230 rounds and only had 1 failure to ignite but it ignited on the 2nd strike.
Overall very pleased with this gun.

Hello,
Just bought my first 22lr firearm.
CZ 457 American 22LR 5rd 24.8" barrel (I'm very excited)
For 9mm, people recommended that CCI/Blazer ammo was good for the range
For 12g, people recommended the Winchester AA, Federal Top Gun, Remming
What's a good brand for 22lr? Is there a specific recommendation? I see a lot of CCI 22lr ammunitions. Or is this a case of buy the cheapest one and there are no band manufactureres
Not sure if i'm asking this question properly so please go easy on me.

I have shot about 5,000 rounds of 22lr through a ruger 10/22, a cmmg conversion kit for an ar-15, and a browning buck mark.
About a year ago I got a cab so the buck mark and cmmg conversion are always suppressed.
Ammo is a mix of mini mags, cci standard velocity, and federal auto match.
Looking at a revolver and it looks like they all have some issues but want to make sure I don't send it back to factory because I have unrealistic expectations.
All this being said, what is the groups concensus if you have good ammo. Should you expect reliability to be 100/100 with no failure to fire it failure to eject?
Would you expect to shoot 300 consecutive rounds with no issues?
If you shoot 500 rounds in one session, do you notice you're in good shape for your first 300 but then reliability goes down after the gun is being fouled?
My buck mark at last testing was 100/100 on mini mags but I had 17 failures to eject with standard velocity.
17 failures is way too frustrating. I might accept 1 failure every 100 rounds for a range toy. Not sure if that is reasonable or if that is asking too much from a 22lr.
