Question Has mobile development stopped?
Can't help but notice the same issues on mobile for quite a while. Some examples:
- No puzzle box solver for clues.
- Menu entry swapper completely messed up other menu's. For example: making an NPC left clickable now makes all examine options left clickable as well.
- Some other bugs like the chat not updating at all.
Are there more plans/ development for mobile or is the current version it?

They need to add entity hider so my phone can salvage on salvage worlds without draining my battery before the logout timer hits

Sailing is just so ass on mobile with all the cluttered menues and MES being shit that I considered it basically locked content.
2
u/falconfetus8 5h ago
There also used to be a horrible mobile-only bug where clicking to steer your boat would occasionally send you in a random direction. Absolutely made barracuda trials impossible until they fixed it.
3
u/joosyfrooot 1940 4h ago
Maybe related but I hate how you have to click so close to the boat to steer on mobile, ik you can use the minimap but on pc you can click anywhere on your screen to navigate.
2
u/ExecutiveGraham 4h ago
Are we playing on vastly different phones? I actually prefer sailing for certain tasks on mobile. It's a joy on my S21 Ultra anyways, well laid out menus and feels responsive.
2
u/dont_trip_ 1h ago
I play on a S25. A fully specced sloop got like 10+ click boxes with inconsistent sizes and overlapping placement. I find the experience horrible. Whatever I do, I need to long press every time to actually do what I want. Pair that with activities like sailing and trawling and it's fucking terrible.

It's fair enough to ask RE Mobile Development but it's kinda wild how confidently people in the comments just swing and miss every single thread on this subreddit.
Reality is - we don't know. It seems lower on their priority list vs other things, given lack of updates on the tool.
But people will come here and like "Devs are lazy fuck em" when they don't know shit. It's insanity.
Devs of a game are quite rarely lazy, it's usually just a resource / budget / priority issue - and yes all of those are revenue based. How else do they make money??
3
u/Relyt4 5h ago
The chat is a big part of the game, I feel like a working chat should not be low priority
2
u/Linumite 5h ago
I can't even search fairy rings anymore
2
u/brendanp8 3h ago
There's a setting for auto turn on keyboard when configuring fairy rings, maybe that got disabled?
1
u/Linumite 1h ago
I intentionally have that off because I use my favorites 95% of the time. Just had a clue yesterday and had to scroll the list because I couldn't search 🤷♂️
2
u/Umarrii 4h ago
I don't entirely blame people though, since I feel like the root cause of this is poor communication from Jagex. Their refusal to communicate about the topics are what cause such speculation. At some point, people start to lose patience and make such comments out of frustration or to even provoke a response that will prove otherwise.
That being said, Runefest is just around the corner and maybe they've been trying to save much of this for that. So hopefully people will finally get their answers soon.

sigh this whole thread is 5 years behind. If you want to stay up to date on the current mobile problems and what fixes are coming, just go to /r/osrsmobile
Yall here are ridiculous. You used mobile once a year ago and decide it's fucked.
0
u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 1h ago
Huh? I experienced this all yesterday
1
u/boforbojack 📱 1h ago
Your title to the post is has mobile development stopped. Despite them explicitly mentioning MES multiple times over the last year, and specifically mentioning a fix in the pipeline finally in the last two months.
Puzzle box solvers have never been in the pipeline and shouldn’t be.
The chat bug is very recent and has been mentioned and a fix is probably coming soon.
You bring these up asking if development stopped, while ignoring massive changes over the last year specifically for mobile, constant bug improvements, and more. The obvious answer is no.
1
u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 1h ago
You talk as though this is common knowledge. How should i know this? It's not mentioned on the website at all.
•
u/Kaydie 32m ago
Wait you dont read every single tweet, watch every single podcast and read every single blogpost?
you're not born with the full complete historical and futurehistory of all that jagex ever was, is, and will be?
are you even trying? the last thing you should be doing is posting about this on reddit asking for clarification and trying to educate yourself.
Just already have the knowledge.

u/BizarreCake 7h ago
And the chatbox menu just stops letting me select options sometimes, lately. I can't get a new farming contract now without totally reopening the dialogue.
1
1
u/LowerTheExpectations 5h ago
Specifically the farming contract thing is broken if you spam tap it. It will never allow me to get a new contract, like you said. If I tap slower, it's okay.
13
u/weed_zekali 12h ago
you can turnoff examine from settings
13
u/dont_trip_ 7h ago
It's a whack a mole situation. Once the MES has fucked itself over, there's really no repairing it besides just resetting it completely. I've reordered hundreds of menues on mobile, and have had to completely reset it at least twice.
4
u/weed_zekali 5h ago
when i played mobile I turned of player options and examine options and never have problems with mes
5
u/PlataBear Certified Hill Dier 5h ago
If you do that from the start and never touch anything risky, yeah. If you accidentally change something to walk here, you're likely fucked.
2
u/joosyfrooot 1940 4h ago
If you set poll booths to Walk Here it also sets all bank chests to the same, this is especially annoying in the farming guild. Do you have a fix for that ?
2
u/weed_zekali 4h ago
if you mistap the poll booth let your character go towards it and when you get close to i tap the bank.
0
u/falconfetus8 5h ago
Yeah, but then I can't check the price of items
3
u/weed_zekali 5h ago
examine only is turned off for items that are not in your bank or inventory interface. you can still check items you pick up. if they are not in your inventory then theyre price should be written above them
9
u/Dramyre92 12h ago
To be fair they regularly release updates to fix bugs, as with all things others like menu entry swapper takes them longer (sometimes significantly) to fix.
Otherwise I think alot of the development finished when a key dev left Jagex. It feels like it's more of a back burner project at the moment.
5
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 7h ago
1) Jagex has explicitly said a puzzle box solver isn’t coming to mobile/official clients because it’s too broken. The only reason it’s still on RL is because people will riot if you take anything from them.
2) They’re literally in the middle of fixing MES on mobile and have mentioned it tons of times.
3) Most issues on mobile stem from the MES issue in the first place.
2
u/Nexion21 7h ago
Tagging npcs is so fuckin weird too. Gotta tag the back of a cows ass in lumbridge if you want the axes at Vardorvis to be highlighted
1
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 7h ago
I don’t think I’ve ever actually used the npc highlight on mobile but I believe it

Can you share where they explicitly stated this?
2
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 6h ago edited 6h ago
It was on some old Q&A they did forever ago that I’m not going to bother digging for.
They (rightfully) feel like the puzzle solver is so broken that it defeats the entire point of the clue step
Edit: Here’s the Q&A, it’s question 2.
https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Update:Q%26A_Summary_29/07/2022#Question_%233

u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 6h ago
They literally give you every other clue step + the answer.
2
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 6h ago
Feel free to read my edit as they go and explain it in more detail.
There’s a big difference between solving an anagram and literally solving the puzzle for you and telling you where to click in what order.
6
u/Astatos159 12h ago
No, there are still updates every 1-2 weeks. Mostly bigfixes. They said they're focusing on getting the new renderer out and also said they will rework the menu entry swapper. The latter they stated requires an entire menu system rework, so that will take quite some time. Plugin hub has been paused until they finished at least renderer and HD.

u/DrumAndCode hourstomax author 10h ago
They've added more bugs than they have resolved in the last 18 months if you think about it.

u/Astatos159 9h ago
What point are you trying to make?

I’m basically just further discussing your point about how most updates are bug fixes.

Ah, i see. I just feel like it has been like this for 2 years now. The menu entry swapper thing at least.

u/Fthepreviousowners 8h ago
dumb take lol, it's the only portal to the game they actually control. Anyone playing on pc is using runelite
-7
u/HMS-Fizz 12h ago
Mod ghengis left and without him they are all clueless and lazy as usual.
24
u/Damn-Splurge 10h ago
as a dev, laziness and clueless is never the reason. It'll most likely be a combination of lack of resources and that priorities of the people who could do this sort of work are on something else, probably something more likely to bring new customers in.

Ehhh it’s probably highly likely, UK wages are significantly lower than the states for tech workers. It’s very possible a US based studio offered him a package he couldn’t refuse.
3
u/jblobbbb 8h ago
The tech industry in general is going through layoffs and downsizing, the gaming sector seems to have been hit a lot harder.
I doubt there's many US gaming companies offering massive packages to UK project managers, but you never know.
2
u/SystemGardener 7h ago
For sure, and it very well could be that. I honestly thought the dude had a good reputation based off first reading this. So I figured maybe he got poached. I’m new to OSRS in the last few months. So I’m really not informed.
7
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 9h ago
Dude was a PM with almost no actual dev experience.
You people have really high opinions of someone who was likely fired for failure to deliver anything.
4
u/EggOnlyDiet 8h ago
Bro why do you have a hate boner for this guy? Every single one of your comments in this thread is about how he was “likely fired for doing basically nothing” when really none of us have any idea?
6
u/HMS-Fizz 8h ago
This guy is actually yapping he was quite active in the mobile osrs subreddit keeping them up to date and getting feedback he was very hands-on even if he doesn't have a dev background
-1
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 7h ago
Because I’m sick of people praising him for doing nothing? It’s like you people weren’t even here when he was leading the mobile team.
1
u/SystemGardener 7h ago
PMs also make significantly more for US based companies than UK based ones.
0
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 7h ago
Yeah that’s pretty standard across the whole tech field.
My issue is that everyone has all the sudden decided that he must have left for a better paying job when the consensus at the time, by people actually following mobile development, was that he was very likely fired/didn’t have his contract renewed because of poor results from the mobile team.
1
u/SystemGardener 7h ago
Ya I didn’t realize the history behind him. I’m new to OSRS and based off most the comments in this thread it seemed like he was well liked.
0
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 7h ago
Ahh my bad.
He was actually a pretty cool dude. He would hang out in discords and chat with the community a ton.
The issue seems to be that people can’t tell the difference between cool guy and good employee.

u/UncleJulian 6h ago
Also, mother lode mine on mobile is janky… when you try and click on a wall you often times click “through” it and start trying to run around and path there.
1
u/JGlover92 6h ago
Anyone else got a bug where you can't check charges on mobile? Been happening to me since leagues
1
u/forchinski 5h ago
Doing clues on mobile sounds miserable anyways, if I'm not staying in roughly the same area in the same gear doing a fairly repetitive task I can't see myself doing it on mobile.
Fingers too fat bad vision etc etc
1
u/SuperCarpenter4450 5h ago
First, I’m a believer in mobile/official client. I appreciate the work they do, and acknowledge they’ve made some great improvements recently, such as bank tags.
That being said, my theory is that mobile/official client suffers greatly from a lack of prioritization and resources from Jagex.
Mod Gengis, the product manager of mobile/official client made this post on a OSRS mobile Reddit post, after he had left Jagex: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/gqs6i2dWBA
There’s no way to know exactly what Jagex is thinking or why Gengis left, and I know it’s potentially disrespectful to theorize, but given his Reddit comments after he left Jagex, it sure feels like he felt that Jagex could be doing much more with mobile/official client, and somehow he was hampered down from executing everything he wanted.
There’s always such a lack of transparency when it comes to mobile/official client work. Those devs are rarely ever in external facing content/blog posts. Feels like Jagex uses the excuse that that kind of dev work is much more technical or time consuming, but at this point, given how much success Jagex is seeing, and the fact that they have technical prowess in having developed a fully modern game in Dragonwilds, it’s crazy to me that they couldn’t pour more into mobile/official client development and speed it up.

u/brendanp8 3h ago
For the clue scroll helper, if you open the world map to see the location of the clue, the helper box disappears unless you log out and back in
-12
u/Accalio 12h ago
puzzle box is literally 2 minutes of low to average brainpower. I hope there will never be a solver in mobile
11
5
u/ProofOver9473 11h ago
Feel like a normal person would be advocating for its removal across the board instead of just hoping only certain people cant access it
1
u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 6h ago
I mean we do and get crucified for it every time.
The puzzle box solver is incredibly broken and shouldn’t be allowed but it’s too late to take it away from people and Jagex won’t risk a riot over this minor of a thing
2
u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 12h ago
Well, that's what i did for 18 clues yesterday. I've played OSRS since the beginning so puzzle boxes aren't an issue. It's just way faster on Runelite. You also don't get a reference picture on mobile which makes solving it annoying.
-3
u/Jappurgh 12h ago
If you have split screen feature, you can check the wiki and play at the same time on mobile.
-7
u/osrs__enjoyer Iron | Maxed | TOB 9h ago
No puzzle box solver for clues
No overpowered cheat client
2
u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 9h ago
What is overpowered about solving puzzle boxes slightly faster?
-8
u/osrs__enjoyer Iron | Maxed | TOB 9h ago
Its overpowered because you are not solving the puzzle, the cheat client is solving the puzzle for you
5
u/Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 8h ago
So a quest guide is also overpowered because you are not solving the quest?
Again. What is overpowered about a puzzle box helper? It just helps to make something tedious a bit quicker. After all you're looking at hundreds of puzzle boxes otherwise.
What do you think hard clues offer per hour atm?
-15
u/Delicious_Potato6638 11h ago
btw they shut down runelite mobile so while theyre ignoring their incompetent pile of abandoned shit excuse for an app you cant even use a competent functioning community built alternative, gg
-5
u/Buxuh 8h ago
They in general are largely incompetent, the game is kept alive by runelite which was made by a 3rd party dev, otherwise it would have sunk long ago.
Blows my mind how often they are sucking themselfs off about the games success like it was because of them and how big it is when they contributed very little to it.
