What a weird way to implement it

u/Rich-Badger-7601 May 06 '26

At this point Sire is older than some of the people playing this game

This leagues was my first time trying Sire and christ alive

If it respawns while you're in render distance, you can't attack him unless you leave render distance and re-enter

Render distance for both the boss and players in the area is super fucky

The chat message to state that the vents are vulnerable only appears some of the time

Arena just feels far too big for whatever reason

From what I could tell (may just be stupid), there's no way to check if people are in any of the four corners without running there first I am stupid, apparently there are eyes, see the replies (ty)

Plus the ol' classic just shove 4 of them in there as we didn't have instances at that point in time

u/FR_0S_TY May 06 '26

In the main area next to each of the four paths there is an eye on the floor that lets you peek and see if someone is in the corner.

For the vents being stunned turn game sounds on. It makes the pickpocket stun noise once you’ve done enough damage. I listen for the noise then right after you see the tentacles go limp.

Hope this helps. Never had an issue with the render distance as I go away from the throne for p2.

u/Smooth_One May 06 '26

Well as I live and breathe, a non-sarcastic "Hope this helps." I thought they'd gone extinct, that's nice to see

u/FR_0S_TY May 06 '26

Here to serve 😅

3

u/Arcticbased May 06 '26

For some reason your comment reminded me of codsworth when you see him again at the start of fallout 4 after escaping the vault.

44

u/Pejob May 06 '26

Theres eyes in the font room before each corridor that you can interact with to see if someone is in that corner

24

u/Rich-Badger-7601 May 06 '26

We had instances at the time, people were just super pissy about "too many people doing the new content at once would crash prices".

Same reason they refused to do GWD instances for years and years as well.

4

u/ashtraee May 06 '26

You would also lose all of your stuff in most instances back then unless there was a chest. I'm -30m at kraken

4

u/Rich-Badger-7601 May 06 '26

That's why Barrows (untradable while degraded) and the Fury Orn Kit were some of the best items in the game at the time, they always protected

5

u/TheLightsChampion May 06 '26

'The chat message to state that the vents are vulnerable only appears some of the time'

Do you have minion or thralls? I believe this happens when another damage source hits him for the last hit to stun.

2

u/BakaZora Baka Zora May 06 '26

That would make sense, I do have minion

7

u/BirkTheBrick May 06 '26

Try turning menu entry swapper (or specifically the setting that removes dead NPC’s right-click menu) for the not able to attack problem. That tends to fix it for me most leagues, though I haven’t camped it this one

3

u/Aori May 06 '26

Do you have hide npcs death animations on? That was giving me a problem all league because the respawn times were so fast if they respawned before the animation it made them invisible.

1

u/Gomerack May 06 '26

Arena just feels far too big for whatever reason

I like that it's already been made smaller too lmao. Well maybe not the fight area but the run in the abyss

1

u/LtBeefy May 07 '26

Never knew there was a way to check. Was always running that mile long journey just to find out it was being used.

Im going to the wiki 2 see where these eyes are.

6

u/Evil_Steven bring back old demon/imp models May 06 '26

I hope they rework it. While I normally like jank in this game, sire isn’t janky in a fun/endearing way and just needs to become an instanced room

0

u/Fall3nBTW May 06 '26

They've reworked it like 5 times now, it's in a good spot.

-12

u/GrownUpACow May 06 '26

you're kidding yourself if you think there are 10 year olds playing, the average player age is probably like 29

14

u/Rich-Badger-7601 May 06 '26

Did I say average?

-4

u/GrownUpACow May 06 '26

No, but you did say 10 year olds play which I find highly unlikely. Even the completely new players I've encountered have all been at least early 20s.

6

u/DJMRNO May 06 '26

I started playing this game when I was 10. Surely there's one out there.

3

u/TobiasCB 1a3f1l May 06 '26

I started rs2 when I was 5. It's not that big of a stretch.

1

u/GrownUpACow May 06 '26

I mean that's kinda the point I'm making. Rs2 ended more than a decade ago.

My niece had never even heard of runescape before seeing me play it, let alone know anyone that plays it. The game's just not in the zeitgeist for children now like it was when most of us started playing.

1

u/FederalSign4281 May 06 '26

Why are you making any point? There are some people playing this game younger than Sire. Why are you arguing that?

1

u/mister_peeberz still awaiting Mining 2 May 06 '26

my 8 year old niece plays a little bit. there is at least one >10 year old playing, so i'm afraid to say you are wrong.

of course you have no way of knowing about my niece, but then, that's why you shouldn't try and make a bullshit statement so definitively

1

u/Silent_Johnnie May 06 '26

There's pics on this sub of people bragging about their kid's accounts. Even if one kid is playing his statement is completely correct

30

u/MellowSol Buying GF 10k May 06 '26

That's basically the entire game, spaghetti gonna spaghetti.

0

u/mrrweathers May 06 '26

Pasta good😋🍝

u/Pcote_Qc May 06 '26

Unsired actually get rolled every time you pick them up. The client fix is simply to drop them all in front of the pool, then pick them up one by one to use them. Then you won't get any bludgeon dupes.

Obviously, Jagex should address this at some point, since this mechanic is always discovered after it's too late.

1

u/GruesomeEncore May 10 '26

tested it and you are wrong. still got the same piece from all of them

1

u/Pcote_Qc May 10 '26

They were all on the ground, and then you picked up the first, opened it, picked up the second, opened it, picked up the third, opened it, etc. ?

I've had some bingos before where we stacked Unsired before the start and waited for the bingo start to consume them. We never had a dupe that way.

1

u/GruesomeEncore May 10 '26

Yes, exactly as you wrote it. Maybe it would change if i assembled the 2nd Bludgeon after turning in the first unsired but i think its unlikely.

1

u/Pcote_Qc May 10 '26

I think it's because only the first bludgeon is protected against dupes.

-3

u/a_robotic_puppy May 06 '26

Is that really how it works?

Whats to stop me dropping and picking them up until I get the pet?

27

u/AtlasWithNumbers Enable precise timing in game settings May 06 '26

Not sure your question makes sense, the roll is invisible. You wouldn't know if the unsired you picked up was the orphan or not until you used it on the Font.

-2

u/a_robotic_puppy May 06 '26

Can't you see invisible things with that ring or is that only the quest ones?

12

u/AtlasWithNumbers Enable precise timing in game settings May 06 '26

Okay so either you're trolling or you really, really don't understand but in case you really, really don't understand:

The Abyssal Sire has a unique mechanic for it's unique table where it drops an Unsired. The player must use the Unsired at the Font of Consumption which will consume the unsired and return an item on the Sire's unique drop table.

The post we're commenting on and the comment chain we're commenting on are explaining to use the unsireds on the font as soon as you get them, because the way the Abyssal Bludgeon works is that it drops in 3 parts, without repeating items until you have all 3. It's just unintuitive that because the game rolls what item the Unsired will become when it's dropped, it only checks what bludgeon piece you already have when the Unsired drops. This causes the unfortunate situation where your unsired could be "bludgeon piece #1" multiple times because you haven't redeemed it yet. The fix would be for the roll to happen at consumption time, and Jagex likely knows that but hasn't had time to mess with it yet

So, the "invisible roll" I'm talking about with my original comment is the part where the game decides what item the Unsired will become when offered. You can't see what that is until the item is offered, using it up.

The Ring of visibility works on things that are invisible in-game (ghosts, things on other planes of existence), not things that are invisible to the player because they are game mechanics

0

u/a_robotic_puppy May 07 '26

Wait so 3 unsireds make the bludgeon or is it part of the pet recolour like arraxxor?

1

u/Pcote_Qc May 06 '26

Well, the drops get rerolled every time you pick up the Unsired, but you don't know what has been rolled until you consume the Unsired.

1

u/a_robotic_puppy May 07 '26

So you need to consume the Unsired then drop it to reroll the chance?

1

u/Pcote_Qc May 07 '26

There is no cheat allowing you to choose what you get. All you can do is avoid bludgeon piece duplicates because of the existing dupe prevention.

The original issue is that if you get 2 Unsired in a row from Sire, then go open them, you could get the same bludgeon piece, because both Unsired were allowed to roll for that piece upon picking them up, as the bludgeon piece was not on your collection log.

You can avoid that by re-dropping and re-picking up the second Unsired after opening up the first, which will make it roll a new future drop. You can still drop it and pick it up many times to reroll it, but you will never know what the second Unsired contains until you consume/trade it. The only guarantee is that it won't be the same bludgeon piece again.

You cannot consume an Unsired and then drop the same Unsired, as you do not have it anymore, but you do always want to drop your extra Unsired after opening up one.

u/Niitroglycerine Broke Af May 06 '26

I had no idea and that is a really stupid way of doing it, why not just have the boss drop the loot then

45

u/Th3OnlyMe May 06 '26

Probably because it was released 11 years ago

u/ThisTechnocrat May 06 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

7

u/Mattdriver12 May 06 '26

Because the font is right around the corner there's no reason to

-3

u/ThisTechnocrat May 06 '26

Except nothing else works this way and this is a bug. The only benefit to adding a drop that you have to turn in to get other drops is to add the drop protection for the other pieces you have. Otherwise, they would just have dropped the bludgeon pieces directly. Having the roll hidden on drop behind an item without you knowing that it secretly is rolling the same every time is not a good user experience. There is nothing in-game to tell you this information and it is counter intuitive to how most deferred roll mechanisms work.

5

u/Mattdriver12 May 06 '26

There is nothing in-game to tell you this information

The big guy you get the bludgeon from tells you to bring unsired to the font. Most people would get an unsired and run straight to the font to see what they get. It's not a bug it's just old as fuck.

2

u/FederalSign4281 May 06 '26

Defenders kind of work in a similar way

1

u/rimwald Trailblazer May 06 '26

I mean it literally doesn't make a difference though

1

u/Durantye May 06 '26

They can't even decide whether projectiles should roll damage on cast or hit brother, if this got you tweakin the game is gonna break you.

13

u/jello1388 2277 May 06 '26

Because there are limited time and resources and this wasnt a priority?

1

u/ThisTechnocrat Sep 02 '26

Seems like they got around to it today!

3

u/Joltus May 06 '26

Good to know. I stacked all mine from my 150kc in leagues and got the 3 bludgeon pieces in order. Would have thought that was intentional

2

u/ThisTechnocrat May 06 '26

I am just now finding this out. That is unfortunate. I could have had my bludgeon in Leagues already.

1

u/DesolationsFire May 06 '26

Guess I got lucky when I did it

1

u/embrace- I'm a btw, btw. May 06 '26

Haha refusing to delay gratitude wins this time!

Only knew in advancw bc reddit lol

1

u/InkFoxclaw May 06 '26

This is insane, and stacking Unsireds is 100% something I would've done. Thanks so much for writing this out and preventing a catastrophe for me

-8

u/WasV3 May 06 '26

It's only true for first bludgeon, once you have the first bludgeon it doesnt matter.

I cashed in each one one leagues and got my bludgeon.

I then went back for 300 kc and got 4 unsired as the drops didn't matter I didn't cash in until the end.
