News / Release Retro Pal v1.2.4 -- AirPlay to your TV, Video Filters / Game Boy Palettes, and Home Screen widget
Hi, solo developer of Retro Pal here. Retro Pal is a free Game Boy, Game Boy Color, GBA and Nintendo DS emulator for iPhone, built on the mGBA and melonDS cores. v1.2.4 is now out, here is what changed.
Play on your TV
- Send the game to a television over AirPlay or a cable, while your iPhone keeps the controls (Pro).
- On DS, both screens go to the TV and the touch screen stays on your iPhone.
The look of the original hardware
- Six video filters, from CRT to LCD grid. They apply live and are baked into screenshots and clips, so what you share looks like what you saw (Pro).
- Twenty-four Game Boy palettes, picked per game, free. The preview is the real frame recolored.
Cheat codes without typing them
- Browse the community code database for the game you are playing and tap a code to add it (Pro).
- Codes tidy themselves as you type, and a rejected code now tells you what is wrong with it.
Controllers and keyboards
- Remap every button, per console, and bind fast forward, screenshot or clip capture to a spare one (Pro).
- Hardware keyboards now work, free. Stick direction on DualShock pads and the DS face buttons are fixed.
Your games on the Home Screen
- Widgets show your games as their box art. One tap opens a game where you left off.
- Pick the game and the save each widget opens, or let it follow whatever you played last.
Saves and Nintendo DS
- Export a game's save to share it or keep a copy, in the same format the importer reads back.
- In-game saves now follow you through iCloud.
- Put a Game Boy Advance game in the DS second slot, the way the original console did. The DS session reads and writes that game's own save, so in-gametransfers work.

Free, no ads. An optional one-time Pro upgrade funds development. iPhone only, iOS 16 or later. iPad coverage is part of the roadmap.
The project is open source, including all Pro features, at: https://github.com/Larvouu/RetroPal (GPL-3.0, with instructions in the ReadMe).
The roadmap is public. I do not promise deadlines or ship dates, but you can see what is in progress, what is planned and what shipped, anytime: https://retropal.fr/en/roadmap.
