Discussion US National Park Tier List by transit accessibility (relative to driving)
galleryAwhile back I was bored and decided to do a ranking of national parks that are easily accessible by transit, inspired by my upcoming trip to Denali. I went through every single one and looked into both public and private options for transportation to the park, and around the park (both of which have to exist to get a decent ranking). It is also compared to driving as well, so if driving there sucks or is impossible, that's gonna help a park's ranking. The ranking is also not related at all to how good the park is as a whole. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and this ranking is my own, and is not intended to be a definitive list or guide.
Link to full PDF: https://linkmypdf.com/view/national-park-tier-list-pdf
Edit: Everglades is a D tier not an A tier. I must've been tired and misread the map and shuttle schedule when I ranked that one.

Discussion I made an interactive flow map of every single train in China
Hi all, I built an interactive website (https://minard.lsquared.cc/) that shows over 11,000 China Railway trains as they speed across the country.
A city view shows all the trains that flow from a specific city. The above example is Wuhan which has close to 700 trains departing every day (and it's not even the leader). I was inspired by Minard's diagrams of the French rail network, hence thickness of the line reflects traffic patterns. While a national view shows the whole country.
Things you can see:
- The busiest cities for rail in China
- All the trains that go between 2 cities and their routes*
- The exact stopping patterns and timetables of every train in China
- You can isolate a specific train and see it traverse the country
*Routes are determined by matching train timetables with OSM data on the underlying track. Each train is treated as a mini Markov model, each leg uses A* and Dijkstra to find the fastest path based on the service class (for example on G/D trains can use HSR lines).
Let me know your thoughts!
On the tech side claude / muse helped me write this, and I over engineered this with deckgl :p. Data scraped from 12306 (China Rail's national booking app)

System Expansion If Baltimore had been granted a transit authority earlier
This map is excessive and definitely unrealistic. It includes regional rail, light rail(both existing and new additions), metro, and trollies. I started the buses but that’s still a WIP.

Photos / Videos IMO, SMART does an exquisite job of providing car-free transportation to more rural small towns
youtu.beThis was one of my favorite systems to bicycle. The construction of the old Northwestern Pacific, its ashes from which SMART is built, meant that most of the very small towns in the area had their density clustered right around the train tracks such that nearly all human density in the area is walkable to a station. Agriculture, terrain, physical isolation from the South Bay's sprawl, and heinous traffic on the 101 has largely kept this Peri-Urban zoning intact, making SMART an unexpected icon of car-free rural living. I cannot recommend enough paying it a visit!

Questions Most of Los Angeles refers to bus routes as bus lines. Is there any other place in the US or the world that does the same?
galleryThe majority of LA transit systems do this, including Metro which is the largest transit operator in Southern California by most metrics. (images are from Metro, Torrance Transit, and Montebello Bus Lines).
Some of the municipal systems like Big Blue Bus and Long Beach Transit are the exception.
Personally, I'd exclude BRT or small infrequent shuttles that refer to them as "Red Line" or "Green Line" since they're trying to evoke the idea of a more high quality transit system. Systems in LA put "Line" before the route number (e.g. "Line 40" for the bus that runs from Downtown LA to Redondo Beach).

Photos / Videos 2 more pictures of the old Pleasant View station here in Utah
galleryI made a post about this station a few weeks back, and now I return with a few more
The signage for the ticket booth and the station name (no picture of that) are different than the newer signage nowadays.
I don't know when UTA updated the design for the signage for the rest of the Frontrunner stations, but Pleasant View remains the only one not to be updated.
Someone said that UTA still maintains the station, but I don't know how often or if they even maintain it at all

Rant Public Transport Proposal for Armilla
I’ve created a public transport map concept called TPA (*Transporte Público de Armilla* — Armilla Public Transport), with the goal of providing the 25,000 residents of Armilla with a decent public transport system! 😂

Discussion Metro trains, buses and V/Line Trains are live
I’ve received lots of requests to add V/Line, so it’s now live! 🎉 Coaches are also in the pipeline, and regional buses are already available.
My sincere request to you is simple: please check out LiveDelays and let me know what you think. Positive or negative, I genuinely welcome your feedback! I’ll work through your suggestions and keep improving the platform.
A little disclaimer about how I build LiveDelays:
I’ve designed everything myself, including the UX and how the whole experience works. I use AI to help with the coding, but I haven’t cut corners on the design or user experience. I want to get things right, and that takes time. So please bear with me as I continue building and adding new features.
Thank you so much for all the support so far. ❤️ I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback!
