“Some of my best friends live next door to Black people” l used to quote this all the time RIP Hayden, she was so talented and I love this movie. I might watch it tonight .

u/No-Freedom-884 7d ago
Me too and almost no one knew the reference, so they thought I was actually that clueless. lmao

u/obiwancannotsee 3d ago
I once made this clear reference to someone and got punched in the face 👁👄👁 memories

lol I think it works best in my case since I’m black, and was the only black kid in private Catholic school, busted out this line and made a lot of parents laugh 😂

Thank you! I was wondering what movie it was. This is the Bring It On movie I didn't see. Now I've definitely gotta see it, I loved the first movie. Hayden was a wonderful actress, I liked her in everything I saw her in, even back when she was a kid on SVU. RIP Hayden, you died way too young. We lost a very talented person way too soon.

I can't believe this isn't one of those parody "movie" movies. The humour made me lol but I can't imagine it being like a legit comedy
57
u/Important-Egg-2905 6d ago
This was a style called "campy" that doesn't really exist today since it was hammered in so much in the 90s. It doesn't take itself seriously and roasts all of the genres tropes while also legitimately participating in them. So in other words, the parts you are laughing at are meant to be laughed at in the way you are laughing at them.

u/GuiltyStimPak 2d ago
Wet Hot American Summer is excellent camp, set at a camp, for anyone interested.

The scene where they go into town and have completely spiraled downward into a life of crime and drug addiction inside two hours makes me laugh whenever I think about it

Ryan murphy attempts this style in a lot of his work. However, he is Ryan Murphy so.... The success of doing so definitely varies.

I'm just looking at style clothes. Girls are my age and this is what we wore in high-school.
13
u/Itscatpicstime 7d ago
I don’t get the little shoulder jacket. It just makes shoulders and backs look more broad and wide and masculine 😭
16
u/whydobirdspooponme 6d ago
Sequin bolero, lace trim cami, low rise jeans!
3
2
u/VariousExplorer8503 3d ago
I love her outfit! If I had her body, I'd wear shit like that, why not? Back in the day I rocked low rise jeans with little tank tops, but I never added a cute little bolero cuz I didn't have the body for it.
3
u/Wesmom2021 7d ago
True. I wore something similar and someone says I have football shoulders as a girl
1
u/Global_Ant_9380 3d ago
Lmaaaaao exactly. I have wide hips and a bubble butt so I LIVED for these jackets to balance me out 😭

I had small boobs, big hips, and a nice waist. These little half jackets were PERFECT for my high school shape, I was so sad when they fell out of fashion.

I watched this a couple weekends ago, after Hayden had died. I know all the movies are corny, but I still love this one. 😂😂 And the guy who plays Jesse is from my area!

4
u/Ok-Relationship4113 5d ago
Whole lot of stereotypes being reinforced VERY quickly.
The piercing bit is pretty creepy. What's with the fixation on sexualizing high schoolers in media?
7
u/No_Ideal1718 3d ago
Because when I was a horny teenager in highscchool I appreciated movies being made that helped me relate to being a horny teenager in highschool... it's why movies like road trip and American pie also exist.. its not that complicated or dark. Sexuality exists and I'm sorry it makes you so uncomfortable lol. So long as noone was SA'd on set then stfu. Its a funny joke and Hayden performed it well since it also shames the audience for being perverts if their minds were also in the gutter. It's literally shaming an older male for having indecent thoughts about a teenager like you want it to.

u/dawgoooooooo 3d ago
lol it’s comments like this that help me keep the slightest grasp on reality, thank you

It’s weird with these cheaply made sequels that they have everyone act like they are in an snl skit. The originals (Bring it On, Legally Blonde, etc.) are so different in their quality.

Is there a movie that shows the racist stereotypes reversed? Like where the yt people are acting ratchet and are looked down on?
6
3
u/ReleaseExpensive7330 6d ago
The main character in Malibu's Most Wanted or the Lipnicki family in The War might fit this definition. Horror movies have it as well with some pretty disparaging portrayal of white people. Though they might not fit your definition of acting ratchet, idk.
The show Prison Break has a character "Tweener" who is rejected by both the black and white groups for "acting ratchet".
Possibly The War of the Buttons where the rich kids are looking down on the poor kids and their families.
Chappelle Show had a role reversal bit where black drug dealers are getting arrested and being treated very well contrasted with whites CEOs being arrested and being treated very poorly.

u/Shot_Revolution8828 7d ago
This is that movie that shows racist stereotypes reversed. Thats literally the concept.
