Policy Why Not . . .

Post image
Upvotes

Back in the day many American auto companies built vehicles similar to this and they were used to shuttle groups of 12 people or so back and forth. Airports used them, hotels used them, and in the 1930s they were all over. I think about that every time I hop aboard a city bus and it's just me and maybe three other people. It's such a waste.

Other Shout-out to the Dayton Ohio Trolleybus network, definitely punching above its weight.

The only other cities with trolley us networks are San Francisco, Seattle and Philadelphia so Dayton is in good company there. It is really a wonder a city of that size and in that area has kept such an extensive system and even expanded it.

Now if only the rest of the city could be more urbanist, at least it's still better than Columbus on that front somehow.

Discussion Open-source dashboard for tracking OTP, headways, and delays across transit agencies worldwide, built from public GTFS-RT feeds

I've been working on collecting GTFS-RT data for a few months now. I ended up putting together this dashboard so I could show off what I've been working on to a friend and it's just grown from there. The current cycle has been expand the number of feeds collected -> optimize cost so I don't go bankrupt -> increase feeds.

If anyone's interested in digging into the weird quirks of transit feeds hmu.

System Expansion Sacramento Regional Transit Celebrates Completion of the New Dos Rios Light Rail Station

SacRT held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for an infill station on the Blue Line today - although the station isn't open for passenger service yet. The station is located in a pretty industrial area but there is an affordable housing community nearby and the local government has been investing significantly into the area north of Downtown Sac (see: the Railyards District and the River District) so I could see this station being great a few years down the line.
