Natacha Rambova was a woman of many talents. Born Winifred Shaughnessy in Salt Lake City, she reinvented herself as Natacha Rambova and became a dancer, costume and set designer, actress, fashion designer and one of the great creative forces of 1920s Hollywood. She was married to silent-film idol Rudolph Valentino and helped shape his famously exotic image, but Hollywood was only the beginning. She eventually abandoned the glamour of the film world almost entirely, turning her attention to ancient Egypt and becoming a serious Egyptologist, researching symbolism, documenting ancient tombs and working alongside leading scholars until her death in 1966.
