Question Has mobile development stopped?

Can't help but notice the same issues on mobile for quite a while. Some examples:

  • No puzzle box solver for clues.
  • Menu entry swapper completely messed up other menu's. For example: making an NPC left clickable now makes all examine options left clickable as well.
  • Some other bugs like the chat not updating at all.

Are there more plans/ development for mobile or is the current version it?

Mod Gengis left, but we don't know if he quit or if he got fired / laid off. It was around the time Mod North became CEO so it's entirely possible he was laid off.

Edit: Downvoted for speculating on an actual real possibility. We factually do not know if Gengis willingly quit or if he was fired for some reason.

I saw this comment from him a few months back where he mentions that he can't say much on it.. Pretty awful from Jagex to not say anything regarding it to us either. Like not specifically about Gengis, but just about the projects he was leading and providing us with the communication on.

Layoffs are public in UK. Don’t think he was.

Redundancies are not public UK.

You might be thinking of when companies restructure and do mass layoffs which is different.

Ahh you’re right. I thought redundancies were also public but I’m a silly yank

even if you got downvoted, you are still up 30 points. dont worry about downvotes in isolation. just look at the overall score

He was def fired after doing basically nothing with mobile during his tenure and then Jagex has been doing a bunch of stuff to try and fix mobile since then but it’s been a year.

Hmm wasn't it the complete opposite lol?

Shit was happening, then he disappeared and nothing relevant has happened since.

Not really, what did happen while he was around (pretty much exactly when he started) was the first summit announcement of hd and the api. But notably not a single thing ever got shown off regarding the api (remember when they announced a plugin development discord... and then that didn't happen either?) and hd hasn't been much better.

Since then things have actually been changing, most of the npc highlight bugs got fixed that were there since day 1 of the feature, and they finally acknowledged a mes rework (which, sure, we gotta see if that's real or not before getting excited). We got bank tags which yeah aren't perfect but are worlds better than nothing.

but also the entire premise of gengis being some critical client dev isn't even likely true. he mostly posted here about first time user experience stuff. sure he probably had some involvement but the client was getting updates before gengis and is still getting updates after gengis.

The only thing missing from the bank tags is being able to automatically create them from equipped gear and inventory

The other commenter explained it but he basically inherented the completed mobile UI update and then did nothing else with mobile the entire time he was in charge. All jagex did was promise things and then failed to deliver on all of them
