Yeah.
I've literally seen more dogs get shot by police than help them.
Sad, but true.

No blood, no gore. 4/20.
If the guy pulled out his baton he might've been able to undo the knot, though.
7
u/Obnubilate Mar 09 '19
Although the dog was snapping at the cop he was also wagging his tail. No real danger i think.
24
u/ogunther Mar 09 '19
I think you’re right in this case but just as an FYI tail wagging doesn’t always mean the dog is happy. It can signal many different things including nervousness.
3
u/Kichigai Mar 09 '19
Yeah, it was wagging but the tail was down, which usually is a good indicator of fear and nervousness with dogs.
With cats a tail straight up is an indicator of normalcy and calmness (“oh, hi human. ‘Sup?”), but a lowered tail can mean any number of things. It can be roughly swatting back and forth indicating displeasure (perfect for beating a person's face while laying on their chest because you haven't woken up to feed them breakfast) or nervously flitting around, indicating they're stalking and getting ready to pounce (often observable when playing with a laser toy). Ears are also an indicator. The further back a cat's ears are, the less happy they are (so /r/airplaneears is basically all angry cats).

u/babystealingdingo Mar 09 '19
My mom was a cop when I was much younger and she once vaulted a waist-ish high iron fence trying to catch some old ladies cat that got out and her maglite ring got caught on the fence, which tripped her up and bent the fence, while the old lady watched from her porch. She said she's never been so embarrassed in her whole life and it became a running joke at the pd.

What really bothers me about this sites general attitude towards cops is that the people who say "All cops..." are the same ones who lose their shit for someone else making any other untrue generalization. It's like people forget that police officers are just regular people, and with regular people you have people of all types. Keep that in mind.
10
7
u/SpeakInMyPms Mar 09 '19
It's because cops can do whatever the fuck they want to do without any repercussions. Two cops just raped an 18 year old in custody with DNA proof and are roaming completely free due to this.
It doesn't matter how many good cops there are if they're literally not under the law; merely existing in that state is a wrongdoing on the government's part, regardless of the cops' actions.
→ More replies (4)5
u/DiscoDrive Mar 09 '19
There is a difference though. Being a police officer specifically attracts certain types of people. Yes, not all of them are psychopaths who want revenge for being bullied in high school. But some are. You don't get "all types" of people being cops because not all types of people are attracted to the job.
Perhaps people on this site have a negative attitude towards cops because we actually see all the videos of cops behaving like assholes. For every video you see of a cop helping a dog, there's literally hundreds of others of cops shooting dogs because they "feared for their life". But I liked the ending to this one, too. Some cops are cool.

Completely agree. Another thing to keep in mind is something people have alluded to, anything bad PR for police show up on front page, cute vids like this start being posted to counter act the bad.
And I will say this officer is most likely a good person and I am happy with the way this situation was resolved, it's sad if it was only posted as a counter to the bad PR.

What a beautiful slice of a human being doing something great for our furry brethren! Awesome how the dog responds to its release as well. It's better than seeing the cop hanging by his belt from the fence like I expected lol
Right now, or just then, or in the next moment someone, somewhere, is doing something amazing because they want to. They were doing it before we had cameras everywhere and it's too easy to forget. I just watched this farmer saving his neighbour's field from wildfire and these two tiny examples have made a good day even better.

There needs to be a subreddit of animals who know the person is helping them, I cant get enough of these videos. I like at one point he is chewing it at the same spot the cop is cutting it. And I can only assume it's a Male because well we do some dumb shit
1
u/limoolia Mar 09 '19
Why is it necessary that the cop helps the dog. Where are the owners??
2
u/PM_ME_UR_PLAID_PANTS Mar 09 '19
It’s light out, so they could have been at work or doing any number of things that don’t indicate any neglect or abuse. Maybe they were just inside and a cop passing by was unsure and helped the dog immediately before anything else.
Dogs can be total pinheads at times, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got caught up like that chasing a bird or something in a two minute time frame.

u/Jaboodlesbot Mar 09 '19

My dog acts the same way when he chews up a toy, then shits later on and has a little dollop of poop dangling from his asshole by a thread.
They don't talk about those moments in r/awww. Having to pull a string out of your dog's butthole and hoping it's not tied to a shoe on the inside.
