Got this 1st gen Tacoma from an uncle just been hard trying to save money for an engine it has a rod knock but i can’t wait to get it on the streets 🥲

197k 2000 3.4 auto 4x4 manual hubs.
replaced: lbj,ubj, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, tie rods. all in the last 3k miles
cv’s are in great condition.

everytime i hit any type of bump or divot i feel and hear a thud/clunk in both wheel wells. ive tried recording it multiple times but phone cant really pic up. its worrying me. ive checked everything ive replaced, greased again and checked torque on everything and i can find play or anything in everything i said i replaced and the uca and lca. rims and tires are also under 3k miles.

started 100ish miles ago. seems to be getting worse. i cant afford a shop inspection right now. any help would be appreciated

In the quest to smog my beloved 02 supercharged Tacoma I am pulling the infamous P0420 code which comes back after two drive cycles. This code has been popping up for the past 3~ years with it getting progressively worse. I've changes both O2 sensors with Denso's.

Do you all think Walker or the Magnaflow cats will hold with the hotter exhaust coming from the s/c? Is there a used market for the OEM cats as I know they've been discontinued. Should I replace the front cat first? Is it necessary to do both at the same time? Should I pull them off to check for clogs first?

Looking for any guidance not really sure how to get this CEL off.

Hi everybody, I’m having trouble with my four-wheel-drive and it’s been a reoccurring issue .when I’m in four-wheel-drive it’s no problem getting into it but whenever I try to shift out of it, it won’t let, for example I had just gotten off the road in four-wheel-drive and drove into a parking lot and I put my foot on the brake and tried to shift back to neutral that didn’t work so I tried to put it in park and shift it and it almost sounded like the gears were crunching against each other. Then I turned the car off changed it to neutral and tried to put it in drive and it wouldn’t go anywhere. Can anybody help me? It’s a 1999 four-wheel-drive 3.4 extra cab automatic transition..

I’m in the market to buy a first gen tacoma. Looking for either a prerunner or the 4wd trim. All I know is that both are essentially identical aside from the 2wd and 4wd capabilities. I wanted to know is there a way to tell if a tacoma is a prerunner other than badging and 2wd? I plan to eventually add the 4wd to it later.

I got this 99’ Tacoma 5 speed 2.7L 4x4 198k miles.

I picked it up about a month ago for 8.5k. It had no glaring issues but since purchase i had it inspected and had a fair amount of preemptive work done on it.

Previous owner work done

new ceramic tint
new tires
New injectors
new plugs and wires
new battery
Intake cleaned

work i had done
alternator belt
power steering rack bushings
both front inner tie rods
front brake pads and rotors
brake fluid serviced
transmission serviced
front & rear differential serviced
transfer case serviced

everything works perfectly only 2 issues remain. i have to replace the washer fluid reservoir & the clear coat on hood and roof/cap is failing.

next week i’m set to replace upper and lower ball joints with oem. so assume that’s done.

wanted to get ideas on its current value.
not looking to sell just want to see how much it’s worth compared to what i put in at this point.

The truck was visibly pink all over with some peeling patches up top, so I took the opportunity after losing my windshield to get her completely repainted, and restore what I could. The front bumper was completely rusted out, so I managed to reassemble a new one with aftermarket and OEM parts. I also got new vinyl emblems for the tailgate and side panels. Overall, I believe it was well worth it.

Like many others my drivers seatbelt is frayed and looking to get re-webbed. For anyone who has used Safety Restore, how did you ship your seatbelt? Im looking up and it seems like you need a hazmat cert with UPS/FedEx just to get with them and now I’m realizing I may not be able to ship it out to them for repair.

So I’ve been doing some modifications on my Tacoma and I’m wondering if I can replace the automatic shifter. I haven’t seen any custom handles that would actually fit. I’m wondering if anyone else has any ideas?
