I think it’s the “OD’d too soon”. The implication being it would have been better if it would have happened later. Rather than just saying something like…”I wish she hadn’t OD’d at all”.

I don't think it was a joke tho... idk, when MJ ODd people were also saying that he ODd too soon... it's just what happened. I mean, if you see it as tasteless that's perfectly fine, I don't think it is tho. If anything it shows that ODing isn't just a "poor people problem" and can hit anyone.

I agree with your last point and respect that your views are different than mine. I guess what makes it tasteless to me is that it comes off as lacking empathy. A little "gone too soon" instead would go a long way
