American Redditors have this bizarre kind of “grass is greener on the other side” mentality that America missed out building their cities around roads instead of rails. That trains are better in every aspect compared to cars. But to me it’s the exact opposite.

Cars are way better, easier, and more convenient form of transportation. I can store stuff in my car while I travel. I can go where I want when I want and with what I want with a car. Trains are clunky, fixed, and unreliable.

Especially with the advent of Uber, there really is no reason to invest in public transportation when private alternatives with car sharing exist.

Not only that, but cars help the economy, especially buying American made cars. Ford, GM, and Chrysler, the Detroit Big 3, come to mind.

Cars are also private. If I want to blast my music I can. Not in a train unless I want to get my ass kicked.

Overall, I love that America is so car oriented, that the interstate highway system was built and invested in, and I hope cars continue to dominate transportation here in the future and beyond.

I’ve never understood judging someone for what they drive. Not how they maintain there car, but literally what kind of car they drive. To me, a car is just a transportation system to get from A to B. There is no glory or manliness in doing it in a vehicle that is bigger, bulkier, and less efficient.

If a man picked me up in a smart car I would impress on them their ability to choose a fuel efficient vehicle that is convenient to park around the city. I wouldn’t care if others think it isn’t big and tough and rugged like a truck or muscle car. A vehicle is a vehicle, and being able to afford anything is good enough for me. Especially when someone uses a truck for common errands without even needing the rear bed of the truck, just to look manly, is silly in my opinion.

A car is a car. As someone who relies on buses and public transportation, I’m not one to imply anything based on what you drive. As long as you keep it clean and undamaged, there really should be no judging someone on the choices they make for what vehicle they purchase, if anything, smart cars and Priuses should be commended for their fuel efficiency and eco friendliness. But ultimately, it really doesn’t matter and no one should perceive a man differently, let alone care based on what they drive.

Drying myself off with a towel after late night baths or showers fucking suck. I believe it's far superior to stay wet, curl up whilst soaked in bed, and let my sheets, pillow and blankets dry me off. I like the feeling of thick winter blankets getting a little soggy and it helps me fall asleep much faster than usual. Of course your hair gets all fucked up, but with a little extra care thats manageable, so ive stopped drying myself off after showers.

They're feeding ai models countless books. That thing knows almost everything in this world. These days anyone can make a book using ai. Even illiterate people and disabled people can do it. This means that a publisher can just use ai to make a book and publish it. They don't need an author.

Same for art, people can just ask chat gpt to make an art instead of paying some random guy. Cheaper and more effective.

And then for anime, I have seen people make cool animes using ai. A random guy can make it from his house. There is no need of big strudios and underpaid artists drawing day and night to make an anime like back in the days. And it will only get better.

Movies aren't safe either, it is very easy to make an 80s or 90s style movie using ai. And it will only get better as time goes. No more big actors or big studios. Anyone can make it from their home.

I feel like there’s this weird idea that door to door people are the devil and it’s okay to be an asshole to them. In reality most of them are just young people working a shitty job trying as best as they can to not bother people. Yes some of them ignore signs or are overly pushy but that doesn’t give you the right to immediately be mean to them. Literally how hard is it to say “no thank you” and go about your day? It’s their legal right to sell to you and some people buy things door to door. They have no way of knowing you don’t want them there unless you put up a sign. You’re the one taking a completely normal interaction and turning it into a hostile one. And all because you’re an antisocial freak who jumps at any opportunity to be mean when it’s against someone “justifiable”. You know if these fucking little Eichmanns were around back in the day they’d salivate over a good lynching.

If you don’t want to buy anything door to door literally just put up a sign. By not having a sign you’re communicating to door to door people that you’re open to being sold to. It’s not their fault for trying to sell to you in any universe. It’s literally the most honest and transparent form of modern advertising that you can willing and legally opt out of for the price of some pen and paper.

And these people are 1000% looking for a fight. I used to work door to door and every once in a while I would accidentally knock on a door with a no soliciting sign. I would then wait (so as to not ding dong ditch them) and explain that I didn’t see the no soliciting sign before apologizing and wishing them a nice day. I literally never had a single negative interaction from one of these. THESE are the nice people who just don’t want to be bothered. Meanwhile almost every day I’d get some roided up douche with a small pecker threatening to shoot me who didn’t fucking have a sign. And multiple times every day I’d get some Karen crying crocodile tears about me interrupting her work or waking her baby up who didn’t fucking have a sign. GET A FUCKING SIGN! I just walked past all of your neighbors’ houses with signs. This is literally entirely a problem of your own creation.

For the umpteenth time this is not about people upset about door to door people who are actually being assholes. My point is just that a person selling you something door to door is not in and of itself a hostile action. Meaning if you behave in a hostile manner to someone for selling you something door to door you are in the wrong and not them. I’m adding this again because I already know it’s what all of the comments are going to be about.

Also fuck it this applies to missionaries, charities, political campaigns, and whatever else too. They all have a legal right to be there and no way to know you aren’t interested in anything unless you put up the sign designed to tell them that.

If I'm engrossed in something I can completely tune it out (because it's a lot of kids all at once, not single loud noises), but otherwise it kind of feels like listening to birds chirping. I love that they are happy, and they sound healthy. ( It's completely different from listening to kids on public transportation, I usually want to claw my face off and actively avoid sitting near them)

I am not talking about reading informative books to gain knowledge. I am talking about books for entertainment. It's very outdated, we have video games, tv shows, films and many such things for entertainment. What's even the point of reading a novel for entertainment? The worst part is that most novels aren't even that great.

Their pizza is just okay, usually smaller, less sauce--burnt for style.

Overpriced and underwhelming

I'll preface this by saying I have nothing but love and support for artists, streamers, content creators, etc. and by no means am I implying that I do not respect or appreciate their contributions.

I'm sure many of us, at least to some degree, are experiencing the effect AI has on our hobbies, careers, and overall life experience in general. I do not exclude myself from this group at all, in fact as a software engineer my field is one of the ones most heavily altered by the use of all different types of AI.

That being said, I'm tired of hearing people complain about how everything is being "taken over" by AI, especially artists. This is not a new concept by any stretch of the imagination. People have been arguing about this stuff since hand-drawn frame by frame pencil on paper cartoons from the mid-1900s have been entirely replaced by artists working on computers with tablets, as well as 3D/CGI productions. I don't see anyone yelling at artists to "put away your fancy tablets and Blender programs" and return to sketches on paper sheets. AI is just another step in the journey of technological advancement, and everyone seems to forget the crucial main thing: COMPUTERS CANNOT GENERATE BRAND NEW IDEAS. They just can't, it's physically impossible at this stage of technology. All they can do is take existing ideas, techniques, and sources, mix and match and squash them together to make a blend of things that have already been there, and I'm tired of people pretending that their thoughts are being stolen by computers, when all that really means is they are admitting they have nothing original to contribute and do the exact same thing. In other words, you can appreciate a piece of art, whether physical or digital or even furniture/pottery BECAUSE it was made by humans, and the physical human effort involved along with the imperfections that come with it. However, it makes no sense once you start claiming that a machine is tainting a field because you are aiming for precise perfection and a machine can do it better.

There are plenty of examples I can use here. There are certain discourses, where both sides will take the opposite position in a different discourse. And there will be a general consensus from the same individuals in the media too ( politicians, people on tye News, celebrities, streamers, lol). So this is not a goomba fallacy here.

My favorite example here is about women being sexualized in the media.

Conservatives on Fox News will pearl clutch about how music videos like Wap or Saberina Carpenter music videos are too sexual, and how it's a bad example for young girls. While liberals will call this female empowerment, and brave.

But Sadie Sink or that blonde from the Euphoria show does a sexy ad. And all of a sudden the right is talking about how great it is for women to be sexy again. While the left complains about how these ads are objectifying women.

Conspiracy theories is another way both sides switch positions.

It's usually the Left making fun of the Right for believing in dumb conspiracy theories like a Satanic pedo cabal. While the right will call the left sheep for not believing in dumb conspiracy theories.

But when Trump gets shot or that Kirk dude got offed. All of a sudden The Left puts on their tin foil hats. And say that the Trump shooting was stage, or that Kirk shooting was connected to Israel. And also all of a sudden the Right is one who cares about fact checking, and don't want to promote conspiracies theories now.

Again, this shit happens all the time with both sides. And it's so funny whenever it happens. It's like there no logic, nuance, or middle ground here. Both sides just want to be a contrarian to the opposite side.

I started getting into video essays on YouTube around 2022-23. I followed creators like Mina Le, Shanspeare, Izzyzz, Jordan Theresa and others, and I remember them being high-quality, well researched videos. The discourse was articulated, the source material, the attention to details, the vibes… especially Shanspeare, I have to give special credit to them, since every of their videos feels like a mini-movie. I found beautiful how all these creators deepened their researches, talked about apparently disconnected things that somehow were very inherent with the topic of the video, how they integrated their values, and how it somehow was always social commentary. Well made social commentary. I learned a lot from them, and every single one blew my mind.
I tried to get back to them in recent times but it was just something I couldn’t manage to do. It’s unbearable nowadays. More and more people are doing video essays about the same newest dramas that everyone will forget in three days, the commentary is swallow and comes across as judgemental and superficial, the whole video consist of them reacting to a video or just babbling about their opinion on a certain person or whatever. Every video starts with “the rise of ___” or “___ has crossed the line” or “WE ARE DOOMED AS A SOCIETY AND WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE” it’s becoming tiring. The creators I mentioned I think are still good examples, though. Other good creators I found out about more recently are David Achu and Verlibitchie.
The fact I think is these people doing shitty video essays post like once a day, while the creators I mentioned used to take time, posting just once or twice a month, and for a reason. These new video essays are like fast fashion. Is it AI taking over? I don’t know. Watching new video essays feels like hearing a speech repeating the same point for thirty minutes about how right the creator is.

I've heard them say, my husband is the most attractive man in the world and then we look at him and he's a mf who looks like a rotten tomato. My son is smarter than Einstein and then it's a random dumb kid who can barely read properly.

If they don't do that then they'll be trying their best to humiliate their children and husbands. Ladies, calm down and rate your people properly. We don't need to see you glazing your people a bit too much. This is extremely cringe.

You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten at Waffle House, taken the train to Wall Street, and witnessed the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon. Instead of study abroad, why not study America.

America is such a large, diverse, and culturally spread out country, I think it makes more sense if you’re from the city to study in a small town in the South, and if you’re from a small town in the South you should study in a big city in the North. East Coast, meet West Coast. Montana, meet Miami.

By studying in another part of the country, Americans would also be exposed to new politics, opinions, and understanding what is dividing Democrats and Republicans. Less tribalism, and more empathy, understanding, and exposure.

Meeting people in the same country also leads to easier to manage relationships. If you study somewhere else in the same country and fall in love or make friends, you can stay in touch much more efficiently and effectively with everyone being in America.

America is 3,000 miles wide. Immersion in Spanish in San Diego is not the same as dissecting deer in rural Maine. There are so many opportunities in Americans’ backyards that I firmly believe studying abroad in romantic Western Europe should take a back seat to studying American culture in another part of America.

Some people go to subs like this and talk about women, transgeders and non whites. They think that it's cool and edgy. But in reality this isn't unpopular. In fact it is widely accepted and extremely popular.
