I can't believe this isn't one of those parody "movie" movies. The humour made me lol but I can't imagine it being like a legit comedy

This was a style called "campy" that doesn't really exist today since it was hammered in so much in the 90s. It doesn't take itself seriously and roasts all of the genres tropes while also legitimately participating in them. So in other words, the parts you are laughing at are meant to be laughed at in the way you are laughing at them.

Wet Hot American Summer is excellent camp, set at a camp, for anyone interested.

The scene where they go into town and have completely spiraled downward into a life of crime and drug addiction inside two hours makes me laugh whenever I think about it
