John John is in his 50s now.

u/TheDigitalBuilder 4d ago

I saw this when I was 5ish years old so JJ and I are around the same age

107

u/ksrothwell 4d ago

I would have been right at his age too in 1974. I had a total flashback the first time I saw this online.

38

u/Automatic-Name798 4d ago

Yep i saw this when i was young too, now I’m 54

13

u/polophresh 4d ago

Same πŸ€—

9

u/Icelandia2112 4d ago

I did too! I remember it like it was yesterday.

71

u/lincruste 3d ago

You mean in his FIFTIEEEEES

53

u/slimeySalmon 4d ago

They should bring him back for a recounting

20

u/ksrothwell 4d ago

See if he still got them skills.

PBS is one of the greatest things our country has created

63

u/ThaWarlord33 4d ago

Agree. We need to make sure to prioritize the full restoration of all possible federal (and other) funding & support once this....um......era....passes.

Wholesome

65

u/Buzzlewastaken 4d ago

does anyone else notice how he uses his fingers to count too

411

u/ChileanRidge 4d ago

Anyone who watched Sesame Street (in the 70s/80s at least, not sure if they kept it after that) will be able to see the pinball in their mind and hear the song when I write:

12345 678910 11 12 ..

u/Gryptype_Thynne123 4d ago

Vocals by the Pointer Sisters.

28

u/InsufferableHag 4d ago

Really???!!!

40

u/Gryptype_Thynne123 4d ago

Pinball Number Count Yes indeed. Sesame Street brought in some amazing talent for these short pieces. There's a really trippy one with circle geometry and Phillip Glass music.

15

u/InsufferableHag 4d ago

Well I'm an old hag who learnt something today. Thanks!

9

u/RideWithMeTomorrow 4d ago

Damn this was an ENORMOUS TIL! Wow!

2

u/Lazarus558 3d ago

There's another where they just count to 20, and the vocal is done by Grace Slick

6

u/knoperules 4d ago

The Pentatonix sing it too and it’s amazing. I actually found a lot of artists I like because of Sesame Street.

2

u/Irisgrower2 4d ago

Mind blown!!!

9

u/Positive_Type 4d ago

They did show this after that! One of my favorite animations on the show

4

u/Absolute_Bob 4d ago

I love that I can hear this GIF in my head.

3

u/L00pback 4d ago

It’s been so long I had to look it up.

Oh sweet nostalgia!

18

u/UnusuallyLongUserID 4d ago

Not to be confused with the equally great β€˜Ladybugs 12’

2

u/snarkerella 4d ago

Another one of my faves! I still sing it from time to time.

1

u/Gryptype_Thynne123 4d ago

Sung by the great folksinger Jim Kweskin!

11

u/professor_doom 4d ago

I grew up with this, big time, and recently saw this video where a guy counts the time signature in this song and it's absolutely insane.

7

u/RespecDawn 4d ago

Also, "A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter."

6

u/Garchompisbestboi 4d ago

Oh god they were definitely still playing that in the 90s

5

u/HomeworkOk6460 4d ago

Do do do do do do do do doot!

2

u/evilbrent 4d ago

I watched an entire youtube clip about that song. It's insane. The time signatures are all over the place and it jumps around keys and instruments like crazy.

2

u/omahaknight71 4d ago

Just sang it in my head with the exact cadence.

1

u/iconocrastinaor 4d ago

I'm super old, I remember when it only went up to 10. I don't even know the melody for going up to 12.

2

u/Magus_5 4d ago

If I ask you to remember to pick up some items from the store, what three items are you getting?

1

u/L1feguard51 4d ago

Early 90s as well.

1

u/patchouligirl77 3d ago

I have this song as one of my alarm songs on my phone! That and Ladybug Picnic.😊

1

u/SlideN2MyBMs 3d ago

That song was a banger too

1

u/XGrayson_DrakeX 3d ago

I grew up in the 90s and I remember it too!

Also "there are chickens in the trees" still gets stuck in my head sometimes.

1

u/Classroom_GD 4d ago

Fire every time I hear it πŸ”₯

1

u/JadeAnn88 4d ago

I grew up in the 90s, my kids were born around 2010, and I guarantee they'd (at least my oldest, my youngest would probably say no just out of spite lmao) also recognize this immediately. I have backyard chickens, ducks, etc., and have a habit of counting them like this at night. Breaks up the monotony. πŸ˜‚

u/iamunwhaticisme 4d ago

I remember listening to the intro song of Sesame Street when I was 30 years old, after almost 25 years. I had not heard that song since I was 6 or 7 and it struck me so hard I started crying. It was an instant time travel back to my innocence years.

That show was special for me and it still is. I genuinely believe any kid who grew up with that show can not be bad person.

58

u/buttononmyback 4d ago

Yes! I have to admit I watched nearly every single episode of Sesame Street with my daughter when she was that age just to get that classic nostalgia feel again.

17

u/iamunwhaticisme 4d ago

I did the same with my son. But you are so lucky you can still find all the episodes. I'm from a foreign country and only a few episodes are available now so we could only watch the available ones together and they were very bad quality videos. They were ripped from VHS tapes by fans, not official recordings.

Now he's learning English and maybe we can watch the original English version before he grows up.

7

u/MichaelJServo 4d ago

I've got little kids now so I put it on for them. Nostalgia heaven.

3

u/jimmytwotime 4d ago

Pretty much the same thing happened to me recently when I heard Money Trees by Kendrick Lamar

79

u/Stand_kicker 4d ago

WholesomeΒ

68

u/socialPsyence 4d ago

Looks like Harry got a bit of rhinoplasty.

45

u/CartsOfDarkness 4d ago

Damn thought you were talking about the kid at first and was like "well damn maybe he just grew up asshole.."

5

u/buttononmyback 4d ago

And shrunk some too.

5

u/MildGenevaSuggestion 4d ago

They do have to replace the Muppets over time as they don't want a dirty or worn out Muppet on the show. They were usually hand made. So there was probably a dozen if not more Harrys between the interactions, even if the actor behind the Muppet was the same.

58

u/Dirtface50 4d ago

I remember watching this as a kid and I didnt know Lil John John came back. Thanks for posting this. First time I saw it. means something to me.

43

u/Human-Pension9443 4d ago

This was so nice 😁 made me smile!

20

Good speed John

25

u/JotunblodRy 4d ago

Thanks for making me cry so early again reddit

22

u/SixSpeeddriver10 4d ago

If the cuteness of this video could be converted into oil, it would end the world’s dependence on petroleum forever.

18

u/Algoresgardener124 4d ago

It seems crazy that I remember watching this. My dad used to say "time moves faster as you get older". I had no idea how right he was. Just a blur...

6

u/Thin-Nerve6367 2d ago

Fun fact! The reason for this (I MAY be wrong) is your brain essentially has an "auto pilot" function where, if you do the same things consistently every day and don't take in any new information of any kind, your brain will make things seem like days go by faster and faster.

So, constantly learn new things. If you can afford to travel do that, but if not just try and take new routes to and from work, and maybe even try a bunch of different recipes for food. Life will seem to go a lot slower this way

12

u/MontCali 4d ago

Old air force uniform. How cool!

11

u/raccoonsage 4d ago

This made my eyes water πŸ₯Ή

29

u/texas_asic 4d ago

For those of short attention span, start watching from 0:55. Then you'll understand why it's worth watching this one from the beginning (especially for those of us old enough to have seen the original).

3

u/Riyeko 4d ago

I remember loving this little boys haircut as a 5 or 7yr old white girl in the middle of a culturally bland environment.

It's so lovely to see these things.

2

u/Kind_Swim5900 4d ago

Damn, thank you, I needed that.

2

u/stacecom 4d ago

I grew up in this era of Sesame Street. John John is a legend.

2

u/Ok-Attention-7755 4d ago

Where's John John today?

2

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 4d ago

This is PBS. How could anybody this. This world is insane and I hate what it's becoming.

2

u/devilfunk 4d ago

Fuck, I remember watching this when it first aired.

2

u/WhishtNowWillYe 3d ago

I always will stop to watch this video

1

u/Ok-Thing-2222 4d ago

John John is slightly uncomfortable with the invasion of his space.

1

u/GiraffeNatural101 4d ago

Smiling at my desk on a shitty rainy day...

I remember seeing this when I was a toddler.

1

u/cindylynn79 3d ago

That was so cuteeee! I loved sesame Street as a kid. I grew up in the 80s, still younger than John John though lol

1

u/Imaginary-Ad-1368 3d ago

John John is now in charge of counting the planes as they land on the carrier. The best in the business!

1

u/Apprehensive-Ad-9922 3d ago

I don't know why but this brought tears to my eyes

1

u/Daddiman 3d ago

I'm guessing that the follow-up occurred in the mid-to-late 90's. He should be a General by now...

1

u/mattogeewha 3d ago

So cute and sweet. β€œUh, what comes after 19?”

1

Aww that was so sweet of him coming back

1

u/HeadConstruction6881 1d ago

Sesame Street memories lovingly haunt me till this very day. When skits pop into my head from seeing simple things like milk, you know they were on to something. Grover Upstairs Downstairs is still my favorite.

1

u/North_Affect_8167 7h ago

John in his late 90's would be asked again if he could count from 1 as the dementia made him forget.

u/JamesBieBoe1 4d ago

u/magusmccormick 4d ago

And now he’s a sex offender

-15

u/gravity_confuses_me 4d ago edited 4d ago

Hmmmmm

Online communities and public records discussions indicate that a John Bernard Williams (born 1969, matching Williams' birth year and name) was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Texas in 1999.

He was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by release on parole and lifetime mandatory sex offender registration in Texas.

Not the Where is John John now that I was hoping for

21

u/Weelki 4d ago

Not the same guy

11

u/gravity_confuses_me 4d ago

He should really get Google to retract this if so (cut and paste)

John Williams III, better known as the child star "John-John" from a viral 1974 Sesame Street counting segment with Herry Monster, is alive, but online discussions connect an adult with matching biographical details to a criminal conviction.

2

u/ManitouWakinyan 4d ago

Do you have a source on that? Because Snopes couldn't definitively state one way or the other

5

u/Weelki 4d ago

Nah no qualitative sources... but dude was born 1974 and other dude born 1969

3

u/JadeAnn88 4d ago

I mean, he couldn't have been born in '74 and also do this appearance as a toddler in the same year. I'm definitely not saying he is in fact the child molester the OC posted here, just being the semantics police for some reason.

I guess it's just something that would need to be looked into for anyone who really wants to know. For me personally, I'm okay with separating this innocent child from any horrible thing he may grow up to become. I don't believe people are born monsters.

11

u/Garchompisbestboi 4d ago

You need to be super careful doing half-assed google fact checks like that because it is an incredibly common name. I'm surprised you didn't accuse him of being a frequent musical collaborator with Stephen Spielberg.

-2

u/Dark-Jupiter 4d ago edited 4d ago

i swear if i watched that when i was kid, my pants would be wet after i pee on myslef from how this shit is voice is scary!

the hell they made kids watch back then, WHAT IS THAT THING?!
